And then what? $800k per annum after that?! Very expensive stuff and the cats salary structure would implode.

I'm sure Ken Wood would say a minimum of $1.2m a year for the extension. That's still a 20% deduction - any more would be clearly a shonk to get around free agent rules.

no not all, danger is an excellent get
the afl has stuffed the whole fa system - everything they meddle with turns to crap
it becomes too emotional and vengeful

the afl need to decide what what they they want to achieve with the fa system
I was under the impression that talks were underway and all 3 parties seem to be working together on an outcome.... You get your prize, Danger gets to go back home and we will finish with the last prize. I honestly don't understand the issue here.

They also got warned by the AFL on doing such a deal, If they pay 1.5 for 2 then next deal they drop the $$'s massively they will cop sanctions.
i agree we should, but the rules only penalise you if the afl can prove that this was the intention when taking on the 2 year deal
no proof no sanctions

ill come back to the betts situation - which trade picks did you give up for him

Such a stupid threat.

So effectively a club could draft him for 1 year and turn him into more the following year when it's their turn to trade him plus they get him for a year.

Besides there is no way Danger will want to go through this again.
Won't this undo his free agency status? At least if he stayed at the crows two years he'd be an unrestricted fA. Also, I thought you had to nominate minimum two years to enter the draft.

Sounds like BS.

Article is here: http://bit.ly/1OBTpqk

Apparently, you can't ask for a 1 year contract if you nominate for the draft. Minimum is 2. Is that right? That would pretty much mean the article is rubbish.

We offered way more than any other club was willing to pay. We paid a premium for him and therefore didn't have to give up picks.

Are you a 100% sure Geelong will make an offer that no one in the AFL would match?

Trying to link the Betts move to the Dangerfield one is not an intelligent move.

You are showing how the RFA system does work by referring to it.

Carlton didn't want him for the $$$ AFC would pay. That is how it is supposed to work.

If you want Dangerfield for more than AFC can pay, you get him for nothing.

If Geelong want to keep it's structure of not paying top dollar to keep it's group together and give it an advantage ... then you should expect to trade.

You see, you can't eat your cake and have it too. Either you pay overs - and sacrifice some $, or you pay less and sacrifice some players or picks.

we only need to make an offer that the crows dont match
we have heaps of cap space
