I understand that there is only a limit on how many can play in the seniors for Coburg. But i thought this would not apply in practice match.
I maybe wrong.
The official VFL season is yet to start?

isnt it only when you are playing a team that isnt with a afl club?

He was a purely speculative pick at? whatever he was...was it 80? anyway, he was a pure project player, i.e. a tall athlete without footy skills that might over time pick the game up.
If we are hanging on this kid being an answer we are in real deep shit. He might solve a problem if the stab in the dark pays off, but thats about the max hope. ;)

Pick #51.

Brad Dalziell was pick #52, Craig Bird #59 and Taylor Walker was pick #75.

Ah hindsight is a wonderful thing

Bird and Walker were NSW scholarship players tied to Sydney and Adelaide respectively. Richmond put sfa effort into finding players in Australia's most populous state. Probably did not even look at Broken Hill (where Walker's from) even though for all intents and purposes it is part of SA, right down to footy culture.

Yeah I know they were tied to those clubs via the scholarship but that doesn't ban other clubs from recruiting them does it? I'm unsure. And you are right there is a whole market we are missing out on by not taking advantage of through the NSW scheme although it does seem that Craig Cameron has intrust in the Northern Territory.

Pretty sure other clubs can't draft them if they agree to their scholarship club. Otherwise Ranga Edwickrama wouldn't have lasted to the rookie draft for the Cats...

Yeah decent players are not hard to find at the end of draft if you do some research. Walker would of helped our FF woes and Dalziell would of been a nice addition to the 2nd tier of our midfield.

No Cogga. If you'd seen the kid play you'd know he has plenty of footy skills.

havent seen him and all i can go by, is if he did have "plenty" of footy skills, then he would have had a taste of senior footy by now, seeing as there are a number of candidates in the 22 right now, especially when talking ruck and or tall forwards, that lack "plenty" of footy skills. ;)

Dude, he's 15kg underweight to play ruck in the AFL, and probaly 8-10 to play as a key forward. He'd get smashed. And at the moment he plays like he knows that. AND HE'S NOT A RUCKMAN. Give him time. Big skinny guys like that sometimes just all of a sudden 'click', when their muscular development, coordination and confidence catch up to their vertical stature.

hopefully can crack into the coburg seniors and play out the year with them. and try and get a game in 2010.

man, you are forgetting one most important point here. You are talking about the tigers now, dont forget. We haved had a truck load of Big skinny guys like that, forever and all they have done is fill a spot on the list and play 2s for their entire careers. Then you can factor in how good we are in spotting Big skinny guys like that, that can actually play the ****ing game and calling out their number in the first, second or even third raound of the draft and you might understand what odds the "sometimes" are.
FFS man, they couldnt see what a Buddy had to offer, and you gunna tell me that sometimes just all of a sudden 'click'? Is that what we are hanging our hats on?
I am not bagging him now, i dont offer any opinion until they front up in the big time. Offering opinions on what they can or cant do in the 2s is like pissing in the wind, unless they are dominating week in week out, kicking a bag each week. ;)

Sorry to suddenly skip back a page, but I had to respond to this because it shits me no end. How does inquiring into where a player is at, and hoping that they become a good player, get construed to mean we are 'hanging on this kid being an answer', and that subsequently we are in 'deep shit'. No one's hanging anything on him. It would just be nice if he came good, because it would benefit our football club.

Carry on(ellipsis) See what I did there RATD, corma?

Lets not forger he is a 2nd year player, is 202cms tall and only weighs 90kgs, do we really expect him to be playing already? He also had a few injuries last year did he not?

Hamish McIntosh was about the same size when he was drafted. He was pick #9 in the 2002 draft and only played 1 game in his first 3 years. Yeah he had injuries but he wasnt setting the world on fire in the VFL either.
