I Know that Chris is just starting his career and he is showing potental but he has a major flaw in his game. He will not go in for the ball, he just likes it be delivered to him and if it is not he is out of the contest. Watch him dance around pack or just stands there. Unlike J.A who is a bull at the ball, Chris needs to work on this part of his game and gain more confidence in his ability, he can do this next year by smashing a few VFL defenders around before his return to the AFL

Coming off a knee reco, albeit nearly 2 years ago now.

Takes at least a year to recover, then another year to get total confidence back in it.

He'll be fine.

The guy does have a point. John Anthony is coming of a year long debilitating neck injury... yet he has a completely different attack on the ball. I like Dawes, but I would like to see him lead out of the square, not hanging around the HFF for contested ball.

I noticed this a couple of times tonight, but other times he went in for it hard. I think he'll be fine once he gets some more experience and confidence.

He had a dirty night tonight, and appeared soft, actually watching someone run past him at one stage, can't remember who it was, but i was filthy.

I wouldnt be surprised if McCaffer took his spot next week... anyone?

(Be nice if they brought Dids in for him!!!)

I love the guy, but he probably shouldn't be playing next week. He got beaten pretty convincely, got caught out of position a lot.

He's still going to be a great player down the track, shouldn't expect too much from him.

With the for maca is in it would be good to see him get a go now that he has been elevated. Might leave us a bit short up forward tho?

But they are totally different players?????? Posters are being a bit harsh on Dawes. he was never going to come in and play well just yet. he has shown enough to suggest he has a good future.

needs to be a lot harder at the ball.
was disappointed to hear he went to brighton grammar, certainly playing like it. soft as butter!
a nice contrast is JA tho lol

I think once he realises he has a big frame he will start to use it, give him some time. Gee, some of you are sounding like Tiger supporters.

Of course he should play next week, maybe a few of you have realised just how much better Trav has been since Dawes came in, it helps Trav out so much.

watchin tonight i thought he showed some good agression towards the contest and the ball when it was on the ground.

people expect too much sometimes.

I saw the majority of the game, not all of it as I was at my brothers "bucks night" ( a Hawthorn supporter, but Pies when not conflicting). I did not see anything to be concerned about.
Did you watch the game?
The boys were given very specific instructions from Mick...and judging by the result, which I must say made me exceptionally happy, they followed the orders to a tee.

Any balanced posters care to comment so I can get a better idea of the seriousness of this alledged "softness"?

****in Fabulous Win in my book....not the close one I was expecting and all good for next week.

100% Agree, we need him there just for structure, do you really think Mick cares if he doesn't kick a goal, yes there are improvements to be made, but everyone has improvements, he provides another target, creates a contest at ground level aswell as in the air!
dirty night but shouldn't be dropped..

I was going to reply the same. Dawes just being in our forward line has taken so much pressure off Trav. He's not getting double and tripled teamed so much because he is not the only big forward we have. Dawes might not be getting the bal but he is helping!

Some of you guys must have shit in your eyes, at least half a dozen times, looked like he couldn't be bothered earning some footy, he looked slow and unconcerned, even in marking contests was flogged most times. I can forgive being beaten on the night, but not being slack, harden the f@@@ up mate, use that body, and show some pies spirit.

I saw nothing wrong with Dawes game for a 3rd gamer and he did go hard and used his body well at times, however he did at times look tired

Find it hilarious some people come out of the wood work and classify a youngster a dud after one game where he didn't absolutely dominate or beat his player

How do you think he went compared to say, Cook, Cox and McCarthy all those boys were hard at the ball all the time, the same can't be said for Dawes, i don't give a rats, if you a first gamer, or 300 gamer u go in hard!!!! I think it makes it worse when you are young and you start out with no intensity, the boy should be jumping out of his skin to pull on the black and white!!

We've lost games with too many players going at the ball/man at the same tim. Not everyone should be laying the tackle or retrieving the ball all the time, everytime.

No offense but I certainly value a few other opinions ahead of yours.
And you have been posting where lately?
I did see most of the game and at no time did I see Dawes being "flogged" at any time.
I am looking for someone to hint at a part of the game in which he(Dawes) did something extremely soft to warrant you opinions.....
