The club has got a lot wrong and come end of the year it’s decision for Teague

they can’t let him go into next year with one year on his contract , that would be a disaster ! The media will attack him and they won’t give the luxury Buckley gets in the media

so they extend his contract for 3 years with new assistants or they let him go

this playing group is already mentally fragile and the window for success is very short ,

A very fresh start is needed and right decisions need to be made my club ( which I don’t trust to be honest ) or we enter oblivion again !!

I tend to agree here. They cant hedge their bets, need to fully back him or make the change.

Next 10weeks they need to put the acid on the coaching group and players. Trial new game styles, play the list and set us up for 2022.

The template was sydney last year, who changed their way of playing post bye.

The problem is that Liddle is on a membership drive until June 30th cut off, so theyll be reluctant to do anything prior, that upsets that story...

any family cats or dogs that Liddle signs up at this late stage on the back of us playing finals haven't been paying attention!

Teague has to read the tea leaves, if he finishes off the final 11 rounds giving the kids a chance and we see improvement albeit a 1 year extension could be considered. He can't play to save his job and rely/have-faith on the typicals who are part of his undoing.

If I was him during the bye I'd put together a plan in conjunctions with football manager etc and present it to the board. As a board and members we can't show blind faith on everything, but he has to prove if not by results why he's the coach.

Too many cooks spoil the broth, sometimes less is more. They make coaching way harder than it has has to be.
Over coached and too many mixed messages.
I don't think it's working at most clubs, especially ours. Too much time spent in separate groups might be causing enmity between def/mid or mid/fwd.
Maybe we should be looking at downsizing and not replacing these assistants.
I watch our defenders sometimes and it's baffling the way they play the fwd press, we need to have a hard look at the way we defend.
My view would be to either drop back the May/Lever do, or have touch on them, our guys guard space 10-15m off their man and get burnt on a turnover too often. We don't play to our strengths, we can't spread we are too slow, why play a wide boundary gameplan which leaves us isolated? It's not our go and we can't get numbers too the ball. We need another way or Teague might as well go now.
I fully expected us to do a Melbourne next year but things have to change, it isn't just injuries.
Also Russell should be on notice. That experiment might have failed, but hey when you recruit injury prone players; should it surprise us they get injured?

Only problem with that , the assistant coaches know they are are on the way out and that’s also not helping with morale at the club

there are a lot of rumblings and the explosion is coming ...

Still needs a good mentor (like a N.Craig type) that he can consult with when the going gets tougher (like now) I feel...

Last week he was talking about 'Cats and Mice' - he's finally got it that its about Coach vrs Coach - Hallelujah!!

Training wheels.

Game Plan Game Plan. Were gonna kick more Goals than you is not a game plan.

DT should start coaching from the boundary..see things first hand on how terrible we are. Give the spray in front of the players face and not behind a stupid headset.

never seen him give any emotion .... 5 +++ goals in a row against the Blues... & he is stoned face ... sort of reflects the team !!!!!!

And let John(haha I can’t believe i still have a job) barker tell him what he is seeing from the box ??
Now that would be hilarious ...

I think they call that the blind leading the blind !!

What's the relevance of his demeanour in the box and what possible effect could it have on the team on the day? Do you think they'd even be aware of what's happening in the coaches box? If we had a Clarkson punching holes in the wall during a game we'd be criticising him too. At the end of the day none of this is really relevant.

So you would rather he lose his shite and composure, by smashing a phone or a fist through a plaster wall? It makes sense,

honestly wouldn’t mind at least seeing a phone slam ... when for 25x time the opposition slams on 5+ goals and the Blues lose another game from a winnable position

all I see coming from the coaches box is a stone faced statute!!

Hardwick was destroying Richmond for years according to their supporters.

Buckley was a complete dud until suddenly they were in a Grand Final (supporters might have been on the money here though).

Goodwin was taking Melbourne nowhere, supporters virtually united in wanting him sacked.

Hinkley has been pilloried for years and years by Port supporters.

Teague needs to embrace his own development and actively seek to change things up. I agree that coaching from the boundary is a start. So many other coaches do it, Teague should at least give it a try, if nothing else it should make him a more well-rounded coach giving him a new perspective.

As an outsider I think Teague's biggest strength is his relationship with the players. Has he jeopardised that by playing favourites with McGovern etc? I hope not, because I think that basic level of trust is a very sound foundation to build from. He doesn't show much emotion in the box imo because that's part of his messaging to the players, try and remain level-headed and focused on the task at hand.

If Teague can add more layers to his coaching in the next couple of seasons I can really see it working for him - he does however need a couple of "headkicker" assistants, particularly someone who is insistent on making the hard calls on a Thursday night (eg. Playing Murphy in the VFL; putting the heat on Pitto and getting creative with the second ruck situation etc).

Sacking Teague will fix nothing imo, but I do think he needs to take ownership over improving himself (with further support from the club).

I believe unless we see some improvement the 2nd half of the season, Teague's position along with a host of other roles would need to be reviewed.

The game plan is flawed, their is a ongoing inability of playing consistently good footy, a inability to develop and evolve players on the list.
An overall review is required later in the year it is also concerning that the players recruited have on high pay scales have not been able to reach expected levels for a mix of reasons which is taking up salary cap space.
But from the outside, we may need a coach with a harder edge to take them to the next level.

Teaugy needs time to evolve as a good Coach but will the club and supporters afford him the opportunity ? he needs 3 to maybe 5 years to gain more sophistication and a strong game plan & sort out appropriate team of support coaches to reach what we all expect another shot at a flag, David doesn’t possess too much charisma either, but we could live with that as long the team evolves and achieves more success.

List doesn't have that long bmaurizio

Carrying Teague for 3-5 years to learn how to coach, over the careers of Cripps, Docherty, Plowman, Martin, Saad, Williams..
Would be absolutely ludicrous and would never happen, would mean the failure of the rebuild and our trading philosophy.

Judd a spokesman for the club said we wanted a coach without training wheels..
Yet we now have a coach with the biggest training wheels on in the league.

Would take something drastic in the second half of the year for Teague to get the sack...

Teague will be head coach next year and more than likely given his choice of assistants..
But if we miss finals again next year it will be curtains for him..

You won’t get great assistants coaches if they don’t extend Teague for at least 2
Or 3 years and years at the end of the season and no way you will get any assistants , if they want Teague to see out his final contract next year
Hence the important decisions need to be made in the coming weeks for preparation for next year

Struggling to decipher your post - we won't be able to hire good assistants if we do or don't extend and/or show faith in Teague?

Why? An aspiring coach might see it as an opportunity in the long term and a significant chance to impact short term growth ala Don Pyke. There are more good operators than jobs available, we have to aggressively target them. Yze might be a start.

Disagree - rather see a coach keeps his composure and coach. Smashing a phone does nothing (except break the phone).

By all means unload on the players at breaks but need to keep your head in the box.

I have no idea why you would coach from the bench. I’m sitting right next to the bench and I have no idea how you could determine patterns of the game and make decisions accordingly from here.

He doesnt have 3-5years.

Club is on record as time is now.

He has the back end of this year to get this team humming. If I was in his position Id be trying to get some of the kids rolling and performing.

Longmire totally changed the way the Swans went about it mid last year, and look where they are now
