I jut can't wait to see a centre square of Dawson (194 cms), Curtin (197 cms) and Edwards (191 cms) - all can play and that would be physically intimidating
Nah..

Mixes of

-Dawson, curtin, rakine

-pedlar, dawson, edwards

-rachele, Curtin, rankine

-pedlar, curtin, rachele..

-curtin, edwards, rachele

The possibilities are endless.

And they all should immediately result in less of sloane, keays and eventually less of laird and crouch..

The future is upon us!.

Only thing I worry about is other than maybe Pedlar (have the most confidence in his pure grunt abilities out of that lot), there’s no real in and under ‘clearance pig’ to distribute the ball amongst that lot

We’ve still got crouch for a couple of years.. you’ll note that I wrote “eventually” when saying we should be seeing the end of him and laird in the middle.. not straight away..

Yeah fair, but we’ll need a replacement of sorts to add amongst the mix eventually

Obviously not necessarily like for like, but someone who can extract at a high level

Some more footage - gee he has a great sidestep and a nice burst out of a pack in this highlights package. Just looks so composed and has a generally good kick on him

More and more I look I see Bontempelli.

Petty playing forward in 2024 could be a good thing for us. If anything, our KPF stocks are even weaker than our KPD stocks. At least our KPD stocks are all relatively young, and unlikely to be going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Our KPF stocks are Walker, Fogarty, Thilthorpe, and Himmelberg.
  • Walker is now a year-to-year proposition, and every year could be his last. 2023 was his career best season, so there's no argument whatsoever about him holding his position on form. But time waits for no man, and the end can come very quickly for AFL players. 2024 could be his last year, or he could play on in 2025 (and maybe even 2026). We just don't know, but we do know that his remaining time is short.
  • Himmelberg is almost certain to depart, probably as a FA, at the end of 2024.
  • Thilthorpe continues to tease us with glimpses of greatness, but has yet to show consistency. His talent is undoubted, but he really needs to start stepping things up from 2024 onwards.
  • Fogarty is an enigma. His form in the back half of 2022 was outstanding, but he failed to back that up in 2023. To be fair, he suffered a knee injury early in the season, and his confidence probably took a hit as a result of returning before he was 100% fit - and we know that confidence is very important to him (his time with a sports psychologist was one of the keys to unlocking his talent in 2022). Fingers crossed 2024 sees a return to his 2022 form.
We only have 4x KPFs, and there's a strong possibility that 2 of them could be gone at the end of 2024 (though I hope Walker continues). The other 2x KPFs are young, and inconsistent.

Adding another KPF is probably going to be critical to our success from 2025 onwards. I know we're going to be drafting Welsh next year, but he will need time to develop - we shouldn't be expecting him to make a significant impact straight away.
I agree with this and I think the solution is to realise that we now, or soon, will have much more versatile types who can rotate back/forward. We now have Burgess, Curtin, and Worrell who fit that bill (the latter according to Mutineer), and may well have Petty (and Welsh) in the future. This gives us many options and, IMO, obviates the need to go hunting for a star KPF.

Exactly

We always said how good it would be to have 2x Dawsons

Well ….
I agree strongly. Preferably, we should start him as a back distributor, and work along the Dawson path from there.
I reckon he can play just about any position, but I absolutely don't want him starting at FB as a stopper and having his talent squashed, unless, possibly, it is part of a well-defined short-term training program.

Don't think I've been this excited about a draftee in a long time. Has the potential to not just rival Harley as best player in the draft, but also could reach 'best player in the competition' level.

Nice , agree Clam

Reckon the midfield talent base isn’t far off , just development and opportunities required next

Crouch, if he plays like he did for the last part of the season he’ll win another bnf or 2 and an AA

Berry would be it if he could rediscover 2022 form , and develop a level off that

But not sure he can / will

He was a strange one. His body looked trim, maybe a little leaner, but he wasn't nearly as vigorous as at his peak. Skills didn't look any different, but production well down. Did he have some sort of health problem?

Fair to say it’s more unlikely than likely, but possible

Wonder if there’s anyone that’s under 24 or so that we can trade in for that

I thought he looked a little too bulky

With muscle

Powell is a v good shout

LDU very likely isn’t realistic but I’d be ecstatic if it happened
From now on, we should only poach players who will clearly improve the best 22. Powell won't do that, LDU will.
So, we should be adventurous, but persistent, as there will be knockbacks.
