Gave the Victorian dream team ruckman an absolute smashing today.

Simmonds resorted to jumping early, blocking and pushing into Jollys body at contests in order to trying and neutralise him, with no effect.

Apart from suggesting it is now obvious Jolly should have featured in the all star game he has also lifted his performance from earlier this season..

While there has been times Jolly has provided distraction to the club and he probably needs a back up ruckman in the team to lesson his load he is among the best ruckman in the competition.

OMG he said the funniest thing to leo barry today both of them were just in front of me and Jolly said 2 Leo "Hey pretty awesome right leo buddy lets shut em down now" I burst out laughing they way he speaks is so funny

Has to deal with big Cox next week, will have his hands full but I think he and Spida can handle him and the Q-tip.
Cox is the premier ruckmen... but Spida and Jolly work so well together.. they're starting to get that chemistry back.. and with both of them sometimes playing together at either end of the ground Cox will have his hands full.. if you can pardon the pun... ;)

Oh yes, there's something about Spida that brings out the best in Jolly. I don't have the stats but I do believe his output is significantly better when the 2 play together.

According to Roosy, Jolly watches the way Spida plays on the field when he's sitting on the bench.

Jolly is a far more complete player these days. He is the most underrated player on or list, and one of the most underrated players in the AFL full stop.

Jolly and Spida are a perfect blend. Experienced. Hard Bodied. Both are accomplished tap ruckmen (an area in which I believe Spida's recruitment helped Jolly no end), both move well around the ground and present dangerously in the forward line. But Jolly has such a strong physique he really is a natural at the bash and crash style of ruck work that our game plan generates so much of. I think he's clearly surpassed Ball now.

I have no doubt that Jolly's improvement over the past season in a bit is partly down to the influence of Everitt. Not just the fact that he no longer has to ruck on his own but Spida's always been very smart in a football sense, even if physically he's no longer the player he once was, and Jolly's become far more than just a crashing, lumbering body.

Fingers crossed that Currie and Orreal will get educational benefits too from being around Spida.

Not sure whether he's surpassed Ball. He is still a different type of ruck. I never thought Ball was that menacing at centre bounces (which I think Jolly's good at) but his guile in ruck contests around the ground was superb. I still don't think we'd see Jolly guiding the ball down to Davis, Buchanan and co the way Ball did during the 2005 finals series (and in the preceding couple of seasons too).

It's been a long time since we brought our own ruckman through the ranks successfully But with the Jolly Spida as mentors, surely now we have the best chance to make that happen?

"We have the technology. We can now build them". :D

I have notice numerous times this season where Jolly has done the whole Jason Ball thing. I loved Balls vision. Brilliant ruckman but as you say ostly around the ground more so than at centre bounces.
Also on Currie, I actually watched him yesterday as opposed to the game he was playing in and he is reasonably quick and quite good at ground level. Any idea on his current weight? I really think if anything happened to Jolly or Spida now he would be the call up. He looked good yesterday.

Jason Ball was a pleasure to watch. A true Swans Hero.

Jolly is doing all the right things and so far really earning his 4 year extension.

Spida was a risky sighning, but as the old saying goes. You cant buy experience!! And our coaching staff had this in the back of their minds.

I think the greatest thing we can benefit from Spida is his football smarts. Roosy was obviously smart enough to know he has 2 possibly 3 good years left in him but he was also looking for someone that could mentor our 'potential' ruckman.. and Spida's smart enough to look beyond his 'playing years'..

So with Spida and with Ball chipping in coaching wise... the ruck division's looking great..:D

jolly has improved every year since coming to sydney
but this year he also seems fitter and more mobile too
and if you take into account ruckmen improving in their late 20s, jolly's still got moer to come, which is a fantastic asset for the swans as we can build around him
think how great it will be for the younger midfielders to know they have a bloke like jolly as the main ruckman for years to come, with younger rucks such as white (more of a key forward), currie and orreal developing at the same time as the young mids
surely has to be a massive bonus for the swans

jolly/everitt will prove very difficult for cox to combat this week

Is Bally still helping around at the club? I thought he'd already be a millionaire working for Macquarie Bank.

He's definitely earning a pretty penny at Mac Bank but he pops in once in a while when he needs to be with the boys and helps out with the ruck division... ;)

He prob wears his GF medal to Swans games and shows it off around the room after the game... :D

I can't believe one of my favourite Sydney player's of all time, is an ex-Eagle. His work at the Swans was just brilliant and we wouldn't have the 2005 flag without him.

Lets' not get too carried away with the form of 'Jolls". He is miles in front.

Gee, I nearly ran off the road during Grand Final week '06 when I heard his comments regarding his unavailability should his wife give birth on the big day.

Strewth, this bloke needed a good ten rounder with Hally to knock him into shape. And then this last pre season, he had the gall to hold the club to ransom.

Give me a break. He is miles in front is our big Daz.

Welcome to Earth. You're using a com-pu-ter:D

I seriously missed the point of your post.

DA and RP13,

I don't doubt you are both bright sparks, but perhaps I should slow down for you both. The point is this.

D. Jolley, try as he may, is still in my view, yet to earn his red and white stripes. Let's not heap too much praise on a bloke who comes from the the G. Stafford school of try hard ruckmans.

Sure, he is doing a job, but please, spare me the plaudits that Cas is heaping on a guy who was prepared to go missing Grand Final week '06.
