Re: Daniel Murray - rookie

If Charman is likely to be out for anything longer than 2 weeks, I would be thinking considerably about elevating Murray. Even in the case where Charman is not out for very long, Murray might still impress enough to be elevated.

Obviously he has only played the one game and is straight out of the rookie draft, but from most accounts he does not appear to be as physically raw as some of the other young rucks that we've had on the list.

Re: Daniel Murray - rookie

Is he next in line Grim ? I know he hasn't played too much at this stage.

It's hard to tell because he's only just back from injury himself. Even Vossy would be a bit unsure of what his form is like. But at the moment he is our only fit ruckman (not including Clark).

My guess is they'll let him play a few more games in the ressies to get some match fitness up, and then make a decision then.

BRISBANE will this week discuss elevating Irishman Pearce Hanley to the senior list to add another strong body to Michael Voss's selection mix. And rookie ruckman Daniel Murray will also be monitored closely if scans today reveal ruckman Jamie Charman faces a lengthy layoff with an ankle injury. The Lions can create two vacancies on the senior list with No. 1 ruckman Matthew Leuenberger and draftee midfielder Kieran King both out with long-term injuries.
Murray is a raw-boned rookie from East Perth in the WAFL who only made his reserve grade debut on Friday against Northern Territory Thunder, the curtain-raiser to the Brisbane-Collingwood game.
But at 200cm and 99kg, he is the only true big man left at Voss's disposal if he feels Mitch Clark needs permanent back-up while Leuenberger and Charman are out.
Voss could be looking for two replacements for Sunday's clash with the Cats with Jed Adcock, who has burst back into form this season, also facing scans today on an ankle injury.

Re: Daniel Murray - rookie

AFLQ

Murray’s first game for the club was timely, given the injuries to ruckman Matthew Leuenberger and now Jamie Charman.

Still only 18 and a member of the club’s rookie list, the former East Perth player moved well and looked to have some football nous.

Sidelined until now due to osteitis pubis, Murray was prominent at the centre bounces and even stronger in the air around the ground in his short stints during the first half.

The injuries may force Lions coach Michael Voss to promote the rookie-listed Daniel Murray, who has played only one match in the AFLQ with the Lions' reserves."We've got young Bart McCulloch, he hasn't started playing, Daniel Murray is on our rookie list, he played on the weekend for the first time," Voss said.
"Whether or not he makes the next transition, we've now got two spots on our list available, Kieran King has gone on the long term injury list, along with Matthew Leuenberger."
"It's one of those ones where as a match committee you've got to go over the pros and cons of whether you bring someone in so early."
"Whether he's ready, does that help or hinder his development?"

Such is the dearth of big men at the Lions, Voss is considering handing a senior debut to the Western Australian youngster Daniel Murray at Geelong on Sunday despite the fact the 18-year-old has played only one reserve game.
"I wouldn't say we are in a healthy position," Voss admitted.
"If there is anyone we need to bring off the rookie list like Daniel Murray we will look at it.
"His size was the reason we recruited him and he has fair mobility about him.
"But as a match committee we've really got to go over the pros and cons of bringing someone in so early and whether he is ready."

At 200cm, 99kg Murray already has the frame to step up to AFL level. But Voss wondered if it was worth the gamble considering the potential mental scars the Cats could inflict on Murray.

AFLQ

Daniel Murray is still on restricted game time due to his return from osteitis pubis.

“We did not have a winner in the key positions or the ruck,” Brittain admitted.

Ooh Aah Ash McGrath

Who is the heaviest player at the Club?
Sean from Launceston (Tasmania)

Daniel Murray is a pretty big fella as well – we call him ‘Humphrey’.

Hmm, sounds like it might be true.

If so, I would not be surprised to be honest.

I saw a few people give him a wrap on here but I just couldn't see it. Just looked far too slow and cumbersome to ever make it as an AFL player IMO. I remember describing him as "clunky"... can't remember if that was on here or not.

That Proud clan need a talking to about posting stuff on the web.

Don't rookies usually get delisted unless they show something? I don't think Dan showed enough to get considered TBH. I don't really believe he was in consideration for any AFL games either, no matter what Voss was reported in saying.
