What will it take to get John Barker out of this club? For heaven's sake. Now the assistant of stoppages, which absolutely sucks. Every line he has ever been in charge of always stinks.

Current coaching team:

- David Teague (I would keep)
- John Barker (absolutely must go)
- Cameron Bruce (I dunno)
- Dale Amos (keep)
- Brent Stanton (out the door)
- Luke Power (keep)

A legitimate senior assistant is sorely needed. See Sydney with Don Pyke and Melbourne with Choco Williams.

Don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but a shake up is needed.

Spot on here.

Teague's shown some good signs imo...but with COVID meaning we lost a bunch of coaches, seems like things have gone pear shaped...makes having good assistants even more important.

He needs better assistants, as you said a GOOD senior assistant to replace Barker should be priority #1 and could make a huge difference like those 2 teams you mentioned. They could also fulfil the role we're paying Worsfold for.

Mind boggling that this was the plan with Cunners for Lever .
His disposal has been sublime through the midfield last few weeks building beatifully .
Even his 12 possession game against the dogs had impact .
So what does Teague do attemt to put the clamps on him .
Have no doubt because Setterfield was back and he cant perform anywhere but inside mid Cunners was pushed forward .
Looking like we'll have serious problems advancing too far under Teague and this MC .
Not mind boggling at all.

Actually could see plenty of merit in it.

Why would you put a clearly creative player a player whose skillset we have very few into a negating role in our forwardline ? .
And has just started to look at home through the midfield its nonsensical .
I agree we needed to plan for Lever but you use a lock down more defensive player in that role not Cuningham imo .

Teague is out of his depth, but when is the accountability going to start with that clown of a CEO we have, obsessed with selling fake memberships and pumping up our numbers, hires a puppet as football boss, fires Bolton but keeps basically all his assistants, does not get a senior assistant when most clubs are doing so, sacks SOS because he wouldn't be a yes man, so he gets another mate a job as List Boss who goes on to give a half back flanker 6 years at 800k.

**** Cain Liddle, I don't care what anyone says.

Accountable and lock down are two different things. No reason Cuningham couldn't have played an accountable role and still had offensive impact.

Lever plays an unnacountable role...he does it well of course, but Cuningham has (had) obvious ability to run off him from contests. If anything minding Lever would have seen him in the play more...which we'd all like to see.

Not sure I'd have gone with it...but not mind boggling.

Many of our players only come unboxed with the unaccountable option.

Nah given what weve seen of how Cunners had been playing through the midfield of recent games i'll stick with mind boggling.
Its certainly not the first time Cunners had played good footy in the middle then immediately been pushed forward next game and had little impact .
I'll agree to disagree 👍

making Lever accountable is the best way of pulling him out of the hole..

Confident in predicting we won't have Clarko as coach. Most members with a memory won't have it. Think Teague will be given until end of year, then assess. We had better be seriously pursuing assistants though. Barker and Stanton cannot stay!

Busy recruiting Leppa and planning Juddchella 3.0 I'd say.

Clearly using the MLG poaching playbook (sarcasm).

I mean seriously, what a shambles. Judd approaching Leppa for a board role. What happened to the independent nominations committee

Leppitsch ? On the Carlton board ? Cheers bro I needed a laugh 🤣

Wahh...
I'm leaving if we get Clarkson

Wahh...
Clarkson has only ever won 4 flags in the past 15 years and his former assistants have only won another 5...

Go Teague!!!

OPINION: Don't actually think Clarkson is coming here :tongueoutv1:

Even if Clarkson were to come here, no way will be coach us to a flag, it's fairly obvious the game has gone past him by.

This whole Messiah coaching figure nonsense has not worked for us in decades.

More depends on whether we are a serious football club or not. We can't be sacking coaches every two years without giving them a chance.

You do realise he has been coach for less than two years? That he was faced with his first year of coaching, 2020, being a write-off as far as being able to get any development into players? All this faced by a rookie coach?

He has coached in 36 games for 16 wins and 20 losses, previous to that we had won 3 games from 33 matches, exactly what sort of KPIs would you expect him to be set on that score. Improvement? Well, there's clearly been a big improvement on that score. We aren't getting smashed by anyone, we are in games against the top teams right down to the wire, exactly what 'reasonable' standards would you expect? How are you not seeing an improvement from one year to the next?

Good football clubs don't go changing their senior coach at the drop of a hat. Nor are they affected by the uninformed outside noise.

Yeah there does, I can see we have been working on an attacking game plan which is great. Get some better kicks and ball winners in the middle and some better forwards up there like Curnow and we should be able to score heavily against all sides with that game plan. It's when we are up late in games by 4-8 goals that the problem starts.

You can't keep playing attacking footy the whole game, no team has the energy for that and you need to be able to lock down and defend yourself back into the game when the opposition get in front and get a run on.

It's this game where we need to work on. To stop opposition getting a run on and manufacture a steady comeback and to protect a solid lead when we build one.

We have the defence for that however our midfield is too lose and open. The call needs to come from the coach or the players on the field to lock it up. That doesn't mean no scoring, it mean possession footy which means good kicking and it means creating contests and ball ups which means numbers to the contest and good tackling.

I think Teague has plan A worked out but hasn't got the quality of team to really cash in on it. We don't have plan B worked out where we can really lock a game down and waste time and keep our scoring going while shutting the scoring down at the other end.

Maybe we are going it one step at a time and we will work on our locking down as the season goes on. I hope so. I just feel we need to find some players to execute things better.

To win a premiership you need to have a solid attacking game plan and a solid defensive one not just one game plan the whole time and at this stage you are right we only have one of those.

We have an offence that is potentially competition leading with CC back, Mitch as 3rd, even Kemp in there. Our defence can hold its own as long as it has midfield support.
We need more super fit/fast and smart midfielders : Cripps gets a pass as he is so good dishing it out- but he is no runner. Luckily we have ed and Walsh that can run all day. But then what?

Bolton was doing wonders with our youth - he was amazing and they were absolutely starring - enter Teague and he is straight up killing these kids. Its so damned hard to watch.

The manner in which he does it as well - offering what is literally belittling roles as subs, one week in then straight out, and when they do get a chance - back line. Meanwhile players who are not performing AT ALL are given endless games without question. And worst of all - senior players not having to perform AT ALL in the VFL. Just straight in.

Its quite gross.

That said - the idea of the players dictating the direction of our club is not on. Its not on anywhere I have been - and if Cripps wants to preside over the determination of a second coach - then honestly he can leave.

We need to bring in someone who can work with the kids and tell Teague to pull his head in and change his approach to the kids - in my mind this is the most critical issue long term.

Losing players next year would be the worst possible outcome of anything - Essendon comparison would be all over the media, Teague would HAVE to go.
I’m sick of writing negative things about my club, but this is absolutely SPOT ON.
I don’t know how our young players are supposed to find their rhythm with players like Setters just being slotted straight back into the side after even poorer VFL form.

Also sick of the ‘play on at all costs’ mentality which is obviously our game plan. Moving the ball fast is great, but if you don’t have the vision to honor leads or skills to hit targets, then the turnovers are what is to be expected. And also why Liam Jones is being crucified for not being back in the square whilst Weitering is up at half forward.

You can’t play a Hawthorn style of football without poise or foot skills.

I agree he excelled in a contested game plan which has now moved on to a faster game. He’s outdated imo.

if we were to move on from Teague we need someone who is first and foremost a strategist - Justin Longmuir would have been great, caracella another - although not sure if Caracalla is head coach material or just a good assistant

Why is is it putting the clamps on him to play him against the best?

I thought that's what players would desire, to be tested against the best. A few years ago a Golf Major was a somewhat hollow victory if Tiger wasn't in the field.

May not have worked and we may have had to move him but to say that a plan that was unable to materialise is "mind boggling" is just mischievous.

Well you're right he certainly had little impact on Sunday. ;)
