Solomon is an above average HBF.

But, inserted into our side, we don't become that much better than we are now, he is no match winner.

But insert an above average CHB, and I think we are looking a whole lot better.

We'd all like to see 300k spent a season on a good CHB.

but if Solomon is the best we can get this off-season, I'd look into it, especially if we can get him on the cheap. But I just wouldn't pursue it that much.

wouldn't it be that much clearer if the club came out and said we are targeting players a, b and c. And we have spoken to d, e and f.

that way, i could say, forget Solomon, keep talking to Jon Hay

Jod I am not saying that at all. I hope that was not how it came accross as I think that our defenders have loads of courage. Lack of courage is not their deficiency.

What I am saying is that backline of:

Chick Glass Green

Solomon Gasper Hunter

Is a probably top 4 backline in AFL. This then allows us to play Wirra thru the midfield and forward line. Solomon and Chick give us fantastic run out of defence. Collica could start on the bench. The only question marks are still Gasper and to lesser extent Glass. I am hoping that they do finally stand up as they have been promissing for a while.

If it's true then he would be an big assett because he is only 23 and would add some hardness to the defence.

However, Haynes IMO is not tradeable.

His form is like a yo-yo, and he's one of the worst offenders when it comes to bludging in away games.

I wouln't cry if we got a 3rd round draft pick for him.

A very good point you make and granted a CHB would be better for sure, a Jon Hay type. I would be thrilled if we could pick one up.

Trouble is , (and I am only speculating) I am not aware that one is on the market, apart from Rawlings and we dont appear to be showing much interest in him. It would be hard to imagine that the Hawks would loose both Rawlings and Hay and you would say that as it stands things dont look that great for them retaining Rawlings.

Sure if one comes up I fully endorse your proposal 100%

If one doesent I still think Solomon is a great inclusion in our team being 24 next year 188 cm and 95kg.

The biggest thing I got out of the night was after a few crownies and a chat with Trev (CEO for all who dont know but should) was that the Eagles were having a red-hot go at Dean Solomn and you wont believe this.... Mark McVeigh. He also mentioned that David Haynes was an option to be traded back to a Victorian club, not meaning in regards to Essendon for one of these, but to any Victorian club, as he is a little bit home sick.

I believe that we have a very good group of young players that will give us a flag in the next few years and that we should keep most of them. I put Haynes as one of the better players. He is not a traditional FF or a free scoring FF but his type of play locks the ball into the 50 and is a catalyst for our midfield running game.

Of course everyone is tradeable if the right offer is made but I can't see it happening with Haynes.
And what is the solution if Haynes goes, Jako or Gardy at FF? Our main effort in trading surely is a key defender to replace Milli. I can't see us getting a 'Hay' and also trading for a FF.

Defensive rebounding has been a bigger problem for us than CHB so it is not suprising that we would chase Solomon and Mcveigh.
Both are good quick defenders and deliver the ball very well from the backline.

Exactly - Woosha pretty much structured the forward line around him at FF and we got squat.

We got the highest scoring attacking structure in the league. It's all about teamwork, not about individual efforts and that is exactly what Woosha has focused on since day 1.

It doesn't help much when you lose two key players from your midfield in fletcher and embley, and the #1 ruckman in the comp! Our forward half started to look alrite when Doogs was the focal point at FF.. But when the midfielders started to bomb the ball on top of fido, it was all over!

That's the problem, when the structure is so reliant on the midfield, a couple of injuries can kill us. Bombing the ball up forward is a natural response when the midfield is under heavy pressure - when there is no forward line for the opposition to worry about, 100% of their focus goes to shutting down our midfield.

Although you make good arguments I just cant see WC spending that much money on a HBF. Solomon is not a matchwinner so why are we paying him matchwinning money? Hunter can do Solomons job just aswell, with perhaps more courage, he is younger too and will cost less.

We must also stop with the delusion of moving Wirrpunda out of the backline, we just cannot afford to move him, he is way too good back there for us and creates all of our attacks out of defence. Even if we got Solomon, I would leave Wirra back there.

If and that is a big IF, we are prepared to spend this sort of money on a quality player from another club, then it must be on a KPP. We have midfielders and flankers coming out of our ears, what we need is a spine.

Once again though I must say, I dont want to make any trades. I believe we have the KPP's already at the club, we are just waiting for them to develop. Staker, Doogs, Lynch, Glass, Gaspar...these guys can do the job.
