Seems like a late bloomer because of his age, but he's only just past the 100 game mark. If he had been given a run a bit sooner, I think we would have seen this spark in form a few seasons earlier too.

Compare him to Selwood taken in the same draft who has an extra 80 games on him or Gibbs who has an extra 70.

Hard to bloom in the reserves. Ross Lyon gave him hardly any games. He was great when our B team went down to Tassie and won in 09. Watters started him in every available game and he has been gaining experience ever since. With out Lenny he was always likely to get more of a chance to stamp himself on the comp. He has done it really well though.
 
Might be worth having a sneaky bet on him in any market that still includes Fyfe. I can't see Nat getting through this season without suspension, and Armo would be right up there for second in line, perhaps. but will be paying massively.

Chucked $5 on him at $67 a week ago. I reckon a Top 3/5 bet would be a good go as well.

Not sure I understand the reference to rookies though as Lyon was a big user of rookies. Geary was from that era and is still playing. Zac became our full back. Attard was looking good till he got injured. Eddy was a favourite as he could ahere closely to the discipline and workrate that Lyon demanded.

Steven had quite a few injuries early on, and IMO that is the only reason Lyon did not play him more.

Well my guess was that his tank was not big enough as he needed to play outside as he was not going to displace Harvey, Banger or Dal (and they are 3 elit mids). You might recall that Lyon wanted Ball to run and spread more, but at that time his body could not do it.

What we really lacked in team balance back then were the line-breakers. Hence why Lyon wanted Cousins, and then the year later Lovett.

IMO with Armo too a big reason why his season is so good this year is that his run and spread game is at an entirely new and higher level. Each game you see him on the burst, running and carrying and not just playing an inside game.

Yes there is now no Lenny, but Armo has lost weight, and seems to have developeda lot bigger tank. If one believes the "goss" he has given up the partying and recreations that he was rumorored to have enjoyed a little too much.

PS: Armo also had a few injury issues back then too which interupted him.

Undoubtedly the player who has taken the biggest step forward so far in 2015.

Armitage has filled the hole left by Lenny Hayes superbly, averaging 11 more disposals per game compared to last season.

The star Saint has accumulated more disposals than any other player, while he’s also ranked fifth in the competition or clearances and contested possessions.

Only injury — you would think — would stop him from winning All-Australian honours come season’s end.
 
I think it's great that Armo is finally getting some love, but I'm surprised Jack Steven isn't seriously being discussed in the same conversations like the AA team. Statistically he's doing pretty darn well, and he and Armo are both equal first in Fantasy points this year.

Just posted on Twitter before with Armo's rise Jack Steven is going seriously under the radar.

Averaging: 28 disposals, 7 tackles, 7 score involvements, 4 clearances and 6 inside 50s per game this year.

That is at least squad of 40 worthy.
 
If we finish bottom 5 we won't get 2 in the midfield. Stupid but that's the way it is. At the moment Armos been better than Steven so whilst we remain a poor side there's only enough praise for one (n)
 
Good thing we're going to finish 13th then.
