I think he used to get the yips a lot in his Sydney days, but in Melbourne he proved he is a big-time scorer. I really hope he shines at these Olympics and gets a big deal in Europe or NBA, hed be an awesome 8th or 9th man in the NBA providing energy and a great outside shot with incredible athleticism.

Maybe Im biased as Im a Tigers fan, but he has proved over the last few years he's one of our countries better players, and has now stepped up to our countries elite and I hope he gets rewarded accordingly.

He'll be an important part of the Boomers squad because aside from Barlow we don't really have many players who can light it up from the outside. I remember his game earlier this season where he shot something like 13/13 and 8/8 on threes, something along those lines. Great player, will be fun watching him tonight.

Na i don’t think you are bias because i agree with you that he is a very good scorer but Olympic competition is a big step up from the NBL. Hopefully you are correct (i think he is a tremendous player and love his raw ability) but until he produces that on the big stage he hasn’t taken that next step.

I hope he just rips a game part (hopefully tonight) and just puts on a shooting clinic but that game against Greece at the last WC when he had 3 turnovers in 25 seconds to lose the game will stick in my mind.

I thought he played extremely well in the 2nd half in limited minutes, hit a couple of big 3's a nice lefty lay-up and matched up well on Lebron.

For some reason for very limited minutes in the last quarter.

CJ I’ll pay, Newley is capable but very inconsistent, and I don’t rate Mill’s outside shot although it was an improvement last night.

Barlow was terrific, struggled a tad in the first half but his third quarter showed everyone what he’s capable of. Shot well from the outside and drove inside with confidence. Really like him as a player and I thought he put in a good showing last night and I agree, not sure why he didn’t play much in the last quarter.

Patrick Mills is 19 – his jump shot is pure and has the potential to be Australia best guard ever. In 2 years he will be in the NBA.

As usual crows98 you take things too far. At 19 he's got a heap of time to work on his shot which IMO at this stage isn't that reliable.

And i disagree – IMO it very reliable. Try watching him play a few time and you see how reliable it is. His jump shot is text book - his jump shot is like Darren Jarman kicking a drop punt.

I know he’s not a ball handler but that part of his game is still very weak against quality players. I am not talking about someone like James Harvey or Peter Crawford trying to guard him, we are talking about LeBron James, Andrés Nocioni or Manu Ginóbili.

He is not going to make it into the NBA just as a spot up shooter – he need more parts of his game and ball handling is one small part. He can get away with his crap ball handing in the NBL but not against quality player in the Olympic and if he want to go to Europe or the NBA, he has to improve this part of his game.

I like him as a player but this part of his game worries me every time he get the ball.

I wouldn't call it streakiness,but when he isn't hitting his outside shots he will attack the lanes and try and lay it up or pull up for his 15 foot jumper that he has. he has a very high basketball IQ and obviously knows his game very well, as normally shooters will keep on shootig until they find their touch.

Dave Barlow is an awesome player, one of my favourites in the NBL but i completely agree with this. He can't handle the ball against a press. I went and watched him play in the Big V league against Ringwood a few months ago, and he was bringing the ball upagainst a half court defense, but as soon as they went full court press he made a few turnovers. This is against Ringwood we are talking so as soon as i saw he was bringing it up against USA i thought OH NO, then bang steal and dunk

I don't get this part, Im saying he's not a ball handler and I agree he got the jitters in the 2nd qtr for that very reason, he's not very comfortable doing it. Luckily Goorj saw this and only let 1 turnover happen before he got Patty Mills back on.

I agree wholeheartedly, thats why NBL players only ever come in really as role players if they are to get a gig

If any of our players get there, they'll be there for a reason:
Newley - Athleticism, can hit a 3

Jawaii - Big man, can take fouls and draw double teams

Theyre not going over to be stars, because they wont be but when they get called upon for 5-10 minutes per night they'll be able to do their job.

I still think Barlow would be a decent 8th or 9th man in the NBA because of what he can do and his freakish athleticism, he's 6"9 for christ sakes. Are you telling me he's more valuable to a team than a Ryan Bowen, Kris Humphries, Sasha Pavlovic, Zaza Pachulia, etc.

It all comes down to circumstances, i.e: Gaze getting a title with the Spurs, right time, right place, knew the right people.
