I would love for him to show that midfield ability in the AFL, but I'm sceptical whether it will translate at his size. How many 197cm players have played midfield? Would be crazy.

Hopefully the coaches have learnt a lesson from Dawson and will be willing to give it a go.

It wouldn't be the worst thing to have another Dawson running around half back. I also wonder if he could turn into a gun key forward?
For reference, midfielders in a similar height range to Curtin (197cm):

Mark Blicavs (198cm)
Connor Nash (197cm)
Patrick Cripps (195cm)
Greg Clarke (195cm)
Marcus Bontempelli (194cm)
Ed Allan (194cm)
Jai Culley (194cm)
Patrick Voss (194cm)

Also wouldn’t surprise me to see Nick Blakey (195cm) integrate himself into midfield in the near future.

No it’s not. There are a heap of fresh young kids leading the way now compared to them. Culture is significantly better in the squad

yep even blind freddy can see that. we have NEVER had multiple elite interstate players sign up for 6 MORE years. Not losing any young elite players in recent years, only players that are marginal (McAdam) or want gone (Dude)

Only a numbnut could argue otherwise re culture

I think Clarko is a good enough operator to know he shouldn't interfere with drafting

Seeing the recruiters are drafting for Clarko and the parameters he sets, he'd get who he would want. Though it may also be a case that the coach doesn't know a great deal about the players who are drafted.

The simplest explanation as to why they put a lot of work into Curtin before opting elsewhere is they couldn't split Curtin and Duursma as prospects, which also indicates they weren't madly in love with either.

Thanks, missed the beginning, any comment on coming to Adelaide
Gerard asked him smuggly how he felt coming to somewhere like Adelaide, said he’d been here multiple times and loved it.

Watching his highlights and he's got that Dawson like quality of kicking it to the advantage of the receiving player, usually trying to put it out in front of them. I know it's basic football stuff but it's amazing how many players make it to the AFL without being able to do this.

Was on Triple M this morning as well.

Was surprised to be taken by Adelaide but also mentioned any club would have been a surprise.

Looking forward to getting over here and goal is to play round 1.

Lived in Adelaide when he was very young, i.e 0-2, and on and off until he was 6. Still has family in Adelaide (must be aunts, uncles, grandparents ???)

I did see him described as ‘quietly spoken’ in the lead up to the draft
Very similar personality traits to Dawson ....but very confident in his on-field abilities, same as Dawson

I can't remember seeing a 197cm player with the combination of great composure & touch with his kicking .....he just doesn't get flustered at all

Yep it’s an incredibly rare combination

Great aerially too, which you’ll love ;)

Yep, I have always loved contested marking Mids ....marking between the arc's is Gold ! .....takes pressure off the DEF, and facilitates efficient forward entries

I wouldn't either, but it was basically a wash trade for them, so why on earth did they bother doing it?
They got something extra for stuff they were already going to get. Albeit maybe they thought the Saints were going to jump them on Leake or someone else for that matter so needed to get into there.

Same with Geelong/Essendon trade. I don't think the Cats were going to take Caddy and didn't really need to trade but did anyway to get another asset moving forward.

Often it's someone else offering to trade, so the team one pick behind has to beat that.

You also get your super-mobile ruck types (eg Grundy) that essentially play as a midfielder once the ruck contest is done.

Kids are getting bigger and taller with every year..

Mids are now 190-195cm
kP’s are now 195-200cm+
Rucks are now getting closer to 210cm

Compare this with 20 years ago.. hell, compare it with just 10 years ago.

The AFL player is changing.

Curtin could simply be the next step in the evolution of the modern midfielder.

Curtin is 197cm.. Cripps is 195cm..

Grab a ruler and check out just how much 2cm is.. you could barely notice the difference in height if the two of them were standing side by side. Come down to whos having a bad hair day of the two!.

Curtin can definitely become a cripps type big tall mid.

I don't believe that in the slightest.

If Clarko wants Curtin, Clarko gets Curtin as they had three picks before pick 8. No one at North is risking his wrath seeing he's the only thing they have going for them.
No I don’t agree

These recruiters are paid to get the job done and have done all the hours work

Most times coached intervene it goes pear shaped

They’re not going to let a coach make the call on a top 3 pick no matter who the coach is and if they did there is something very wrong with the club and a disconnect on peoples roles and responsibilities
