Why is is it putting the clamps on him to play him against the best?

I thought that's what players would desire, to be tested against the best. A few years ago a Golf Major was a somewhat hollow victory if Tiger wasn't in the field.

May not have worked and we may have had to move him but to say that a plan that was unable to materialise is "mind boggling" is just mischievous.
Suit yourself its a personal opinion dont really care how you perceive it .
Imo we already know Teague puts players in non preferred positions that dont bring out there best attributes .
The Cuningham intended role just another example .
Cunners coming off his most productive period as a mid yet then trying what i call an experiment is trying to put a square peg in a round hole type stuff .
And maybe another example of why some of our young players are still struggling .

I agree he excelled in a contested game plan which has now moved on to a faster game. He’s outdated imo.

if we were to move on from Teague we need someone who is first and foremost a strategist - Justin Longmuir would have been great, caracella another - although not sure if Caracalla is head coach material or just a good assistant

Or, Hawthorn is at the low point of a full rebuild?

Which could it be I wonder........

Good call - Eddie Betts to ruck.

Which of our forwards would you have suggested we try to get matched up on Lever instead?

?
I'm saying that's about what it would take to dislodge Barker. Gross incompetence doesn't seem to matter in the slightest, but that's something even Teflon/pictures/etc can't resist.
I have no idea what that means.

I do not understand how AFL coaches continually sit in their boxes during the game, and are not on the bench with the players. Isn't that why every other football league on the PLANET has assistant coaches in the "box". And to watch Teague raise his eyebrows, mutter something, and look completely inept in the coaches box infuriates me.
Officially off the Teague train, but don't want the likes of Lyon as coach next year, want Voss, the man who I originally wanted as our coach. Brings a bit of campaigner to the picture.
I was pretty surprised when Ben Rutten was universally slammed for sitting on the bench in rd 1 for the reasons you give.

The most tactical sports in the world have the head coaches on the field, NFL and Football. They trust their assistants up in the booth to spot tactical issues from a birds eye and relay it to the coach on field who if need be can directly communicate with the players.

There's nothing wrong with it. I think we're a bit backwards immature with this as a code.

Yeah, na....
Teague is all about positivity, support. The reality is about honesty.
All last week all we heard about was "Cripps, nothing to see here"; today the club comes out with the truth, injured and needled.
We have become a soft team, see Mick's positive carlton story in the Hun, bruise free, not my team.
Voss is the epitimy of agression, toughness, power over pansy.
It is what is needed, we need to stand for something, this mob stand for nothing......
I've said it before and will probably say it again. I wanted Voss, but did get caught up in the Teague train hype admittedly.. but in hindsight now think my first opinion was right. I think I've come round again..

Why didn't those traits work for Voss first time around?
He was a very young (only 33!) and inexperienced coach thrown into one of the biggest dumpster fires the game has seen with little support. The same happened to Leppitsch righ after.

I would suggest the MC got the sub selection wrong, the third smallest player on the list...

Absolutely crazy. While Newnes should also have been dropped, he's more versatile and in better form than Gibbo.
That's if we wanted an experienced player. Honey could have provided some spark.

Both those sports are on a much smaller ground therefore the coach is closer to the action and, in the case of the NFL, half the team is off the ground at any given time isn't it? Coach gets a half time address every time the ball turns over.

Not saying it's right or wrong to be on the bench but many only seem to venture down there towards the end of quarters.

Leppa has been offered Judd’s spot on the board, while Brad Lloyd approached Leppa to be our senior assistant to Teague.

why can’t he do both?
Having someone simultaneously be your subordinate and your boss would be an interesting dynamic for Teague. Good way to keep him on his toes.

Cupboard is pretty bare but none of them would have shifted Parks forward .
May have had a two fold effect of shutting Lever down and Parks actually showing our small forwards as a group the example of desperation and tackling intent .
Taking the creativity of Cuningham and his kicking skills away from the midfield when that midfield is lacking polish is a fools move imo .
Especially as he was clearly growing into his mid time .
Not that he wouldnt have had mid time as some stage if not going down .
As it stood after Cunners went down Owies was then matched up on Lever for a considerable time doubling down on the stupidity of the MC . .

I actually think he's been serviceable...but he's definitely not a first ruck and absolutely not suited to be pretty much the only ruck we play. I think he'd be fine as a burst second ruck to TdK.

Disagree strongly on this, he has ben woeful and its not his fault.. He simply is not good enough at AFL level.. A very capable backup ruck for a 1 off game, but no where near capable enough to be relied on. He also offers zero around the ground, doesn't get to contests, doesn't take intercept marks and not smart enough to sit in a hole to block space. Pitto has been beaten by Bryan playing his 1st game and Sweet playing his 2nd, Pitto won the tap outs but those players were far more influential around the ground. On Sunday, Casboult was better when he was in the ruck that Pitt.

IMO it is our biggest weakness as a team and I am fairly confident that once TDK comes back in our midfield will automatically become better and get better clearances.

As you said, I don't think Teague suggesting that we were planning on using Cunners in a negating role on Lever means he wasn't going to get mid minutes. Maybe not as much as we'd like, but he'd have still been getting some rotations through there.

And surely moving Parks forward is just more of the same thing people are complaining about with Cunners. Take a kid in his first season and fifth game out of his natural position in the backline and chuck him forward. In turn, leaving the backline even more short-handed to deal with Brown, McDonald and Weideman.

I thought at a minimum when H got injured and couldnt compete, Jones or Weiters should have been swung forward.

Harry was competing, took a few more marks, kicked a couple more goals, brought the ball to ground a bit as well when he couldn't mark.

Swing Weiters or Jones forward and we've then got another of Melbourne's tall forwards playing on an undersized defender.

There was no panacea that was going to fix what transpired.

Yeah all good points would however if this was the thinking rather use a player not as creative in this role .
As we didnt get to see it all play out speculating but thats what we are here for opinions as well .
The fact that they then went with Owies was also curious .
