Had a very good career at North Melbourne, had a few decent moments for the Pies, but sadly, all the many injuries he suffered over the years caught up on him.

Lost 100 plus games throughout his career due to injury.

His 2004 Goal of the Year was something out of the box.

It's a very low key retirement it seems, but I hope he gets the recognition he deserves

Played 258 of a possible 392 games across 17 seasons in the end, including 123 of a possible 137 games in his first six years in the league, before injuries began to hit.

If you get 250+ games out of the #2 draft pick, you'd assume they had an absolutely unquestionable superstar career. Wells was great at his best, but also somewhat unfulfilled due to injuries. Two B&Fs and no AA selections isn't a fitting account of his talents.

All the best to him in retirement. A quality performer on his day, and solid citizen, role model and leader to boot.

Was hoping he’d make a miracle return for the finals but wasn’t meant to be. Kicked 3 first half goals against Sydney in his final game before going down. Showed the impact he was still able to provide.

Although he played over 250 games. I still reflect on what Wells could've been. Seems an unfulfilled talent despite the large output of games.
Never selected in an All Australian team, which is quite surprising when you consider his raw talent and silky skills, and that he played 258 games over 17 years. He had his share of injuries, but he still managed to play 18-22 games in 11 different seasons.

2 Best and fairests, (1 R/up, 8 x Top 10)

He carved up Hawthorn on many occasions

Well played.

All the talent in the world, played some blinding footy with it too.

Unlucky with injury and unlucky to land into Dean Laidley coached North.
