Imagine you're frustrated at your workplace, not getting reward for effort and consistently overlooked for members of an established in-group irrespective of performance.

Now imagine a number of your mates work for a competitor, where (as far as you know) someone in your position is made to feel included, is rewarded for effort and has better prospects for career progression.

That's what I'm saying.

I think both have been worthy of a senior look, especially when we were struggling. Owies had to bang the door down longer though, and I'm not sure if Honey thinks he can play wing ahead of Cottrell or Newnes. Whose spot is he aiming for? Martin seems the most likely.

2nd year players. I know it's hard to be patient, but they shouldn't be feeling entitled.

By your criteria neither Clarkson or Beveridge should have ever have been appointed.

The modern example of Ron Barassi would be Michael Voss, played in numerous premierships under a legendary coach
Yeah, Voss fits the type of idea as was coached by Matthews whom was coached by Kennedy, Parkin and Jeans.
Voss also coached by Walls, that was coached by Barassi.

Be interested to see if Voss ever becomes a head coach again or if he content just to be an assistant.

True... But on the other hand..
What do they have to strive for when they keep performing and getting knocked back for older underperforming players?

We need to keep these talented kids, not lose them to other teams that will give them game time..

Plenty of players at other teams who are 21-22 with only a handful of games behind them.

Sure they'd be stoked with a handful of games

Honey is still only 19 and a rookie. Let's not pretend he's in demand and Carlton are responsible for stifling his career.

Could be another Billy Gowers. Goes elsewhere, has a good year but ultimately fails to make it. Let's hope he understands how important development is.

since when has honey been banging the door down anyway? I've seen him play, goes ok, his time may come if that's what the sc reckon - so typical of the raze the club to the ground, no patience left brigade - peripheral player isn't promoted = teague fail - laughable, again...........

It is ridiculous a team so far down the ladder doesn't give Honey a game. Kid has so much class and speed and hardness. Black mark against Teagues name.

Lots of people who watch the VFL ( including our smarter VFL watchers) closely are saying that he fades in and out of games at that level.

Stop the fadeouts, tick that box and selection will follow.

We've rewarded VFL form before. What makes anyone think it's different here?

Could be a superstar for us, how do you know unless you give them a go?

Yep for the rubbish about not giving players a go or developing them well enough Holman is probably the only player in last few years we may of got wrong- and let's face it we've been through a lot ..

if only it were that simple - by that theory, why not carrol? ramsay? any fringe player running round in the twos?

Then he will show superstar traits more often, and knock the door down. Everyone wanted him to get a run when we were losing consistently and our intensity was low. We have seen started to show more and those who are playing when we win are more likely to be persevered with. Why would you make changes to a winning side when the fans are screaming out for more wins?

Even then, Holman isn't a star at the Suns. He's like a discount Mitch Robinson. An honest toiler who puts his body on the line.

That's what were talking about :confusedv1:
do you know what happens when you play as many untried youngsters as you are suggesting? do you? well? do you?

I’d have Carroll at the front, like him.

Ramsay, he’s tiny, next year.

Honey, got a load of tricks but no defensive game & does go missing for long periods.

eh, what the hell! chuck him him, bf coaches know everything about him - his loads, weaknesses his coaches want him to work on, his niggles, mental health situation, nutrition issues, off field attitude - you know, shit like that - bf posters just know...........put em all in.............I'm surrounded by genius..........

If BigFooty posters had their way Finbar O'Dwyer would be on his way to 50 games because, well, y'know, he's young.

Yep. And he had to ply his trade for 2 seasons in the SANFL after we delisted him until he got a second chance in the rookie draft by the Suns. So he had a bit of work to do when he left the Blues. Good story - but one of patience, hard work and persistence.

Why are you so against kids getting a game?

Ramsey (7 VFL games) Averages
21 Disposals
3.86 Marks
3.86 Tackles

Honey (8 VFL games) Averages
12.13 Disposals
4.13 Marks
3.5 Tackles
1.75 Goals

Pretty good signs for me

Nobody is against giving kids a game, they are encouraging signs for sure. Go read the coaches reports from the VFL and they explain what they are currently working on, They aren't considered to be ready yet. Why the hurry?

Boy, I miss the days when you'd go and watch the ressies before the seniors. Watch players like Fraser Brown, Ang Christou, Kouta, etc. tear it up for almost a season - sometimes longer - wondering what they were going to do when they were ready to break into the senior side and knowing that they weren't rushed before their time. I miss seeing how much more complete they were as footballers when the club gave them the go ahead to play.
