Well the only thing holding us back was the concern that he wouldn't want to stay in Melbourne and would prove hard to keep in the long run. Statements like this certainly take the gambling aspect away. He is probably the number one pick in the country on performances so far and we should get the best two youngsters regardless of positional needs so I pray that we get him. We are also looking at Brendan Goddard who has indicated that he won't play next year concentrating on school football instead and Wells seems ready to go at whatever level so we should get him.

Denis Pagan wouldn't be adverse to backing the skills of a brilliant aboriginal player if history is any guide so he will be given every opportunity to play his natural game.

Pagan doesnt like creativity. Pagan doesnt give naturally brilliant players every oppurtunity to perform as they naturally would. Pagan allows that for certain players..

Interesting....cant think why he would ever want to go there?

Things change from year to year Jod. You weren't a great side last year, in fact you were terrible and IMO your win loss ratio flattered you. However, with some exciting draft picks and a new coach and players finding form, things changed for the better. Who says that can't happen at Carlton?

With Pagan taking over the reigns at Carlton, the focus goes onto the draft. Comments like Wells that he wants to go to the Blues is great to hear for the game. But the kid better realise he is unlikely to get a senior game next year unless he is something absolutely special.

Pagan likes his kids to do an apprenticeship, do the hard yards, earn your spot and create the hunger for it. He also likes to extract every possibly thing out of the experienced players, so all the older players at Carlton can be confident they will be given a go, then its up to them to deliver. As much as he gives you a go, he is quite ruthless, and takes no prisoners.

Just my thoughts.

I heard Peter German (peel coach) talking about Wells and the article from the West on 6PR. He said that wells would love to stay in WA and play, but with freo having pick 5 and the eagles pick 9 or 10, he is resigned to the fact that he will probably be playing footy in Victoria next year. German said that he thought that the article had been blown out of proportion but mentioned that Wells was mighty keen to play AFL footy as his #1 priority, no matter where he might end up.

Yeah fair enough but i still dont think you will be able to turn it around enough to make the 8. Carlton could be a bottom 4 team for the next few years. I hope not though cos i actually like Carlton. Unlike its arrogant counterparts, Collingwood and Essendon, you lot seems to have both feet on the ground. So i hope you turn it around next year.

Hmm, maybe we can trade a player and pick 5 for pick 2?

Or how about #5, #21 and #53 for #2?

Did you think West Coast could grab him at pick 11?

Today's Collingwood Propaganda Daily says that you guys may go for him at pick 11!

I think that was assuming we obtain a high draft pick via a trade. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't taken in the top 3

Carlton was a good team that had injury problems this year.....with all these draft picks and the top uncontracted player the basis is there for a top 8 team next year definately.

Yes, of course you can. The other 10 clubs will leave one of the hottest prospects in the draft just for you, okay.

Merry Xmas too, you obviously believe in Santa too !!

Was having a private joke with Eagle Fan (him going at pick 11, get real)...........if you read my later post I stated that it's highly unlikely he'd be available beyond pick 3

The word on this kid just gets better and better. There are no ifs buts or maybes, we have to get him .... assuming the AFL investigators don't find a way to take the choice away from us.

So he wants to go to Vic coz it's where the 'real' footy is played. WTF does he mean 'real' footy? Well if Carlton do lose their top 2 picks, there might be no real footy for you then Daniel.

I think picking up Wells would be a great move for the Blues. I've seen him play here in WA numerous times and he has potential champion written all over him, and if he doesn't mind playing in Victoria away from home then that's a great sign to pick him up.

I use to play with Daniel back in Port Lincoln (SA) rather strange he has come along so well since his early days in SA from what i can recall he is a great kick good goal sneak and is pritty fast. I cant see moving to VIC would be a problem for him, i havent seen him of late but went to have a gander at the draft camp and he looks bloody good.
