So long Coxy. Congratulations on an outstanding career and thanks for the memories.

What a legend. The sheer longevity of his time at the top has been incredible. Even now - when he is clearly not at his best - he is still probably in the best ten ruckman in the competition, or close to it. From 2004 to 2013, he spent 7 of those years in the best four ruckmen in the league (six All Australians plus 2004 in his breakout year was right up there). Would've been pretty close to that standing in 2013 as well.... That's incredible in a position that is notorious for form fluctuations and a high injury rate.

You can debate all day long as to who's best is better Sandi or Cox, but Cox's longevity, durability and consistency leaves our man well in front at the moment from a career perspective.

Him, Judd, Cousins, Matera and Jako stand above as our top five (not sure of the order) IMO.

It's late and I'm in bed,... and then I remembered, "Coxy" - just had to come on here and say: best ruckman (over-sized ruck rover really) I've seen, best rookie ever without a doubt and creme de la creme of the modern-day players. He also seems like a top bloke - laconic, humble and down to earth.

All the best Coxy - you're a true modern-day legend and a key player in what was arguably the best (relatively short-lived) midfield quartet of all time: Cox, Judd, Cousins and Kerr!

You will be missed!

No debate here - Cox is the best ruckman of the last 20 years!

It's going to be strange not seeing Cox in the team. With both Glass and Cox retiring it is truly the end of an era. Only in a few years time I think I will appreciate what a privilege it was to watch him every week. The best ruckman I have ever seen. Worsfold reckons he is the West Coast Eagles best player ever. Now its hard to make a call like that, especially at a club that has produced quite a few legends of the game in its short history, but if we had to take somebody's opinion on the matter, I think Worsfold would be in the best position. An amazing servant of the club and thanks for all the memories you good thing!

Name a stand after him at The Dong? Have a stand for big Cox and The Dong.

Congats to Coxy on a stellar career. Best of luck for your future endeavours. :thumbsu::footy::footy::footy:

Around '06 my dad wanted to make a point about chriss judd, comes up to me and starts off by saying "who's your favourite player,"
didn't waste a second 'dean cox'
ruined dad's point though.

no matter how many superstar players were around him he was the player that drove us, i love him 1st ballot hall of fame for sure, other than salmon and farmer the best ruck man to have ever played the game

Champion and arguably the greatest ruckman to play the game.

Too many memories to list, just an out and out gun.

Onya Coxy, we'll miss ya.

Time was right to retire and made the right call. Still gonna be strange without him there next year. Hopefully stays on in a coaching role.

Couple of my favourite big Cox memories were the siren after the '06 grand final and dominating that final quarter against the Roos down at Boot Park.

What an absolute true champion of the game , our Club and all things Western Australian.

The best ruckman of his era and possibly ever. He redefined the position he played and made it his own. Hence changing the landscape of ruck play for ever few can lay claim to that. And its testimony of what an out and out Champion he was.

A true Clubman , demonstrated no more so than by the timing of this announcement with him going out at seasons end.
Scotty Lycett ( take note ) these are the "Clubman " characteristics of a player who you can aspire to emulate.

Whilst no one would doubt the skills of Messer's Judd , Cousins, Kerr ......we should never ( and neither should they ) forget just how GOOD Cox made them look with his pin point ruck work. Its not difficult to shine as a midfielder when your spoon feed by a dominant ruckman who gives you first use of the ball.

Dean Cox the 204 cm player with the skills of a fleet footed small midfielder, the deft passing ability ( either foot ) of a link up midfielder, the goal kicking accuracy that many a full forward would kill for, the telling towering marks in the backline in the dying minutes of the match that save the game, the dexterity at ground level to make other smaller players look silly ( yes Bolton I am talking about you ), the player who wills himself to the contest in the dying moment and stems the tide.

This is what I will remember and more of a champion player that bleed blue and yellow.

And as well as all his footballing credentials .... those of you who have never talked to Dean or got to know the man off the field.....may not know this but ....Dean a ripper of a bloke. Genuine, humble and just a beaut all round guy.

On a quirky side note I cant think of a better way to bring up my 2000 post that typing out a post of merit to a Club Legend.
To the player who made # 20 his own I salute you 100 fold..... The symmetry is apt.

It's pretty sad him retiring, just a couple of weeks ago I wanted this to happen like this was a good thing, Lycett gets his chance but now reality has hit and Cox is gone I feel like I'm losing someone special to me,

think I'm may be grieving.

Quite simply the best ruck man of the modern era, no other ruck man comes close. As many have said, he re defined the ruck role, and we may not see another like him for a while.

As supporters of this great club we have truly been lucky to see some of the modern day greats play for our club over 25 years, and whilst times are tough right now, we really have no reason to complain about what we have witnessed in 25 years.

When Lycett leaves us at the end of the year, Simpson is going to have egg on his face for not pushing this earlier.

Cox has been terrific and he should be congratulated not only on his achievements, but his overall conduct - a true champion.

However, this year the team has been poorly managed.

Nic's development isn't what it should have been and Lycett and Sinclair have missed so much development because a change wasn't made sooner.

are you related to smotie, snortie?
such a ridiculous statement ...really.

congratulations to dean cox, great ruckman, great team player, great clubman, great story.
