What we all knew has been confirmed tonight.

If mods want to merge this then go ahead, but probably deserves its own thread.

Brilliant player at his best, but clearly very troubled and has done some terrible things. Hopefully he can sort his life out post footy

Not going to miss you Dayne and glad your gone,

I do wish you all the best in the next stage of your life, hope you can take some ownership and improve your life going forward and make up for the mistakes you have made it's never too late.

Footballer wise he was a gun, I still remember every time he would get the ball in the 50 and snap around the body it was always going in.

Played for the greatest club in the land won a BnF and flag not many can say they did that.

Good luck Dayne.

Not sure we can say it’s confirmed, but clearly is almost certain.

He’s a premiership player and Copeland Trophy winner.

The time for blame and ridicule has passed. Celebrate his contribution and offer messages of support.

Anything else is anti Collingwood and should be treated as treason.

Social media is not an excuse to hide behind a mask. Post what you would be prepared to say in person. I’ll give the exact time of my presence in the Legends Bar to anyone on this forum.
Correct its not. But you are opened to ridicule as much as the next person if you are a professional sports person. No ones surely upset he is gone ? Soaking up salary cap when we have younger players who need to be signed

Only 177 games, felt like more, still feels like he has another 70+ in him.

Geez he was a good player when he was on, he would do so many quick handballs and one touch gathers in close that sometimes you miss them live. Rnd 2 vs Richmond 2019, vintage.

It’s such a shame what’s happening to him, I say happening because who knows where this will go. Gambling is the scourge on society, for a country like Australia it’s embarrassing how unregulated gambling is.

Just sad. Shouldn’t be retiring.

Yeah considering he started playing from straight away it does seem a little short, should have got the 3 votes round 2, looked like he was going to explode.

I wish him the very best in getting well, and being happy in his other interests.

Was a gun footballer at his best. Just a shame we never always got to see it, but I wish him all the happiness for himself and his family.

Will always be a premiership player. Not everyone can say that.

Very few can say that Jen. He gave the club plenty, and retires a Collingwood hero.

Which means you can't see the forest for the trees. You need to stop taking comments that aren't about you on this board so seriously. I'm sorry that you were punched, but that wasn't me. That has nothing to do with this. Players can be premiership players but still shit blokes. It's an absolute fact that Didak was mates with incredibly shady characters. A great servant of the club, but that doesn't mean I am obligated to like him as a person or be blind to his character flaws.

This. 100%.

Not every player that has a big career at Collingwood, or wins a flag is a hero.

The hero is the club, the thing that unites tens of thousands of people on a weekend. The tribalism and the feeling of togetherness. The club existed well before a lot of the players we are talking about now and will long after they are all retired.

Some wear the jumper with pride, Not only uphold the Collingwood way but also set new standards - current day players like Pendlebury.
Then, there are other players - they come into the club, they take the piss, they don’t care as much for the collective. They just happen to be good at footy and wind up at the pies, some of them might even star in a GF. But they aren’t heroes.

It's one of the great privileges of life to be able to look back upon your worst mistakes after having turned yourself around. I sincerely hope that Beams can do this, and I hope that the Collingwood Football Club will be able to help him do it. Empathy, understanding and forgiveness will go a long way in this cause.

Such a shame, hopefully we can pay whatever settlement outside of the salary cap given the circumstances. I won’t hold my breath though.

You can want both.

The part of me that is fiercely loyal to this club wants him as far away as possible. The empathetic person I am just wants him to be ok. Too much damage has occurred at the club with him to find peace within the walls of the club, unfortunately.

I hope that life after football can provide that for him, his wife and their children.

so beams accepted too much money even though the club was willing to pay it?

If this is a goodbye thread, hate to see a friendship one.
Anyway time for people to give it a rest, on who’s right or wrong.
If the reports are true, then l hope he can get well, and enjoy his retirement with his young family.
At his best, one of best goal kicking mids around. It’s a pity that other factors have come into play,
All the best on the future Dayne

Without reading the article, my understanding is that the negotiations are in progress as to how much of his contract he'll be paid out so he can move on. Club and players want him out, but Beams wants to be paid accordingly based on his contract.

Lots of differing opinions on here about Beams, and I say each to their own, love him or hate him I don't see why we need to attack others for their opinion or feelings toward a football player.

He came back to our club at a cost of picks and $$ yet most likely did not fully disclose the extent of his issues and has caused dramas withing the playing group. Blame Eddie and co for that? How about some responsibility on Beams ?

Premiership player yes.
B&F winner yes.
Good bloke and deserving of everyone's undivided respect ? Not so sure.

I come in peace. Beams is gun and doesn’t lose that claim in retirement. Hope he can look back and find pride in what he achieved - there are so few who have done what he has.

best wishes to him and his family.
