Alwyn Davey, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against Dan Hannebery, Sydney Swans, during the third quarter of the Round 11 match between Essendon and the Sydney Swans, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 9, 2012.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Sydney Swans Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 243.75 demerit points and a two-match sanction.

Deserves the ban. Call me old fashioned but we probably should have received a free kick too.

Hannebery was concussed, there had to have been some head contact, so fck Davey. He turned his body to prepare for contact without even a hint of going for the ball. Had it been Goodes ... gone. I'm not making this an "us versus them" thing, but the Swans and other clubs have had to cop the consequences of such incidents, now it's Davey's turn.

Having said that, how James Kelly didn't get a couple of weeks for his contact with, I think, Toby Green of the Giants the previous weekend is a mystery.

Ignoring the fact it was a Swans player in the firing line, I loved the hit. Beautiful to watch.

It looked fine in real time but he gets a bit of Hanners' head after watching the replay, so I guess under the strictness of the MRP he has to go.

Clear to see from the angle behind Hanners that the shoulder of Davey collects Hanners chin and turns his head before any impact to the shoulder. Was always going to go but as Sanecow said. Didn't even earn a free kick for it.

Having a quick peak over at the Essendon board it is clear to see why their supporters are amongst the biggest whingers in the league. Apparently, shoulder to shoulder contact, all damage done by contact with the ground and completely the fault of Hanners and the doc for being soft.

I saw it on replay about 3 times from one angle and was certain that it was a legal bump, but then they showed the reverse angle and it looked like he got him on the chin. I guess the concussion also suggests it was high.

I hold no ill will against him for it as it obviously was only marginally high but he's gone IMO.

What do you expect from them? They bronx cheer when their getting the best run from the umps, boo Sydney players when lining up for goal (just like Goodesy last year after the siren), and say that Sydney are "cheats" because a fan had a laser beam. Clearly they can't stand losing to a better side on the night and need to find excuses. :)

Not legit if taking the head out. Classified as tough years ago............nowadays classified as p.ssweak act.
Davey needed to tackle him. He chose to hit.
Enjoy your rest Davey.

Yeah was just going to say that! Not even 2 or 3 years ago that would have been a free kick and no more. These days it earns you a holiday.

Really? Apart from 1 or 2 comments in which a poster admitted he was joking i don't see anything wrong with the thread. We were much worse in our defense of Goodes with the slide with Surjan.

off topic a bit, but good to see the mighty Gary Rohan show some old fashion staunchness in regards to his injury. On the radio they were getting stuck into the North player and Rohan rang in.. "Hi its Gary from Cobden" and defended him, right or wrong thats old school class, respect..

Absolutely, the way it should be, happens on the field, leave it there. Meanwhile Betts and Carlton bleating about getting his hand stood on, and Vez, well, on the bench son
