I’ve done a quick check and I think Dawson can poll at least 35 points Brownlow ☑️ Who dethrones him as AA skipper?

Noah Anderson for me as an outsider

Absolutely correct. Norm Smith is the ultimate outcome but I’m taking it one game at a time:cool::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Absolutely incredible getting this bloke in for well unders. A game changer for the club and arguably the most insightful, best value trade for a decade or more,.Did we really see what he could fully become? Certainly seems a little lucky but who knows? What wasn’t lucky was Nicks, in an almost unprecedented manner, bringing in a first year recruit into the leadership team MID season after seeing his natural leadership and impact on the group. And with what I imagine was a plan to make him skipper the following year. Genius by the maestro. No question.

Seriously how can you not love Daws, the leader, player and bloke. Certainly us as fans but mainly his team mates. Expecting a big September from him and quite possibly look back at Daws in 5 years as our best ever captain, amongst a very strong field inc Bones McD, Bicks, Roo, Goody and Tex. If only Danger had hung around he would likely have been our second premiership captain IMO.

Dawson has come to be seen as the model footballer. He is a favourite for the Brownlow Medal this year, was named centreman in the All-Australian team, and might easily have been skipper of the team of the year.

Article also covers his down years at Swans, regularly getting dropped and questioning whether he was good enough. Swans midfield almost impossible to break into back then. And how he relied on Brandon Jack initially for support which has created a great bond between the 2.

There’s no real egos in a small town, everyone is pushing for the same thing, everyone wants to represent the community in the right way, and do it with your mates. That’s probably it, the love for the community is where I built all my morals from, the love for the community and the people within it.” Unlike a lot of teenagers with their eye on the AFL, Dawson was a natural talent with few pretensions about a professional career in the game until he was about to start one. Back then, he was primarily a Crows fan, admiring Andrew McLeod and Mark Ricciuto,

There’s a line in C.S. Lewis’ Narnia books that if someone thinks they are sufficient to lead, it is proof they are not. Dawson’s trepidation about taking the job, assuaged in part through long discussions with Milly, turned out to be evidence of how much he cared. “I’ve been pretty open about how I wasn’t sure if I was the right man,” he says. “You’re never really sure if you’re ready for those types of roles and especially in Adelaide, it’s a footy state and they ride the highs and lows. I wanted to be sure I was able to perform on field, but also to lead a bunch of young men is pretty daunting.
“I’m extremely competitive, but calm with the way I go about it. I understand there are moments when you need to change your tone and be a bit more aggressive. So it’s about picking your moments of what to say and when to say it.
“I’ve also become a bit better at delegating and empowering others. That’s when you see the most growth.”
(Brandon):Jack says Dawson’s lack of ego has served him well as a captain.

The power of Dawson’s care for others can be measured in how Jack, despite some well-developed cynicism about the AFL system, regards him.,“I really enjoy seeing a guy who is genuinely a good person have success, in an industry where the good people can get weeded out and numbed down, and their niceties can be cut off. To see somebody like that has almost given me a bit of positivity about footy, which is the gift that keeps on giving the longer his career goes.”
