Should we consider getting this guy with pick 11?

it seems quite likely he will be available.
there are big raps on the kid but he played most of his footy this year down back (and we definitely don't need another big backman)

Anyone have some information on this bloke?
Will he play predominantly as a forward or back in his career?

From afl.com.au

Height: 194cm
Weight: 89kg
DOB: 02/10/91
Recruited from: Assumption College
Bio: Versatile key position player who can play well at either end of the ground. Clean hands and great endurance for his size are strengths. Vic Metro U18 representative in 2009, winning All-Australian honours.
Matt Burgan's draft rating: 8-25
In his own words
What type of player are you?
I am an agile, hard working, key position tall. I play forward and down back and I think I’m quite versatile. I’m a team player and I always try to do my best for my role in a team.

Which AFL player do you resemble, and why?
I think I resemble Nick Riewoldt because he is a hard working CHF, he has similar build to myself and he played CHB as a junior in the under 18 championship. I aspire to be as good as he is.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
My strengths as a footballer are my work rate (endurance), my versatility and my discipline in training and preparation.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
I would like to improve my kicking, my core strength and speed off the mark.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
I support Carlton. I have barracked for them since I was 4 years old and I came to support them as I liked the Carlton jumper at that age. From then on I have supported them.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
My grandfather, Harvey Stevens. Harvey played for the Bulldogs '54 premiership side. He always talks to me about footy and comes to watch me play. Harvey grew up without parents, supporting a family from the age of 13. He is an absolute inspiration to me.
Interesting that he wants to improve his kicking and speed off the mark. Going by last year I think BP likes guys with good kicking and speed so I'm not sure if Talia will be his man at 11. But from what I've read he's a good player and should be available at 11

Could be similar to Hurley in that is predominately played as a backman but is more than capable as a forward. Wont be there at 18 so probably just depends on how keen we are with him, that is if he is avaliable at 11

Apparently a rumor going around is the Eagles are considering taking Black at #7 over Jetta, so if that were to happen & Butcher were taken then Talia would probably be the way to go. Him or Vardy, as he too can play forward as well as ruck & I doubt either of these two will last until #18.

I agree BigSexc. Said from day one i want Vardy. Pick 18 if he is there nab him.

I would Love Black at 11. But if Tapscott is there i would find that hard to pass up on as well.

You dont need a forward line to win premierships, Geelong and WCE proved that. Build a gun midfield and you will get it in there enough times to kick the goals anyway.

If Black and Butcher are gone Talia is our man. Vardy is a nothing man!

I'd take Griffiths at 18 over Vardy and Carlisle. He has massive upside, been injured so his value is way down. Basically 200cm, 100kg, takes pack marks and kicks goals from outside 50. He is a man's FF. Injury free he would have been a good shot at top 10.

I will spew is we take Vardy. Gawn or Fitzpatrick at P34 as our ruckman please :thumbsu:

When Vardy becomes a gun ruck in five years time you will be spewin you said that. Im tellin ya he is all dat homey!

Port are an outside chance of taking Talia, then Melbourne and Carlton will be considering him. I think we'll take Black and then I dont think Talia will get past Carlton.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was taken between #14 & #17, but he could make it to #18. Don't forget Port need a ruckman, & if they take a mid & a forward at #8 & #9 then chances are they'll take Vardy at #16.

so port will be picking two vic boys who will want to leave shortly after arriving, they should go well with boak

Have been doing a lot of reading on the Phantom drafts over the past couple of weeks, most punters have rated the KPP'S like this;

Butcher
Black
Carlisle
Talia
Griffiths
Panos

The top 6 seems set at

Scully
Trengove
Martin
Morabito
Cunnington
Rohan (most likely Sydney wont take KPP as they have Bradshaw)

WCE may take Butcher or Black, Kane Lucas or Lewis Jetta have been mentioned a lot at 7.
Port will take a combination of KPP and mid with 8 and 9, most likely butcher.
Essendon will look to take a mid with pace to cover for Lovett, have plenty of KPP already.
Melbourne, Butcher would be ideal but most likely going to port. I would chose Carlisle, Black, Talia and Griffiths in that order, obviously looking at using 18 on Talia or Griffiths.
Cartlon will definitely take KPF to cover for Fev, may look to Talia over black due to his versatility. I am expecting Butcher, Carlisle, and one of Talia and Balck to be definitely gone by 18.

I'd be interested to know why you would take Carlisle over Black and Talia?

In terms of KPP ability i would have had it Talia, Black then Carlisle with us taking Black as a better KPF.

Thats the way I see it too - I think Carlisle is the only one who is a chance to be available at 18 too.

Carlisle played second fiddle all year to Talia.

If Carlisle and Griffiths are the only 2 KPP left at 18 i'd take Griffiths in a second. If his body had of been 100% this year i think he would be right up with Butcher as "best KPP in this years draft".

I won't claim to know all these guys games inside out, have seen a coulpe of you tube highlights. My oppinions have been based on the write on the phatom drafts board.

Alot of people of carlisle ahead of Talia (most have him at 12 to carlton) Black and Carlisle are pretty even at 11. I like carlisle more than black becuase of his extra height, and the fact that black is essentially 18 and half in this draft, he was more developed than the kids he was playing against. But i think he played seniors in the WAFL, so that is a plus.

Eithey way there is a few options we have, and it starts from butcher is selected.

I'm very keen on getting Talia with pick 11. His versatility to play as a tall in both the forward and back line is a huge positive. As previously said, similar in the mould of a Hurley, or even an Adam Hunter of West Coast. These types of players are invaluable, as you get 2 players in 1. Plus, one also cannot rule out that Colin Garland may not get back onto the park, his injury is a big concern to me, getting Talia will just cover the bases a bit more.

If we are to also pick up Thorp in the PSD (where he could turn into a serviceable forward should he get his attitude and injuries in check), that would rule out selecting a permanent forward with pick 11.

Talia @ 11 and Vardy @18.

Sad but true...

Thorp has to veiwed as cream. Until he can show a period of sustained fitness i don't think we should rely on him playing a role in our best 22.

People are way too obsessed with the "go home factor". Clubs these days do so much for the players to help them adjust to a different life and as you are at the club training every day they pretty much become family.

I'm hopeful of taking Talia, I think we should still go best available, you only draft for needs if you are a good team looking to get over the hump, we want the best available and Talia to me sounds like he would be a steal at 11 and if available at 12 to Carlton they would definitely pick him. I'd almost gamble that Black will be there at 18 and if he's not carlisle and/or griffiths will be there and wouldn't be bad options. Getting Gawn at 34 would cap the draft off perfectly imo as he might not become anything but at 206cm if he has any sort of ability at that size he'd be a good AFL ruckman

Oh, I didn't realize we were basing draft choices on which state they came from. Silly me, here I was thinking we should draft based on what we need to make our team stronger. I guess we'll be overlooking Trengove then.

sarcasm not appreciated Goobers, its a bit different with vic boys moving to SA, they dont normally want to go, and definitely not to PA, T.Boak and his family didnt even celebrate when he got drafted by PA.. he was so sure he would go to geelong. and trengove lives on the border in between Melbourne and Adelaide

I think I read somewhere he's been living in Adelaide for a while, but is originally from the border
