Hewitt absoulutley dominated the first set Escude was lucky he didn't lose by more.

1-0 to Escude in the second set but it was a struggle seven minutes to hold serve.

It's 2-3 to Escude in the 2nd at the moment. Come on Lleyton!

PS - What's the chances that a Tennis Discussion Board could be created. Considering we've got ones like Wrestling & Rugby, surely Tennis should get a go?

C'mon people, OUR Pat will get through this afternoon, Woody and Arthurs will pull off a famous victory tomorrow and Hewitt owns Grosjean. Let's go Aussies, onya OUR Pat!! :)

It's now up to Pat Rafter - the grass court has been installed basically to give Pat an advantage (Hewitt hasn't played on grass for yonks and has lost about 2 games out of the last 20 odd) so I would have backed Hewitt to win on any surface against the French (except perhaps clay)

The decision to play on grass was a gamble IMHO - if Rafter doesn't win (or his injury flares up) we are rooted!!!

my 2 cents

Cheers

Hmmmm. A lot is going to come down to how Pat's arm really is now. I can't see him beating Grosjean in straight so it will need to stand up to at least four sets if we are going to square the ledger at the end of day one. If it goes the distance Pat will get up.

The doubles is going to be vitally important regardless of Rafter's result. I don't really rate Santoro and Pioline doesn't have a great record in these situations. Hopefully Todd "The Sook" Woodbridge and Arthurs can get up. I think they can do it. Pat is more likely to beat Escude than Grosjean (imho) but Grosjean is Lleyton's whipping boy.

To come back from 0-2 would be very very difficult, regardless of the venue and surface. Let's hope Pat can pull off a famous victory, reversing his result against Grosjean from a couple of weeks ago.

Why so Gonzo? Surely it is a surface that disadvantages France the most. Even if it doesn't play into the hands of our current best player in Hewitt. The only other option is Rebound Ace and considering you are facing an Aussie Open quarter finalist (Pioline), semi finalist (Grosjean) and finalist (Clement) in their squad that wouldn't be wise.

I would have thought they key would be to play on something as dissimilar from clay as possible.

Fair call

I just can't get my head around the notion of picking a surface that disadvantages the opposition but your probably right!

BTW

Rafter up 3 to 2 in the first :)

Cheers
