The discussion about Blur recently has caused me to pull out my old CDs and have a bit of a listen and as soon as Parklife comes on I'm back in England in that wet summer of 1994. Another song like that is Bittersweet Symphony, that song was the soundtrack to summer '98, and the memories can be quite evocative.
We've all got 'em so share 'em, which songs do this to you.

Take On Me by A-Ha: spring 1985 and my first kiss ;)
Epic by FNM and Bust A Move by Young MC: late 1990, finishing High School
Oh Yeah by Ash and Grooving by Hunting Party: Summer '96-97, finishing Uni, seeing the former live
Paranoid Android by Radiohead : Winter 1997 (just left home)
No Aphrodisiac by The Whitlams : Summer '97-98 (the first lonely summer away from my family and then-GF)

Don't even need the whole song.

This was the first time I saw GnR live, first song they played. I will always remember that.

For some reason the song that 'takes me back' the most consistantly, is that fairly average song 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers...

whenever that rubbish comes on I'm suddenly back at Shotz Nightclub in Adelaide as a 20 year old making out with people I shouldn't be while drinking $1 pots

Here's two into one.

The original 'Life in aNth Town' from 1986 brings back memories of my Year 12 year.

And then in 1998 it was the last song of the night at a club in Edinburgh...the whole song brought the place down and being Aussie we were the toasts of the night.

When I was living on barracks several years ago, the current chart toppers were always getting played somewhere in earshot (lots of young guys playing loud music). Apologize, Beautiful Girls and Pokerface are all definite living-on-base songs for me.

A have a few songs I played a lot around the time I accepted myself and started transitioning (or planning it). Madonna's Live to Tell seems to keep that moment intact the most, along with Filter's Take a Picture. Bjork's Vespertine was also the first album I became acquainted with following that moment, so tend to relate it back to then.

The Presets 'This Boy's in Love' seemed to be played a lot in gyms at the time, so whenever I hear that I think of a gym time in my life.

When I was in high school, I often bought new albums and books at the same time, and listened/read at the same time. No More Shall We Part album by Nick Cave is always reading Watchmen to me.

I think many people would have a 'Hey Ya' singalong with friends moment from the 03/04 summer.

All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix always reminds me of a day it came on the car radio with my brother and played it at full volume singing along (think it was the triple jjj 2009 all-time countdown).

Scream and Shout (Britney Spears - Will.I.Am)

When I finished my last exam of Year 12, I left, got in my car and proceeded to drive away. Flicked the radio to the local station and this song was on. Hadn't heard it before, didn't really like the sound of it as I don't listen to either artist, but turned it up on my drive home. Don't like the song nowadays, but when I hear it, I think of the massive feeling of freedom I had at that moment.

This song was played a heap during first semester of Uni (Sem12012).

Had it blasting a few times driving home with the motto 'sick of edumacations'

This song reminds me of when I first arrived in England, that song was everywhere there back then.

Kind of appropriate since it always bloody rains there.

Why does it always rain on me? Is it because I lied when I was 17?

No it's because you live in the UK you dopey prat.

Not a song but two albums - MGMT's Oracular Spectacular and Kings of Leon's Because of the Times.

Reminds me of living in Ireland in 2007 and 2008. MGMT was to get pumped for a Friday night out, KOL soothed the pain on a Saturday morning and/or afternoon before rolling back into some MGMT for the Saturday night pre drinks.

Good times.

Cold Chisel's Flame Tree reminds me of living out at Bathurst for a year. Probably more poignant for my mates who went to Uni there for anywhere between three and five years but I went out and joined them for a bit - "We shared some history.... this town and I"

Lots of UK memories here. This cover reminds me of my time there in 2001:

The Stereophonics were pretty big there around that time.

This song got a flogging back then too.

As did this song.

Both good songs but I got sick of hearing them.

Crash Test Dummies - MMM - reminds me of riding pushbikes as a 15 year old in the early hours.

That's the only one that comes to mind at present.

Oh wait! Fire Your Guns by AC/DC, favourite track from Razors Edge.

And when I hear 'Slaughtered' by Pantera, transports me into the sheds before the 2005 GF. I played like I was on Death Row, nearly killed a few people that day.

Great thread.

It's not a huge life moment, but for Christmas one year I got the entire Foo Fighters catalogue to that stage and Battlefront 1 for the PS2. I kept replaying Stacked actors so much during my sessions on that game that whenever I hear that song I just picture myself as a Stormtrooper gunning down Rebels on Bespin.

A few songs also remind me of my WoW days, but I can't think of any particular ones at the moment.

Having the time of my life in Boston and NY in July of this year. I'm not a fan of hip-hop but this song brings back the best memories of that trip.

Nothing major, but these songs reminds me of the start of my major clubbing days:
