Looks like he may develop into a good player and a real leader.

Looks better with every game.

If Johnson captains the club for 2 more years, could Jackson then be in the mix?

discuss.

That's certainly a little from left field TT....dunno if i would call him 'captaincy material' just yet, needs to be a little more established as a consistent AFL player before we debate his leadership credentials.

The building blocks are there though;)

Quite possible that we may have a nice little leadership group going in a few years time:thumbsu:

why not look at players like Foley who have proved far more and shown greater leadership capabilities.
I can see where you are coming from with the aggression he shows as it is an important attribute but having a player who can kick inspirational goals and has a great work ethic is in my opiniuon more suitable.

Needs to learn to be starting 18 material first.
Personally, he wouldn't be one that I would like to see as captain. Has a long way to go to establish himself and I don't see the leadership skills.
I think Tambling has more leadership skills and would make a good captain but needs to work on establishing himself first as well.

needs to damage teams like he did against collingwood. that game proved that he CAN be a matchwinning player. just needs to do it more often. it is not out of the realms of possibility for him to captain the club, but as others have pointed out he needs to establish himself in the side first.

Surely this thread is a joke...

Whilst I hope Jackson 'makes it' as an established player, he lacks waaaaay too much at the moment to even be considered a definate starting 22, let alone a prospective captain of the RFC...

We are obviously in a sad state of affairs if people honestly think he is a possible captain...

Thank **** for a voice of reason!!! Lids ,foley, newman, even polak in his short time at the club has shown that much more on a reguar basis its not funny. A couple of decent games does not make you a leader. Its about your worst performances almost... So get a game every week and we could possibly look at him.

That said think he will be a decent player, and could be anything in a few years, just think it would be way more relevant to talk about any first team regular before Jackson.

:)IN the words of the great John McEnroe: "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS"!

FFS, Jackson doesn't even command a regular game in our strating 18, let alone the 22.

A handful of good games in 2007 ......... don't kid yourselves ......... a handful. Might I add, in a team which finished dead last!

Yet we think this guy is leadership material.

We'd be a laughing stock even considering him for such a role.

Jackson needs to simply knuckle down and started playing REGULAR, CONSISTENT football, to gain anywhere near the respect to live up to the overblown opinion many on Big Footy have of him.

Granted Jackson made progress in 2007, while many of his peers stagnated or simply went backwards, but he is still a long way off even being considered a regular.

Nothing against the kid...I hope he does turn out to be a star...but he such a long way from it it ain't funny!

Jackson winning the captaincy next season or sometime shortly thereafter would be a bigger upset than the 125-1 bolter Dandy Andy upstaging the stras in Bonecrusher and Vo Rogue in the 1988 Australian Cup!

Very smart kid and hard enough at it. Ver naive in a football sense as a bit of a late starter to the game. Like others have said, lets get him up and playing as a first team regular before we think about captaincy.

Captain of Coburg maybe !!!!! He has a long way to go to even make it as an AFL player let alone captain an AFL club.....

This thread needs to be drug tested......

This thread makes me sick... sick to the core! He's been given a one year contract, has played 5 ok games over a 5 year period and still is yet to be sure if he gets a game each week.

I still stand by my comment that he wont the 50 game milestone, let alone captain our club. God, strike me ****ing dead.

Overrated.

Completely agree with you Wally....From day one I've said Jackson is a plodder, slow in the body and a peanut in traffic. The only time he looked good was when Jack Riewoldt's quick hands allowed him the freedom to kick a flukey goal.

People don't seem to understand that with the influx of new players we have this year, any player from past years who isn't established already may never get a chance again, as a new player may take his place this season.

The Jacksons, Moores, Meyers, Connors, Hughes, Schulz, JON etc, etc. are on their last chance as this year's crop of young draftees fight for a position in the Seniors.......a position they should have cemented already. I've already starting saying that for these guys and a few others that this is their 'Death Row' year. They must make huge steps this year or we'll grab another fresh group next year. These guys have no time. And that's the way it should be at a club. The likes of Lids and Foley etc, etc haven't got the luxury of 20 years while they wait for others to develop around them or be found.

Our list is getting better, but we need to weed out those that don't fit our team and style. Big deal if they make it somewhere else, what's important is that if we as a club are able to decide that they aren't right for OUR game plan and style.
We just move on positively with conviction.......and quickly.

Cheers

C'mon guys. You know better than to get fired up on a thread started by one of our inside trolls. He is not serious, but just looking to fire everyone up...which seems to have worked.

Jackson has showed a bit and we all know he is a player that now needs to take the next step. Which is become a week in week out picked player. Until then though, any talk of captain material is ludicrous.

Good one TerryTan. My tip would be JON..mark it down:rolleyes:
