Will he be at Geelong in 2006?

I'm not sure whether he'll be there! With a full strength Geelong side playing, he wouldn't be one of the 22.

Is there a spot next year?

Interesting question. Lucky we have THE ANSWER.

Gone:
McCarthy (Unlucky with injury)
Slade (at least he won't get stalked by Healy any more)
Rahilly (Vale, a good servant of the club, and my favourite palyer a few years back)
Sando (Have fun at the World Cup, you deserve it)
Haynes (Dog, Mackie, Charlie all in your way. Unlucky in my opinion not to have a longer career, but if a marking forward can't crack it at Geelong, he'll struggle)

I would be surprised. Having very little of a go despite good form in the magoos wouldn't be a good sign for him but I guess it depends who is in the queue in front of him to get the flick. He just never quite took his opportunities when they came, for the most part.

I'm a wrap for Dessie but I don't think he has really grabbed his chances, he is a 'bit' player who doesn't really contribute for four quarters or stand up when the game is there to be won. It will be sad for him to go but the fat lady is warming up her tonsils....

Possible departures at season end
Sando - definately
Ricco - possibly
Des
Rahilly
Slade
McCarthy (the arrival of NAblett has meant the end for him)

He's been better than most in the VFL but hasn't been given many chances, so that's probably a fair indication of his future.

Then again, James Rahilly has played 12 games in the past two years yet continues to get another year on the list, so anything's possible.

Although handy, not once has he shown the type of underlying ability that NA23 has in 2 senior games. He is a third tall type like Kent and is probably being kept out by KK. Would be quite happy to swap him for a 2nd/3rd rounder to club of his choice but would perhaps push Carlton as a good option. Would probably suit Bulldogs as well

I think there are 4 similar type players - Steve Johnson, Andrew Mackie, Charlie Gardiner and David Haynes - all vying for the tall half forward flanker spot. Steve Johnson is miles ahead of the other 3, and judging by Saturday Mackie clearly the next in line. Gardiner has had a million chances which Haynes hasn't had, but I'd rather Gardiner. To me Haynes' decision making and disposal just hasn't got any better. Trade him and hopefully pick up a good draft pick.

At 24 years of age, 189cm and 94kg, I think there would be a few teams who's forward lines lack size and strength who would be interested in him. I think he could be traded to another club, possibly for a second rounder. Perhaps a team like the Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Carlton, Collingwood or even Port might be interested in him.

Dessie's dad is a mad bullies supporter and would love him to play for them. Don't think Des believes he's had a good go from Geelong so he'll want to move on next year.

Considering you gave up a second round pick for him and a 4th rounder when he was in good form, you wouldnt think he would be worth a 2nd/3rd rounder by himself after 2 poor yrs.

Trade Bait. Maybe for a genuine up and coming Tall foward or medium forward, our Backline is great although I still don't think we can kick enough goals, Our top forward line at the moment consists of:

Kingsley, N. Ablett, G. Ablett
Mackie, Playfair, Chappy.

Steve Johnson?

I know he's injured so out of consideration but Otto would be a handy inclusion. Let's face it, if they are all fit and raring to go we will get a few goals out of:

Johnson Playfair Kingsley
Chapman N. Ablett Ottens

And nobody is going to trade a 'genuine up and coming tall forward' for an under-performing mid sized forward who has been in the system for five or six years. If we can get an early third rounder for him, I'd be surprised, and I think our priorities should be midfielders and another key defender. Over to you Wells.

I reckon Ricco will push on for one more season, he doesn't really have anything else to do.

There's a pretty good chance that Buckland will get promoted, in which case the latter 4 will all have to go. It's a bit tough on McCarthy, but it doesn't seem as if his shoulders are up to it.

I think we have enough key defenders.

Scarlett, Harley, Mooney, Egan, Spencer. Then you have Lonergan, Playfair, Rooke as options if we get raped by injuries again.

Your right Steve Johnson is a good forward, probably pretty good winger as well. Ottens is probably better off going to the bench and interchanging with King in ruck, therfore probably leaving one spot in the 18 up for grabs and that is probably for a 186-190cm Forward.

I hope the club can manage at least a decent trade for Haynes, who knows, maybe we can pickup a handy player or a 2nd round draft pick that we use for someone who comes good.

Given the quality of the draft (or lack thereof) and our list situation, i can't see us using a heap of draft picks.

We'll either use our first three picks then pass, or trade a couple of fringe players for draft picks, and then pull out of the draft after the second round.

We won't see another 1999 or 2001 this year.

Unlikely to go for a player, if we pick up a player we have to delist an additional player to the ones already mentioned - or not promote Buckland.
