Okay previous posts aside, assuming David Teague won't be coaching us next year (alas i feat is the most likely scenario) what are you/everyone's expectations for our performance next season and how long a period of grace our new coach gets?

Seems to me that coaching this footy club post Parko/Brittain era has become somewhat of an albatross.

Assuming Teague goes, I still think we should go for an Adem Yze type of untried assistant who has been in several successful clubs/systems as an assistant. Recycled Coaches rarely bring success to their new club.

Definitely in the conversation.

Coaching pedigree is critical and he has that in spades.

Club has kinda backed itself into a corner with the training wheels comment. Can’t see us going untried again

I like to see us try a Roos Goodwin type of arrangement.

Ross Lyons 3 Years then Senior Assistant (not sure who) steps up after that.

For God's sake, no Clarkson or Ross Lyon.

I think Ken Hinkley is a dark horse tbh (as much as I wouldn't be happy with that appointment, If the club (unwisely) decides to go down the experienced coach path, Hinkley strikes me as the type this current admin would target.

As I said we have put ourselves in our corner with the training wheel comment. It will be Lyon, Voss (or another former) or poaching a head coach from another club - clarko, Hinkley etc

Didn't stop them from appointing Teague AFTER Judd made those comments, I'm not sure why those comments would come into play for the next appointment.

I would say they are more likely to go for an experienced coach purely because they wouldn't want to go down that track a third successive time.

The club was very keen on Don Pyke before he rejected us to take on the vacant Crows job (after the tragic death of Phil Walsh)

Teague will be fine in my opinion. The current situation will probably see changes in the coaching group makeup and structure.

There is probably a bunch of stuff the club aren't telling us (and will never tell us) too.

Interesting to note that Neil Craig was Director of Coaching in 2016-17 (he left towards the end of 2017). We know what happened in 2018-19.

Seems like a director of coaching with previous senior coaching experience ( and success!) makes a big difference. Perhaps what Teague is missing and never had? Why not try and get someone on board now? Someone who is at the club full/part time and sits in the box on match day.
Maybe Ross would do it...

Imo it’s to late for Teague. He’s been found out tactically inefficient and his game plan isn’t practical, yet he hasn’t changed anything and refuses to change anything.
Time to cut our losses, and support the next head coach with a DOC

This is the most common sense approach for us. We need a young coach for the long term but also need an older experienced head to ensure stability over the initial few years.

A Lyons type as the senior head is what we need right now. Can’t risk losing this current batch of talented players.

If a coach has lost the players, or quite simply isn't up to the job - it can turn almost instantly.

In 1977 we were average under Thorogood. In 1978 we were 1 and 5 under Ian Stewart and then Serge standing in. As soon as Jezza took over we started winning - went 13 and 3 for the rest of the year and made finals. Flag the next year.

Walls could obviously coach, but had lost the players in 1989 - sacked at 2 and 8. Under Jezza (again) we only lost 4 more games for the year, with a side that really wasn't that good.

If the general expectation was to make finals this year, then we absolutely should expect to make them next year, regardless of who is coaching.

Teague finally admitted the players have no idea what the game plan or zone defence is. Unbelievable to think a coach after two years would admit this.

I haven't really made a conclusion as to whether Teague should stay or not. But my simple question is, what are his absolute strengths that should see him continue on? Doesn't appear to be tactics. Not sure it's player development. And not sure it's getting the players to play with any accountability, sense of team and ferocity. Doesn't leave too much else.

Don't get me wrong...if he has something to work with, I'd be happy to see him stay with a better tyeam around him. Just not sure.

Reading tealeaves sure looks like a picture of Rossy I'm seeing.

After 2 rookie fails it stands to reason next coach will be experienced

I don't mind Lyon. He innovated at the Saints.
I do. So much. But I have to get over that. I'm not giving away my team over a coach. Gonna hope he has learnt from past mistakes. I'm a believer that we can and do change our spots over time. Hated every minute Malthouse was coach. I'm determined to support whoever coaches us next as I have David. Also.
A lot more desperate now after so long in the desert.
So so thirsty.
We need water. We are withering on the vine.
Plus ...cheats being everything we were supposed to be
Great assistant coaches and I guess Rutten must be bloody great too.
Pretty much open to anything right now.

I think the bombers are in a purple patch.. Like we had I think I 2016.

Don't blame me when we see the same group of players play hot and cold/underacheive next season under a new coach.

I stand by my opinion to the hilt that our list is overrated and a change of coach is not going to make us contenders

I won't blame you, but I'm not unequivocally stating that we will contend next year under a different coach.

I believe the talent is on the list but both a sustainable game plan and the intangibles are currently missing.

Fix the former and the latter will start to emerge.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect it.

****, I shared it until 4-5 weeks ago...but the performances over the last month are unacceptable. The sense of inevitability attached to our losses to bottom half of the eight sides and the rabbit in the headlights approach from our coaching staff make heir positions untenable.

Change the coaching team, get an actual gameplan and watch this team grow. it won't be linear and it may well fall short but we are going nowhere but backwards right now.
