As unfortunate as his injury was, Luke Ball going down will make this guy's career. Such a natural midfielder and he has been at the centre of so much of our best midfield play these last two weeks. I think with Ball out, our best combination is Jolly, Swan, Pendlebury and Beams, easily. It's his chance, I hope he takes it. Thoughts?

tell the truth i thought that soon as i heard of Balls ACL. Here's an opportunity of a lifetime for Beamsey. Today I suspected he is thinking the same. Could be an awesome outcome from a tragedy

Definitely the best game Beams has played on a big stage however I believe he is always playing at a high standard this time of the season. Let's hope he doesn't get burnt out like he has in recent seasons. He is vital to our midfield set up.

Good on Beamsy! When he started i always imagined him as someone playing on the HFF and providing the I50's as an outside mid, but now he looks like he can just about do anything providing the in&under work as well.

Very good kick in tight spaces and around corners.
Not so great at a straight-line kick, but serviceable.

I am 50-50 about him being defined as a hard nut, he's good in that area, and good as an outside option and I like that mix.

Ball had to be a complete contested machine because he was very susceptible to being beaten when the spread is on.

Beams in there may come at a small loss in the contested ball, but we will be advantaged both when we spread, and in shutting down opposition when they try to run the ball through the middle.

It's one of these situations where, provided we can get a small forward to cover Beams/Sidebottom, we could actually end up with a better result by these guys (and Blair) having to stand up in Ball's absence.

I can guarantee the mark of Luke Ball will ensure that he's down there as an assistant coach this year, much like Shane O'Bree was late in his career. Certainly a silver lining is possible.

Beams was fantastic yesterday and really could come into his own this year in the absence of a few bigger names, really super player in the making

Took a couple of games to get into the swing of things, but the last two games is ave 29 possessions. Had 14 contested possessions yesterday 10 inside 50's. It's great to see him back in good form, doesn't get enough credit in here for what he does.

He really has an opportunity to stand up and do Luke Ball's role. He did this yesterday. Has gone missing in big games but not yesterday. I think Ball out will develop Beams game to a new level.

Sidebottom, Wellingham & Beams all started together and promised a lot. Sidey probably the only one who hasn't stalled a bit in their development. Yesterday though showed what Beams & Wellingham can do. The challenge is to find that consistently. We need that now more than ever.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Other than the Grand Finals in 2010, in which he was excellent, what have they done in their careers to indicate that he has not stalled in his development but Beams has? I would say that Beams had easily been the best of the two over the course of their careers thus far and has consistently played at a higher level than Sidebottom who has always tended to put in fairly anonymous performances far more often.

I would say Beams has clearly been the best of the three in terms of the quality of his output on a consistent basis. In fact, the biggest knock on the other two has been that despite their obvious ability, they have both been very inconsistent AFL footballers thus far.

HUH?
The Boot started the year before for starters.
All have delivered to different extents and Sidey is the only one who has not missed through significant injury.

I don't think Beams is the new Luke Ball, I'd say he's more like the new Scott Burns. If he can gain that toughness that Burnsy had, he might end up an even better player overall.

I was excited when he came to the club and as much as LB going down is horrible think Beamsy can really blossom, gain confidence in his ability and trust in his place in the team...looking forward to his progress.

Beams has got a terrific record in a some big home and away games, notably his record against Geelong. I think he is getting a harsh deal. He tired at the end of 2010 in his second year and was injured towards the end of last year after having a decent lay off with a stress fracture

Beamer was good and will get better. It's hard to get into our midfield with so much quality in there, kids have to wait in line.

Now Beams, Sidebottom and Blair are getting a go due to injuries and thriving.

The season aint over yet folks
