Utter hack.

No doubt there'll be one person who praises Smith's 1 touch, 1 free kick against, performance today, but that aside, he was deplorable.

How did Jimmy Bartel go? He'd wanna lift his game and head back to the seniors.

By far our best player on the ground. 20+ touches.

Bartel played a midfield/halfback role.
The other good players were Shannon Byrnes,Tim Callan,James Byrne & Tom Lonergan was okay.

Steve Johnson,Will Slade & David Loats all returned from longterm injury.

Shannon Byrnes really impressed me with his game today, showed great pace across a ground that usually restricts speedsters like him. Add to that the 2 great roving goals he kicked.

Timmy Callan was a rock in defense, took some courageous marks and helped clear the ball out on many occassions. Perfect replacement for Sando.

I was pretty impressed with Jimmy Byrne, good in traffic I felt, and has reasonably good hand skills.

Lonergan took some good marks, though pity most were in defense and not up forward. His kicking is not bad at all for a tall bloke, though he needs to lead out of the forward 50 more often instead of wrestling to take contested marks in a one-on-one situation. Still hasn't got the body for it.

Cam Thurley looked dangerous when he had the ball, yet I wasn't impressed at all by his second effort attempts and one-percenters. Failed to give chase to his opponent on many occassions and gave away a silly 50 metre penalty.

Young Blake also impressed me early on in the ruck with his ability to hit the ball out to our advantage. If you look back at the tapes, you'll see he consistently got the upper hand in the ruck contests and forced the ball in our way.

Danny Byrne also impressed me with his speed and dash from the half back line and wing before kicking long to a contest. Would compliment the likes of Tenace, Wojcinski, S.Byrnes rather nicely.

Spencer and Allan didn't have their usual games. Spencer especially didn't have a great influence, though I look forward to seeing him again. Allan got a fair bit of the pill and kicked some nice goals, but wasn't as good as previous weeks methinks.

Howd Rooke go?

Was OK, but nothing too special to warrant a call-back straight away. Took some good grabs and made some good spoils, but still made some simple mistakes, the same type that cost him his place in the seniors.

I was also impressed by McCarthy and Koularoutis, hadnt seen Koula before today and hed have to be close to a game in the next few weeks. On a difficult day for big men matty and lonergan were good, although the roosters didnt have big defenders

McCarthy took some good grabs but again, nothing that should warrant him a place in the seniors again.

It was also the first time I had seen Koula play, and I walked away a reasonably impressed guy. The one thing I notice about Koula is that he tends to hurriedly snap the ball on his boot, and although this helped in the centre clearences, often his kick was an awkward one and tumbled along the ground (which was, in these conditions, even harder for players to pick up).

The whole game was so frustrating, if they wernt 5 to 6 goal better side Ill go he.SOFT , SOFT , SOFT . It was like watching Port Adelaide play finals SOFT. If Watts didnt blast them for only 1 goal with a 1-2 goal wind and to concede 3 in the second then he should go.SOFT.How many of those guys would have bruise's SOFT/Koutsaksisss?(how ever it spelt) too slow caught all the time SOFT.Dont get injured in case I get call up to the big time SOFT
Some Players
Smith looked a bit bigger than the last time I saw him and to be honest the conditions didnt favour big guys like him, took a mark or two.He, Loats,Spenser and Blake all suffered from playing in weather.Thats why the big bloke for Ballarat did such a top job.
FOSTER , Has he got pictures of Thompson or something. The amont of time hes been he and he doesnt look as thoughj hes improved at all.GONE
SPRIGGS , Whats the use of get that many touchs and doing nothing with them , TRADE
BARTEL. A step above at that level.Looked like Greg Williams at times. Its shame that you dont get kept on the list to play VFL, Improve or TRADE,
LONIGAN, Nice kick for goal but get serious.Start eating Macs or something, you arent going to play AFL with out more body.
#43 ? another burne? .Did some good stuf in the guts.Slightly slow but showed he could find the ball , more than some

Lets hope tomorrow is not that maddening

So presumably Shannon Byrnes is back off the senior list and back on the rookie list.

One would think so. Shame, considering Byrnes really put on a display yesterday.
