how has daves pre season gone, interested to know if he has built up, if he has he could well be a very important player for freo this season?

I've dropped into training a couple of times. He certainly looks to have put on a couple of kgs - as do all the guys from the 2002/2003 drafts... must be at the right age for it.
A lot of the young guys look to be working really hard on the track - next week is the main intra-club match at Subi; I guess the pecking order for possies will start to take more shape after that. No doubt young david will be pushing very hard to maintain his place in our 22. Hope so - I reckon he's a gun.

i know david, played junior footy with him, he will turn into a gun and freo are a very lucky team to have david. he would be better used up foward though, only mistake by the draft system was they turned him into a defender his natural game is foward. kicked a huge amount of goals all through junior footy!

You are quite likely right - but Freo have played both Pav and McPharlin down back before switching them up forward, so just because he's playing as a defender now, doesn't necessarily mean that's where he'll stay. I just hope he stays at Freo for his whole career (signed till 2008! :thumbsu: ).

In Junior footy all the really good players tend to play as forwards because they stand out in junior teams. At the Dockers we have McPharlin, Pavlich, Hayden, Polak, Mundy, Murphy, Campbell et al who all played their junior footy as forwards. I think even Robbie Hadrill played forward in his junior days.

But once drafted it is (to pardon the pun) another league in terms of difficulty in kicking goals, and so it is not unusual for young players to get blooded in the backline. I think this list include Neitz, Scotty Lucas, Jarrad Waite, Bradshaw, Robert Murphy and Kenny MacGregor.

It should be noted Mundy played off the HFF in his first game against Melbourne and was half the reason McPharlin kicked so many. Might be interesting to see if he gets moved further forward now that our backline won't be so full of holes.

I reckon he might play CHB - I know he is a bit small at 191cm, but I reckon they have been grooming him for it for a while (Played CHB in the Premiership Subiaco side), and his reading of the play and defensive skills seems really good.

On the otherhand, whats his snap-shots at goal like? - I have no problem him looking and playing like Hird from a HFF. :)

I'd love to see him up half forward and getting rotated through the midfield occasionally. He inflicted some real damage in the midfield against the demons. He has the goal to goal mentality that really was the turning point in the clubs new game style.

They will do a Mckenna with him and give him the weakest forward(if there is such athing) so he can be the link man. Champion in the making - has poise and balance under pressure this natural can't be learnt.
