During one of the 2009 practice matches at Gotsch's Paddock I talked with Brad's dad, I think his name is Kim, about Brad's athleticism and evasiveness and he mentioned Brad has a brother playing with the Colts. His name was not mentioned at the time. His dad told me Shannon Cox is is related to the Dick family through marriage and regularly visited the family home.

So dad's Kim Dick? Nice one bro.

If it isnt I must have read the wrong info on one of the internet sites. More interested in what he was saying at the time and I'm getting the old timers condition. I forget what it's called.

Who knows maybe the guy I spoke to wasnt Brad Dicks dad. Now that I think about it he did look Japanese and said Bro like you but it sounded more like Blo.

Next time I see Brad I'll ask him.:D

I was hoping it would have some stuff about his brother but hiu cousin is mentioned in passing. Does Brad have a brother? His dad did say brother but am i showing my ignorance of the subtleties of tribal family networks ?

3. BRAD DICK
(Amangu tribe in the South-West region)
Recruited from: East Fremantle
To: Collingwood
Debut: 2007, 8 games

Dick's father, Kim, was a Noongar man who lived in Goomalling, three hours inland from Perth. Brad has the name of the town, where his father's family were married and buried, tattooed on his hand. "That's my dad's story but I grew up in Geraldton, on Amangu land. That's where my mum's family is from and I have a lot of family still there - my sister lives there and all my uncles and aunties and cousins. I know a bit about the tribe, but not too much - I know all about the tribe is from, we did a bit of work at school about it and I know the some of the language, but that's about it. It was a good place to grow up, being right on the coast it's a really pretty town. We'd go hunting in the bush and we used to go cray fishing all the time, or my family did at least. I didn't really like fishing, because I was terrible at it."
Football in Geraldton was quick, skilful and tough. "I loved playing with my cousins and when I moved to Perth for school, everything got a bit harder. You were playing against the best, every week. When I moved I still felt just like a country boy and it was pretty hard living there, even though I had my cousin with me. But I think it made it easier for me to come from Melbourne, because I was a bit more used to being away from my family. My mum and dad moved over here with me and they're still here and loving it, they've made lots of good friends."
After having his knee reconstructed on the eve of the 2008 season, Dick has played just two games in his return season. He'd like to notch a few more. "Coming back from my knee was so hard, it was the hardest thing in my life. The tough part was watching all my mates, who got drafted with me, playing footy while I couldn't. And with all the hard training I had to do, it was a big challenge mentally to come back. I've played two games and they were quicker than I remembered, but at the same time it was good just to be back out there and remind myself I could do it. I've been going all right in the VFL and I'm trying to put some more consistency into my game. Hopefully I can be back in the team soon, I really want my spot back."
