This is the text from a Herald Sun article.

It is jarring to see our selections written out like that. It really highlights our selection biases and/or our development.

It’s pathetic to be honest, even if we start winning a few games, it’s a false positive, it’s on the back of older players who probably won’t be there for our next flag tilt. That article makes me really angry.

What does the club think Dow, Stocker, O’brien, Setterfield, Philp will do if they aren’t getting a game? They will leave

SOS selections. If we don't develop them, we can call his tenure a failure? [/Conspiracy Theory]

Interesting views from Malcom Blight today, over simplification but if you take a player in the top 50 they can play at an AFL level if they don't its a development and/or coaching failure.

Teague or any other coach is in a no win situation with the fans of this club? Is the goal to develop kids and or win games ? Because I am yet to be convinced that both can go hand in hand (least at our club)

Over the last week I've heard alot of the same argument on here, radio, media etc

That is "were playing these young kids out of position" "sps was drafted as a mid" etc

Honestly I don't know what everyone expects of Teague in this regard.

We drafted and traded for an absolute glut of mids over the last 4 or 5 years... some of them developing or being re-deployed in different positions was always going to have to happen.

All of SPS, Dow, Setters, Fisher, Stocker, Kennedy, Fogarty, Cunningham, Gibbons cant all be starting mids.

Its simply not possible.

Club has to play the best starting midfielder first.

Cripps and Walsh are no brainers.

We brought Williams in to play mid too.

If any of the 9 I listed above want midfield minutes they need to go past Ed Curnow.

Other wise they need to play other positions with a few midfield rotations.

We've also got Philp, Cottrell, Ramsay, Kemp, Carroll who could develop into mids.

Not all are going to get the opportunity to play mid. Have to develop else where or get a new role.

And to be honest a good mid should have the ability to play in other positions.

Thats why this "just play the kids in the position they were drafted" argument is doing my head in... everyone wants to put someone into the midfield.. but won't list who should come out. Walsh? Cripps? Williams? It's just not that simple.

one or the other - but we have been in a horrible no man's land - not winning enough games AND failing to develop the kids

At this stage, I am in the prefer to develop the Kids camp, however the board and an (probably right) impatient fanbase wants finals action.

Its an uncomfortable rut the club currently finds itself it, I certainly do not want to go down the path of St Kilda and keep on topping up with recycled players at the expense of youth (think they fielded the 2nd oldest team age wise last round)

maybe Teague compromised himself too much as caretaker when he selected senior players to win games and got them publicly onboard the Teague train - effectively it forced the club's hand to select him as senior coach, now the course is difficult to alter.

It's not the best situation to be in, but its fixable, if the footy gods let us get some semblance of our best 22, I think we can push for finals.

Williams could certainly be a huge asset too, hopefully he just needs to get some continuity and build up his tank and we haven't recruited an $800,000 HFB to play midfield.

King being in, will make a big difference and Fish, Martin, JSOS, Newman, not expecting miracles from Kemp and Charlie would be nice for sure, but wait and see with him.

Players expect to play finals too, Docherty on SEN 15 March saying so.

I doubt we'll go down the Saints path, just need to fix the poor development ASAP and get some hard nosed integrity of selection, no more favorites non-sense etc.

That pressure stat is damming. It’s totally unacceptable.

It’s Partly coaching related, partly selection related, partly player related.

We Need to prioritise a minimum level of pressure otherwise you don’t get a game but coaching needs to adapt to make it easier for players to implement.
Thing is this something that Teague was emphasising before he became coach as the forwards coach .
We made improvements in this area last year under his coaching back to terrible again this year .
Its basic football these days you need to pressure your opposition into turnovers if you can't your pushing the proverbial uphill .

Dropping Murphy is a massive statement that needs to happen imo. He has had one good game IMO out of 5 so far this season.

Still plenty of games left to get him to 300 games, but I do fear he is being carried to that milestone, which does compromise the selection and match committee (and Teague)

Sadly, it wouldn’t be a massive statement. Just something that 17 other clubs would do for any underperforming player over several games.

Fantastic news, exactly the sort of experienced senior person that Teague needs beside him.

Worsfold is a tactical minnow....who won a premiership 15 years ago....and was washed up at Essendon....I would take Ross Lyon or Brad Scott before Worsfold

Ross Lyon has probably too much baggage on his hands with how he exited Freo (and that inappropriate joke he made about a pregnant staff member at a Christmas Party)

Actually got the fortune to meet Woosha once when he was an assistant to us first time around, a really terrific and friendly guy. And one of the most fearless and toughest players I have ever seen play (my fondest and clearest memories of footy is from the 90sl

If he can help instill some of his legendary toughness as a player into our boys and Teague, I am all for all it.

Neil Craig was a good mentor for Bolts when he was here, fingers crossed Woosha can do the same.

You talking baggage about Woosha the chemist

....and if either of those two had been appointed there would have been someone else you would have taken before them. This is how this game works, right?

Edit: By the way , when did Lyon or Scott coach their teams to a premiership?

How anyone can think Worsfold is washed up based on his stint at Essendon is fairly ridiculous. The politics, distractions, divides, unavailable players etc he had to deal with. Unbelievably difficult. I've got fair respect for him. I thought they performed on field far better than they should have and attribute that largely to him.

I find it interesting that DT never seems to directly address why he persists with playing blokes out of position when asked. It’s not like it’s not in virtually every article written, or TV analysis about Carlton or asked at press conferences. There’s no way he hasn’t heard the criticism but doesn’t ever seem to address it or explain his thought process as to why he persists with things that to most of us don’t appear to be working (e.g. SPS as a defender).

Was going to mention that last line, well done

His comment last week before the Port game conceding that we "may not get the result" was pretty concerning.
You'd hope the players didn't go in with that mentality too.

You go on the footy field, it doesn't matter who you are up against. It's you blokes versus a bunch of other blokes, you give your all and harass the opposition, and on any given day you can top an elite team even if you're a team of battlers. Never ever go into a game thinking you can't win.

Woosha knows what a good coaching system is like. He won a flag and also engineered one of the most impressive quick rebuilds in history.

I’m happy to have him as a consultant, so long as he isn’t getting his beak in to match day and training.
