Geelong and Adelaide have to get together and keep 14 in the equation. I think both clubs are smart enough with 80 odd players pick 9 and 13, 27 and 30 plus next years draft picks to work something out which which both clubs are happy with.
There has to be players that both clubs need from each other to work it out. Adelaide and geelong need to take advantage of the fact 14 is right there if they can be mature about things.

If you want a player as a RFA, you need to offer a higher salary (that won't be matched), or trade for it.

You can measure players in salary (existing player) or trade picks (young or future player).

Adelaide doesn't have to keep anyone happy when it matches. We match, we ask Geelong for 2 first and Murdoch. Geelong want Paddy, and so sign off on the deal.

Some people on this board are arguing for that. I am not one of them. I think Danger is worth your first rounders and a quality player, but I think we'll have to accept two first rounders.

Have always thought 2 first rounders would do it. It's not immediately equivalent to a Dangerfield, but it extracts enough pain from Geelong-we-shouldn't have-to-pay-anything, to be satisfying, and while we lose a great player, who knows what gem we might unearth?

Why? It's up to Geelong to come up with an amicable trade. Anything involving the Crows not matching, getting pick 14 and then some unbalanced way of us getting pick 9 will be deemed illegal by the AFL. In simple terms cutting out all the other stuff, you are suggesting AFC take the compo, at this stage pick 14.

Then you say AFC give GFC that compo for pick 9.

How about, we don't match and take pick 9 anyway as part of a deal for Danger? AFC finishes out the same, give or take, and GFC have to pay more, weakening them for the future. Win in my eyes.

But it's not about Adelaide giving it back, it's not yours the second you match. It's the AFLs. The net result for Adelaide and geelong will be better if 14 is kept in play.

We know its better for 14 in play, but a secondary deal can only even out, meaning no value for Adelaide or maybe just the smallest bit of favor but nothing worth considering. If we can demad two first rounders give up nutta that is the action required

Why? It's up to Geelong to come up with an amicable trade. Anything involving the Crows not matching, getting pick 14 and then some unbalanced way of us getting pick 9 will be deemed illegal by the AFL. Just for those who care, this is a good article that I found on the AFL/restrain of trade matter.

The immediate question at hand is whether the draft and cap are together in breach of the Trade Practices Act 1974.

The court must examine each of the following:

•Is there a legitimate interest in need of protection?
•Is the restrain reasonable in that circumstance?
•Is the restraint against the public interest.

The AFLs legitimate interests are likely to be:

•Onfield evenness in the AFL competition
•The popularity of the AFL as a spectator sport
•The promotion of Australian Football as a sport
•Funding

Bitterness? It's called a fair trade. Danger is worth Pick 1 and pick 15 on the open market. 2 first rounders from Geelong is half that. It's not ideal for us but it's the minimum Geelong should be willing to give up. Your deal posted is bad for Adelaide because we wish to trade for other players, we're not the team gaining a superstar player, we shouldn't be expected to give up anything other than the player. Also, no where have Geelong said they aren't willing to give up two first rounders.

That might be a fair call. I guess I ranked them in order of what they have done in their respective careers so far. Pendlebury is probably inferior to those guys now but bloody hell he is an amazing player at his best. Such poise and class with the ball. He is easily the best ball user out of those 4 players
