It seems like the clubs are closer than the fans when it comes to hashing out a deal. My best guess is that it will get done for Geelong's 1st round pick + 2nd round pick. In return I think we'll get Danger and maybe a nominal pick. Right now they are probably haggling over pick 68 vs 86. Don't think it's anywhere near what most are saying on either side.

I think the bolded is true. I don't think the rest is.

This has been reported in the media, but it's the first I've heard of us sending over a later pick. If the deal is on the table that Geelong get Dangerfield for 1 First round pick and 1 Second round pick and then Geelong has managed to convince Adelaide that this is somehow not a fair enough deal and the AFC need to throw in a pick 68, I would be very disgusted with my club and frankly disgusted with Geelong's sense of entitlement.

A fair trade, considering all the circumstances, is 2 first round picks. Of course, Adelaide ALWAYS get the rough end of the stick so this deal could never happen and Geelong have managed to squeeze Adelaide into accepting 1 1st and 2nd rounder instead of 2 1st rounders. Now you're also talking about Adelaide sending one of it's later picks on top of this crappy trade? Damn, Geelong have NO intention to get a deal done that is considered fair in any form of reality. Danger wanted a fair deal for both clubs, I guess he doesn't get his wish. Well done, you guys have managed to royally bend us over if this is what eventuates. You get Danger and you get to shaft Adelaide in the process.

Reading between the lines with what murmurs that have been coming out, I reckon we will be getting:

- Pick 9
- 2016 2nd Rounder
- a player

The Australian are suggesting we are giving up our 2016 2nd Rounder for Hampton so I'm thinking we will want to replace that. Pick 9 gives us a top 10 pick and at the same time ensures Geelong have to cough something decent up rather than getting Padraig for free. The player is probably the sticking point at the moment for 2 reasons. 1/ agreeing on a player that Geelong are prepared to give up 2/ getting the player to agree to move

We won't get their 2016 2nd rounder. They need to trade their 2016 1st rounder to Carlton for Henderson, so they can't trade any other 2016 picks. If it's a 1st and 2nd for Dangerfield then they'll both be this year.

I still can't believe they're going to give a first rounder for Henderson.

You think it's going to be two 1st round picks?

The vast majority of people think it'll be a 1st, a 2nd and a player (probably Gore, GHS [blecch] or Murdoch).

Many are saying next year's second; I'm happy for this year's, so we can do some deals.

LOL the Geelong board, it's the "unwritten intent" part of RFA that we don't get which makes all our trade logic ridiculous. It's "the vibe" folks !

And they're serious too. This is cutting them deep, the absolute horror of it all. Lowball RFA offer for franchise player matched by club prepared to risk pick 14. OMG, but after 3 years of FA, it's never happened, you've broken the spirit of FA and will ruin it for everyone else.

Yeah the rules for future picks still aren't bedded down in my brain - I keep needing to look them up!

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said the following rules would govern trading of future draft picks:

- Clubs can trade one year in the future only.

- Clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period. If they don't, they will face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks.

- If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft. But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.

So a club can trade any/all of it's picks this year + EITHER it's 1st round next year OR any/all of it's other picks next year ... as long as they make sure they have at least 2 first round picks every 4 years.

So giving up next year's first round pick is a real bitch for Geelong. I wonder if they can generate another pick through trade to satisfy Carlton?

I can see why they might want a late pick from us - Geelong will need to fill it's list from the back-end of the draft, and I guess anything that is an upgrade in pick position will help.

Quick request.

If an opposition poster hasn't posted in here in a while, they likely have a suspension or thread ban, please try not to tag them in posts.

Yes, everyone, if I'd been banned from a thread and was being tagged into it I would find that infuriating.

I'm hypothesising (may as well, everyone else has!) that the Jarrad Jansen (from Geelong to Brisbane) deal may be worked into the Dangerfield deal to land us a higher 2nd round pick.

Brisbane gives pick 21 to Cats
Cats give Jansen and pick 28 to Brisbane

Crows give Dangerfield to Cats
Cats give picks 9 and 21 to Crows (with a fringe player)*

I'm firmly in the camp of getting 2 1st round picks, but pick 21 is only a couple of picks outside round 1. The above, of course, will not work if Jansen's worth is not deemed worth a drop in 7 draft places for Brisbane.

*This trade would be almost a carbon copy of the Beams trade from last year (the last comparable player trade to Dangerfield's).

5 + 25 (total of 30) + a fringe player (Crisp - a speculative player at the time)
9 + 21 (total of 30) + a fringe player

When viewed within the context of when it was said, it in no way implies that my unwavering stance has been that Adelaide would not match.

Geez mate, what was the context. "Everything I type for the rest of this post is parodying other Cat's posters and is deadset wrong and a statement that only a juvenile would make". Was that the context? You've been a pretty good contributor, but best to admit emotion got the better of you at that moment.

I just see that whole 'take the compensation pick then get a lopsided trade with geelong' thing as a fast track to draft tampering/manipulation/something that will get us (and only us) in trouble with the AFL.

It isnt within the spirit of the free agency compensation and I dont like it. will be disappointed if the club go down that road.

And if the compo pick is being traded it means that we need to not match first meaning that we're risking a hell of a lot.

'Oh sorry, you thought we were serious when we said we'd do that deal? Haha oh... Well sorry you're stuck with pick 14!'

There's absolutely no scenario where Geelong will do a trade that sees them ending up with less draft picks. Lesser quality picks perhaps. Nine list spots to fill, their priority will be getting lots of picks around 30-50 rather than spending two picks (or a player and a pick) to move up the order.

I have asked SC not to persist with this discussion, I would also appreciate that we do not keep fuelling the discussion

Lets focus more on the trade outcome and less on past posts

I think many will be surprised by the way Adelaide plays next season without Danger. The team looks to him too much, and his disposal is pretty average. Look at Hawthorn and their disposal efficiency compared to ours. We need to recruit players with decent disposal, losing a "one man army" wont hurt us as much as many seem to think
