fu** me some of you have short memories.

Danger's finals record at Geelong (possessions and score):
2016:
35, 0.1
39, 1.0

2017:
31, 1.1
26, 4.3
24, 2.3

2018:
25, 0.1

2019:
32, 1.0
18, 0.0
27, 1.0

2020 (short games)
22, 1.0
19, 4.0
17, 0.0
12, 1.1

I should add, it was a sh*t night for every single forward on the ground bar Dustin Martin. What do you want him to do, walk on water?

He is also forced to play out of position by the fact that we don't have a good second marking tall.

Sorry that's nonsense. He's been talked up as a threat up forward for years. And ever since the game against Hawthorn has been put there quite deliberately many, many times. It's a complete cop out to turn around now and say "well he was forced to play there". No he wasn't. He and Scott have both bought into the mythology that he's a great forward. He isn't. He can be damaging when isolated against midfielders but doesn't beat good defenders.

How many good finals do you think he's played for Geelong?

Not suggesting he hasn't played poorly in finals but he certainly has not been one of the most consistent performers either.
The fact he is our highest paid player and regarded as our best player on top of it, he drifts in and out of games a little too frequently.
He was poor in 2018.
Was barely noticeable in 2019 and was quite brilliant in one final this season.
In fact, his best performances have now come when he first came to the club.

And do you really want to get me started about no second marking tall?
We had a guy on sidelines who managed over 1.5 contested marks per game and could have done a lot better than Gary Rohan who is talked up to be some kind of wonderful marking forward with blistering speed and such an important cog in our system.

I'd have the 2017 Prelim Final, 2019 Prelim final, and this year's Qualifying final as games where our opinions differ.
2017 Prelim? Starts up forward, still manages 25-odd touches and two goals in a side that gets comprehensively thumped, and it's not a "good" game? I know stats don't tell everything, but you are a very hard marker.

Hard to argue that he hasn’t been disappointing in many big finals. Not all, but many. I’d say most. His demeanour seems to change from my observations. Seems to be perhaps over aroused and its affecting his performance.

I thought last night after he kicked his goal that would be the settler he needed but it unfortunately wasn’t. To go pretty much unsighted, or to be fumbling, caught with the footy (as he was in the final against Port) makes you question his mental strength to play in big time matches. He has the ability but there is a definite drop off from the H&A games. Why?

Part of the issue as I see it is an apparent unpreparedness to have a defensive side to his game. If he doesn’t get the ball he’s an absolute liability as a mid. He needs to get better or be more consistent in this aspect of his game. He’s able to do it. I’ve seen it. Against WC last year he did. Is is a misguided self belief that he needs to win the game off his own boot? I don’t know but it seems that way.

Great point, but to be fair this is not limited just to Dangerfield. His style is more attacking so he isn't necessarily focused on the defensive side, which isn't a terrible thing in itself. The problem is Selwood has slowed down, Ablett got too slow so couldn't play in midfield, and other midfielders are up and down with their defensive work. When they're down, we look wide open when the opposition get the ball. Too much left to too few.

Personally I hope they readjust and let him focus on the midfield and stop expecting him to be a star forward as well. Keep it simple.

Sure, but I don't think you cna play these days as a mid in a purely attacking frame of mind. You are absolutely correct though that Selwood has slowed down. Considerably I reckon. He's struggling for impact. He now reminds me of Joel Corey in his last days. Fumbling more than normal and making uncharacteristic basic decision making errors. I reckon he's only got one year left.

I'm not sure I agree with you about him playing as a mid. But I do agree that he either plays one role or the other.
