Description:
The son of Anthony, and nephew of Terry, Chris and Neale, there is a somewhat of an expectation on the latest Daniher drafted to Essendon. Darcy was drafted as a defender, but found this year he can play forward or back. I would argue that he is more suited to the forward line, where we are weaker, so he will get more of an opportunity there. He is tall at 191cm, and very quick for this size. He can take a strong mark and is an accurate kick. Good at taking a mark above his head and also good when the ball hits the deck.
Season Review:
Again managed 3 games in his 2nd year with Essendon. Played a fair bit in the VFL, and progressed well there. He had an interrupted pre-season, and hasn’t completed a full one yet with a few shoulder injuries, including a shoulder reconstruction. In the VFL he was played as a forward and managed to get a 5 goal haul, which is a great effort considering the quality of delivery. He was the leading goal kicker for the VFL team. He suffered a groin injury earlier in the season, but wasn’t too inhibited by injuries in 2009. He polled 5 votes out of a possible 120 in the Crichton Medal, which earned him 31st place.

2010 Aims:
Complete a full pre-season, beef up that little bit more. I think that his skills are passable, but he could possibly work on his fitness base to be able to cope with the style of play and intensity that the AFL team will play at. No huge expectations on him, but he had a good season up forward in 2009. Will depend on form and injuries to whether he gets much time in the AFL team, but I think that he will be given more opportunities in 2010, especially if he can maintain form in the 2nds. Contracted until 2011, so there are no major pressures on him to prove anything. Only 20, so has a fair bit of development left you would think.

Overview: Again, only saw 3 games of him. I am mostly speaking on what I have read/heard about him from reports from the VFL. I am pretty sure that someone else who saw more of him could add to this, and compile a better summary.

My rating: 4/10

Hey Teak

This was supposed to be done via the adopt a player. You might be stepping on a few toes with these reviews.

Also giving a guy 4/10 when he played 3 games, Vs Atko that you gave 3.5/10 seems a bit rich. I know we all pretent to be objective, but come on he played 3 games, and scored fewer votes than Atko.

I see your point with the whole giving Atkinson a 3.5/10 and a 4/10 to someone who had less game time, but from reports [Again, I didn't see enough VFL games to make an accurate gauge] it seemed that Daniher was playing very well in the VFL, and considering he was in a forward line with crap delivery, I felt that he had a slightly better year than Atkinson. To be fair Atkinson was in the best towards the end of the year too, but again from reports he wasn't always playing that well.
The problem with rating their year is that not only did I miss a fair bit of their footy, but I am marking each of the players comparatively. So for example, if I gave Ryder an 8, then would it be fair to say that Daniher had half as good a season as Ryder? I really should have gone through the entire list first then marked their year.

I whole heartedly agree. I started these threads to get a bit of discussion about other players going, and offered my thoughts on a player. It is the off-season and the quality of discussion isn't quite as good as during the season.

Anyway, it just occurred to me that I may be stepping on someone else's toes as I rate each of the players, that being the adopter from the the 'adopt a player' thread.

This is what I said in the first thread [Atkinson] and I originally didn't want to solely be the one rating each player. I offered for others to produce threads for players, but I only had 1 reply. I would love to hear other people's thoughts on these players, because I already know my own. So how about I just post the stats from now on, and whoever 'adopted' the player does a write up? Or do you want to just leave it to the 'adopter' to start the thread? If so, apologies to bipolarbeaR [Daniher] and Mad Bomber Sean [Atkinson] for me jumping in on your boys:). And whoever T-bell belongs to.
If you want me to cease and desist from starting these threads, that is no loss for me. But if we do hand over to the 'adopters' could we only have 1 every couple of days to avoid congestion on the main board and to get some good discussion going.

I reckon he's a lot better than most give him credit for.
Can't see him becoming a superstar (he doesn't have any real standout quality), but I think he'll be a nice solid player and he's well ahead of guys like Gumbie & Still.

Not many followed through with the adopt a player.
I asked for the extra discussion so if someone is prepared to do the reviews i do not see why we seem to have a few people commenting about where and when it is done in every review thread.
It is good reading and what the board needs during the slow periods :thumbsu:

Spot on.

For all the I'll take Gumby, I love him talk, few actually 'adopt' their player and keep the rest of us updated with articles and the like.

If we sat around waiting for these posters to do what they requested, we'd be waiting all season; not unlike 2009.

Great reviews, teak.

I rate DD. Definitely adds depth to our list, he must have been close to a game towards the end of the season. I thought his game on Fev wasn't too bad, he provided a contest and denied Fev any use of the corridor. Fev had plenty of shots, but I thought it was a good effort for a 19 year old (at the time) against a Coleman medallist. (Obviously Pears' round 13 was better!:))

Can anyone tell me how old his brothers are?
