Some are suggesting the AFL are looking at only mid 1st round compo for him

There's no such thing - it's either first round (after their current pick) or end of first round (ie. after other all other first round picks have been used).

I agree though that pick 3 is not a lock and given his current standing in the game an end-of-first-round pick might very well be the outcome for Frawley.

Brisbane's pick 4 imv is likely to become pick 5 after the AFL award Melbourne with pick 3 for losing Frawley under the FA rules.

So:

1 St Kilda
2 Melbourne
3 Melbourne (Frawley compo pick)
4 GWS
5 Brisbane

OK, let's wait and see brother, you're being a serious kill-joy by re-iterating this.

It is likely but there also is talk it will be a mid 1st rounder as fairer compo.

I also remember AFL heads saying (despite it not being on the afl site link) that they do in fact take into account player honors and last contract where needed to make a fair outcome.

I think we need to keep it front of mind because it sounds like the top 4 are pretty much locked in: Petracca, McCartin, Wright and Brayshaw. But we won't have pick 4 in all likelihood so it needs to be remembered when we are thinking about who we might be getting.

Beams has demanded to be traded to Brisbane.
So that's a done deal then...or if GC offer better than Brisbane, then you match/improve offer or miss out.
Collingwood will not guarantee Beams gets to Brisbane, they will work towards a deal for him...but we won't be screwed.

There is such a thing but it is at the commissions discretion.

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

Rockliff is the heart and soul of our club and a shoe-in to be our next captain.

So what? Beams may well have been ours but you are quite happy to try and pay under's.

Pay up or hope that GC do not table a bid that is acceptable to us. If that happens Beams has two choices, stay at the Pies or go to GC to be near his dad. If his priority is his old man its a no brainer.

The more this Beams scenario drags on, the more i think there will be no deal done! Collingwood want adequate compensation worse case scenario 2 first round picks since the Lions are not willing to package none of there young guns with Pick 4, there playing hardball.
Brisbane i thought would be acting in good faith under the circumstances, ie Beams sick father .However there not willing to compromise.
Just looking at this in a non bias way, in other words Collingwood fans taking there pies hats off, and Brisbane fans taking there Lions hats off. All commentators ie Hutcie, David King Terry Wallace and others are saying pick 4 IS NOT ENOUGH!
Since a deal is very unlikely i am hopping 12 months is a long time in football , and Beams may have a change of heart in 2015!

It's a fair point and you are right that it is the most likely outcome but there are rumours it's not a fait accompli.

I am sure it is truthful. I doubt it is the whole story. If he loved the club like he used to and wanted to stay he would and we would find a way if we were an innovative club.

From what I understand the club are being very accommodating towards Beams' situation. I agree that there is likey to be more to his desire to leave then just family. In the end if Brisbane refuse to offer pick 4 and a decent player then bad luck Dayne, your staying. We simply must hold firm and ensure that the playing group understand that we will not be dictated to.

Beams unfortunately wont be a RFA till end of 2016, so after next season he is just an out of contract player.

Beams could quite easily orchestrate a move to Brisbane akin to Ball to pies.

OK my mistake. However, orchestrating a move like that is not that easy. It's still a bit of a lottery.

The longer it drags on? Trade week doesn't start until next week. Brisbane's final offer will be a lot more than pick 4. Collingwood will get fairly compensated. The initial demands from both teams are not going to be agreed to by the other party, they will negotiate. Stress less

I am sure this has been said 1000 times in this thread, and if not it should of been. We are in a position where Dayne Beams WANTS to go to Brisbane to play with his brother, and they have offered him a great pay packet. Dayne Beams NEEDS to go home to his home state, so he can be with his father.

To entertain Beam's want, is to restrict us in the trade process, and that is not good for us. To entertain his need, our options are doubled with Suns in the picture. For Beams to be picky as to where he goes, he would need to have us over a barrel. That barrel would look like that Brisbane is last on the ladder, and that we are 12 months down the track, where he is coming out of contract. He hasn't got us over a barrel, because neither one of these things are true.

Collingwood are answerable to the massive number of fans. We seen this when we had a public forum for fans, to explain the plight we found ourselves in at the end of this year, by falling out of finals contention, and having the world record in injuries.

Even if Collingwood did for one second think, this is hopeless, lets just get what we can get, they know that the fans will be livid. They have to get what is fair for the fans, and because they are professional club that would anyway. But that means we are not going to play the feel good game to let Beams have it his way. Once he is out, he is out, and he is out NOW. He means nothing to us, apart from us acknowledging his worth and getting fair compensation for that worth.

I believe that at the end of the day, we will be happy with what we get for Beams. I believe that it is most likely that Beams will be a Sun next year, and the fairy tale of playing with his brother will not eventuate. There are quite a few players across the league that is in Beams category, and it will be hard to dislodge one. But because we are not over a barrel one will dislodge, as the prospect of having Beams for either Lions or Suns is as enticing as it is for us to have him in 2015. They can act all the want that he is not worth what we think, but if that is the case, why throw loads of money at him Brisbane?

I think we need to include a Grand Final side like Sydney, because someone like Hannebery would not be getting the love that he would get from us, because thousands of dollars is taken from his contract to accommodate Franklin and Tippett. If there is not a few annoyed Swans in their side, they are brainwashed. A LOT of water to go under the bridge yet, but we will get what we give return.

Seriously happy to lose him to free agency next year if Brisbane do not step up and offer quality

I am also open to the idea of paying like 200K of his salary in the first 2 years if he goes to GC and we get their 1st 2 picks

Mate, you have to learn how to summarise even more than what you do. Once you've done that, you can teach me how to do it. That post could be in the TLDNR category and will be lost to a lot of posters.
I read it,most of it sounded good. Dunno that I agree with the 'Beams will be a Sun' thing though.

Beams has demanded to be traded to Brisbane.

Beams is NOT in the position to demand anything. There will be a lot of media speculating the understanding of what Beams is saying. Look for the "Beams stated ........" before taking it to the bank. Direct quotes from the player himself. Anything else, except direct quote from Player manager is speculation. And even if it was quoted, Beams is delirious to think he can demand and get what he wants. Demanding certain action to an established historic club like Collingwood, will likely have the opposite happen for you. He needs to work with us, to get us what we deserve, or he can sit out for 12 months for all I care. It will send a clear message, that's for sure.

Well you blew the deal to get Tippett by hanging on to a homesick Polec, then lost him anyway.

So will be interesting to see how you tough guys up there manage this one too.

All the best
I don't think any Crows supporter is really in a position to pot the Lions for "blowing" that deal.

The Lions traded Polec in exchange for picks they used to draft Darcy Gardiner, Nick Robertson and indirectly Dan McStay. The Lions also used pick 7 (which was on offer for Tippett) to draft Sam Mayes.

So to recap, while the Lions eventually traded out Polec and missed out on Tippett, they gained:
- Sam Mayes
- Gardiner
- Robertson
- McStay

On the other hand, choosing not to trade Tippett cost the Crows:
- Tippett (in exchange for nothing)
- pick 20, 2012
- pick 54, 2012
- pick 8, 2013
- pick 26, 2013
- $300k in fines
- (eventually) your CEO

The Lions knew the position your club was in and offered up fair value, given the circumstances. Your club didn't take it, to their detriment.

While you're rightfully bitter about it, I reckon it'll serve as a warning to the Pies.

As other Lions (and some Pies) posters have suggested, I think middle-ground will be found after the initial ambit claims.
