There is no excuse for the performance difference beaten 2019 H1 Bolton and H2 Teague other than the coach.

Teague managed a few close score wins whilst Bolton copped a few close score losses - the W/L ratio was a huge improvement - the F/A percentage change didn't budge much in stats.

Bolton had 2 losses by less than 2 goals. So did Teague, although Cripps and Charlie were missing in one of them.

Teague had 3 wins by less than 2 goals (Freo without Cripps and Charlie injured early, and Swans and Saints which were both more comfortable then the scoreboard showed).

How long have you been a Carlton member?
Strange question; long as I can remember. The benefit of a Blues supporting family I guess.

So, are you lost?

Bolts was mentally shot last year- it didn't help that he knew the knives were out - stinking rotten position to be in. He'll take over from Clarkson at Hawthorn.

0% chance of that, Sam Mitchell will be their next coach.

It was clear by the teams performance he had lost the non leadership players. They're important too. I posted about my conversation with an ex player in the bluemour file circa Dec 2018 where said player discussed a game plan that wasn't understood, unrealistic expectations, favouritism and tirades. This is all a sign of a bad coach. Proof was in the pudding. I can't believe people are finding excuses for Bolton's morale destroying 'leadership' while at the coaching helm.

Too many folks are looking at Bolts through rose coloured glasses. Sometimes the truth hurts.

When given the full reigns from 2018 onwards, after Neil Craig left, our team totally and utterly fell apart, culminating in the what I consider the worst Carlton performance of my lifetime (round 9 2019 against GWS). That was a performance of a team that was absolutely headless and leaderless.

Keeping Bolton any longer would have done irreparable damage. The difference between our old and current coach is night and day.

Lastly I am sure Bolts is a genuinely nice fella, and I was hoping he would succeed. But let's be real, he himself was a massive part of the problem in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

would be an interesting exercise for the hindsight specialists to ask the players what they thought of bolton's influence on their careers.........the smug revisionism is nauseating............

Really glad I somehow chose to read this post.
On the strength of this 'argument' anyone that has a considered view that is contrary to the poster, is somehow smug and nauseating? Same old.
We had players humiliated thanks to Bolton and players that were sick of his ways...and that's just the players.

No one will get hurt in discussing these points/views. It's all over, so no need to jump in with the protective shield just to be seen to be good.
Not all superheroes need to wear capes :)

Are you a 20+ year Carlton member? I am.
Okie dokie, I think you can forgive some confusion though when your AFL Club bit says otherwise.

Yeah I call bulldust. Anyway it's footy, for anything we think we get "right", there's probably gonna be a bunch of other things we get wrong.

The smug and arrogant revisionism really is unnecessary.

....and the "sliding doors" moment for Bolton's tenure probably hinged on Doc's first knee. The second knee was just the nail in the coffin. This is just one (pretty big) thing amongst many other factors.

I love Teague and everything about him but this apparent need to trash talk Bolts is inane. There were MANY factors that contributed to excess difficulties for him to get the team up and running - many of them out of his control. Can we not be gracious?

All our coaches have had bad luck with injuries- Ratts in his final year for example. Our lack of depth has exposed us.
