Said he'd play Valenti for a few games earlier this week then decides to drop him.

Sends a poor message to the players (Valenti in particular) and he should never have said it in the first place.

back flips seem to be all the rage in footy this week.

first Richmond fire Wallace before changing their mind after a few minutes, and now this!

agreed, reckon it's pretty harsh.

Only sweetner is because we had so much quality coming back into the side. We have to pick our best 22 and i'm sure Bailey explained that to Valenti.

Yeah you are right he should have never said that. I like the ins for the Dees though and I think that at this stage Valenti isn't part of our best 22. Having said that, we do need to make a decision on him at the end of the year so it would be good to play him for a few games in a row so we can make a more informed decision. I expect he will get an opportunity later in the year.

IMO he won't be on our list next year.

Bailey surely said what he said in context of unexpected players coming back namely Green who is autmatically in the first 18. He probably planned on giving Valenti a patch similar to Dunn but bad timing I guess. I doubt this would bring a major concern to the other players. I agree that it is bad luck for Valenti though.

Valenti is no good.

Someone tell me how they would fit him in the 22 this week?

Not a chance.
That's not DM's point I don't think.

We all realise Valenti isn't in our best 22, but Bailey shouldn't come out and promise Valenti a run in the side, then turn around a couple of days later and drop him.

Dean would've spoken to Valenti about it and thats all that matters.

As much as I like Valenti, it's understandable with all ins we've got this week somebody had to give.

Valenti is just unlucky.
This. Surely Bailey wasn't certain whether or not Frawley and Greeny would be back in the side when he said that.

If it was a matter of not being sure which players would or wouldn't come back into the team then surely Valenti deserves to be one of the emergencies.

Its a bit poor from Bailey, but I'm sure coaches say a lot in the media, and this was early in the week so we don't know the situation. There are many explanations that we might not know or even be able to guess.

Coaching 101.

Valenti would have been well aware of the situation all along. What a coach says in the media does not reflect the situation behind the scenes. The media is simply a tool. His comments earlier in the week where a lot more likely ducks and drakes about Green, Riv AND Frawley all being chances to play this weekend.

He probably didn't expect the injured players to come up. At the end of the day, Valenti's only a depth player for us, so I don't thinks its a big deal TBH...

Id rather see Bennell get a game than Valenti.

Yes, its first and foremost a Supercoach gripe, but I think Cheney seems hard done by this week.

Points aside the kid looked incredibly composed with the ball in his hand last week. Doesn't panic and seems pretty hard at it. I know putting the best 22 on the park is important, but in your position surely their is room to reward the one or two kids that are playing good football.

Except Melbourne has eight or ten kids playing good football at the moment. They can't all play at once. Bennell is probably a better matchup for Rioli than Cheney.

It's very harsh on him after a very good game last week, but them's the breaks.

I though Cheeney was unlucky to get droped after R2. Best sherrin head at MFC.

It's been a very long time since spots in the melbourne line up have been so hotly contested. Particularly down back.
