"The Courier Mail said Daniel Rich is in GWS'S sights but may be headed to West Coast . "

"The Courier Mail suggests the lions face an uphill battle to retain Rich . It says foreboding signs are everywhers - the reluctance of Richs manager Paul Connors , to start contract talks and the interest of both GWS and the Eagles.

Oh and there is the stunning revelation Rich's father favours his son going to the Eagles .Are we to take it Rich is a Daddys boy ?

The Lions though , are not about to panic. Football operations manager Dean Warren told the Courier Mail that as keen as the club is to retain Rich , it is not going to dangle the carrot of leadership position to do so . "

Looks like Rich is a very good chance to West Coast 2012

I would lose sleep over this either way, but if the price is right you can never have too muck quality depth in the midfield

Fact is he will be uncontacted. GWS can offer much more then us in terms of money but I think we would be in the box seat.

Say Waters goes to GWS, we then get a end of first round compo pick, trade that pick and our second rounder for Rich. Brizzy will hardly say no to that.

So a pick 19 > 21 plus pick 40ish for Rich.

That would be a steal, I think our first and 2nd would be needed and we either keep / use any compo pick.

What will be interesting is the number of inside mids we would have and if a player would become involved in a swap?

But who?

Stevens, Smith, Stevenson or Swift maybe?

Fair chance their name would start with an "S" anyhow.:D

Interesting his manager doesn't want to open negotiations yet.

If we do get Rich - it's going to include our 1st pick.

I'm backing us to finish ahead of Brissie - and wouldn't be surpised to see something along the lines of Rich & Pick 26 for Pick 12 & Pick 30

Rich + 26:confused:

More like Rich + 44 or 62 maybe for 12 + 30. Basically a mid first round + something else extra.

Rich is worth more than one mid range first round pick but your suggesting he is worth less?

I'm just hoping Mitch Clark wants to go to Freo so they are out of the running and we basically don't end up bidding against each other for the same player.:D

If rich comes over i would very much suggest it would include a player as well. Come the end of this season one of our young mids might be a little disgruntled about not getting more playing time and i would think to get rich it would take our first and second picks plus the player for rich and their second pick.

Would be hard to out bid Western Sydney for him, considering they can offer a much better contract and a much better trade.

We dont need to out bid GWS , If Rich is keen on West Coast - which by the sounds of it he is, then we are in the box seat ! Not about money is about returning to Perth and playing AFL

Rich doesnt have to sign with GWS if he doesnt want too

Yeah true.. I know he will be un contracted so he will go where he wants too but they will surely push our offer up to at least our first rounder and some steak knives.

Of course it will be tempting for him to just go to GWS considering they pay packet they will offer him so...

I'm happy with that, just got to get both clubs to sign off on this agreement.

Clark to Freo, Rich to Eagles.

I don't think he is perfect for us anyway.

Kids we should be chasing

1. Bennell
2. Matera
3. Yarran
4. L Jetta
5. Then Rich

Not gonna bother with swallow he's too good to get close to.

I do think we are gonna need to nab another very highly rated young mid. Atm i think our developing midfield might not be quite good enough to win a premiership in the future.

Bullshit, he is perfect for us. Potentially the best left foot in the game, ball magnet, inside and out player and young. Naitanui, Gaff, Shuey, Rich, Scooter and Stevens....That's a diverse and bloody quality midfield.

Throw anything but Shuey, Nat, Darling and Gaff to get him.

He doesn't break lines so isn't perfect for us. replace his name with any of the above mentioned and it looks better and even more diverse.

Not keen on sheppard are we? Sheppard>Rich

Rich went for Pick 7 - if he is motivated to go home - that decreases his value - not increases it. And whilst he had a quality first season - his second wasn't anything to write home about.

A pick around 12 would be ample in that scenario - particularly with GWS sniffing around

We paid about that pick for Stenglein who was a far more mature, seasoned and well performed player to that point.

Why break the lines when you can kick (accurately) over them?

Sheppard will be a utility Dale Thomas type imo, there's one pacy runner. The midfield would be more culturally diverse with your group but the quality and impact Rich would give on the field would be greater than those you mentioned....Imo.

FS - you are absolutely correct EXCEPT his 2nd season was almost as good its just brissie's was worse so it didnt stand out.

Seriously guys, are any of you saying that if Rich was available you wouldnt make a play for him if you were WC ?

He is a seriously good footballer that would be a welcome addition in ANY midfield let alone one that lacks A grade polished footballers like WC's.

If WC finish with #12ish and could get Rich with this pick there would be Moet being cracked in every room of Worsfold's house.

Say we were paying the same price you wouldn't take bennell over rich?

If one is available and the other isn't you have to take what you can get

First off - it would be a matter of knowing what talent is available in the draft - so for mine I wouldn't have a clue as I don't follow it.

Secondly - i'm a bit of a fan of not trading for talent until you know what you need. The likes of swift, masten, ebert, stevens and gaff may all star - and it turns out we need a CHB.

Part of me thinks its best to wait and see where the hole is before you try and plug it

Picking rich of course makes sense in that he is the right age bracket to grow with the side

I wouldn't worry about the trade too much. Once players decide where they want to go clubs tend to work it out and fair market value is paid. If Rich wants to come to West Coast, and the club want him, it will happen.

A young midfield of Rich, Shuey, Masten, Scooter etc sounds pretty exciting to me...
