Dear 'the man',

I have been using your train service now for approximately 9 weeks as I recently accepted a new position in the CBD. I commute from the outer suburbs daily, always during peak hour in the morning and mainly peak hour on the way home.

I write to you today to congratulate you. You have by far exceeded my expectations and stooped to new depths unthinkable from the previous public transport regime Connex.

Now if I may, I'd like to quickly explain my situation.

Living in suburban Melbourne approximately 20kms from my place of work, I wake up at 7:30 each morning to prepare for my day ahead by defecating, showering, brushing my teeth and whatever other business I need to attend to. I leave my residence at 8am to catch my "8:13" train. The reason I use quotation marks because I can count on one hand the amount of times my train has actually arrived at the station before 8:18.

I would like to espcially congratulate you for the customer service skills your staff represented two Thursday's ago. I am unsure if you are even aware of how professionally and efficiently you dealt with your paying customers so I am happy to give you a run down of events.

I arrived at the platform which is actually an unmanned yet high volume of passenger station, to be greeted by a voice over the speaker announcing that due to signal faults the train will be delayed for approximately 15-20 minutes.
Approximately 15-20 minutes later my ears picked up the a similar sound of bullshit "due to signal faults the train may be delayed for up to 15-20 minutes".
Although I had a very good feeling about the events to come, I thought I would wait around and watch events unfold.
Sure enough 10 minutes later we were informed that services would be suspended indefintely and to please wait patiently. The time was approximately 8:50am.
At roughly 9 o'clock on the dot the growing crowd is issued with a new and exciting load of excretement "please make your way to the nearest bus stop as buses will be sent to pick you up", my ears how ever did not pick up an apology... not that it would have really meant much by this point.
So as approximately the 200 strong crowd of commuters make their way to the tiny bus stop outside the station and stand around like a group of geniuses for 5 minutes, a new announcement comes over the speaker that trains will be resuming and buses will not be coming to pick us up... okay.
So we all return to our posts at the station only to be greeted by a new message 5 minutes later at approximately 9:10 "please be advised, train now departing Werribee, thank you for your patience today".

Would you like to have a guess what happened next?

This is where it gets good and I can really appreciate the excellent customer service training you guys provide your staff......... well 15 minutes later a train passes... packed with people and doesn't even stop at our station!! Same thing again not 20 minutes later happens?
I hate to think what time normal service resumed but I gave up at about 9:45 and was actually informed that the problem occured over 45 minutes before I even arrived just after 8. Not only was I standing out in the sun because the little cover provided at the station was too full to stand in so I was nice and burnt, but I had to take unpaid leave because of your inept, unsatisfactory, limp wristed, un-accountable, piece of ****ing shit system. On Friday I learnt it was a "signal failure".

Which brings me to my next point.

Why is it twice a week without fail in evening peak hour in the city loop are trains delayed 15 minutes due to "signal failures between Flinders St and Southern Cross stations"?

If someone has ****ed up just tell us. If someone has thrown them infront of a train then tell us? If you guys are seriously having so many signal **** ups then your system is worse then I thought because surely you guys would be on top of it by now?

It is far too expensive on my wage to pay an extra $80 for petrol and $50 for parking a week so driving isn't an option. Catching a bus would take even longer because I need to catch 3 connecting buses to arrive even close to my work place. So yes, I do rely on your service and for the amount of money I along with other commuters pump into your flawed piece of shit system I expect better. I expect trains to run at a similiar time to what is scheduled. I expect enough services to be provided so I don't need to be pressed up against some dude who smells like he bathes in curry powder and another dude who looks like he broke out of an asylum after receiving a lobotomy this morning.

Also I don't understand having 85 ****ing staff members at north melbourne and 0 staff members and no machines that accept notes at my station? I think the only positive thing you guys have done that I have even noticed is that the one young blonde girl that works at north melbourne is the only metro staff member who doesn't appear to have been conceived rectally. Please also rectify this. Either fire her or hire more staff members that are visually appealing because I believe you guys should at least try to make yourselves look slightly appealing to commuters in some form because your service certainly does not.

You buttholes will actually end up costing me much more in the not too distant future because I can not continue having 12 hour work days for which I only get paid 8 and I feel as though I have no other choice but to relocate closer to the city from the outer suburbs, somewhere no more then 30 minutes walking distance from my workplace as I will flat out continue to use public transport in any form if this continues. I am sure you will be able to live with that on your conscience how ever, which is fair enough because I am nobody.

Now I don't normally condone violence or juvenile behaviour amongst grown adults like myself, but I feel that we should be compensated for your general lack of talent as "integral service to Melbourne's infrastructure". The reason I say this is because the only time I ever get violent urges is when you guys steal my time and my money. Hell I can even deal with the general public at work and the majority of them are absolute **** wits. You people how ever are paid government employees and should have some sort of idea how to provide a reliable service or at least keep customers informed by at least communicating and taking responsibility for your actions when you **** us up the ass without the priveledge of lubricant, scented or not.

I would also like to register my disgust by complaining about the lack of services you "people" (and I used that term loosely) provide. I don't even catch the Sydnenham line but I can tell you that they clearly don't have enough services as far as I can tell every time I see one of their train's pass. You could honestly not even fit a cat on their line most days. Although some days it is generally good viewing to see some young supple woman's breasts pressed against the window pane, it also brings me sadness to know this same girl and I will not be getting nakes and eating whipped cream off of each other's genitalia. This is partly your fault Metro.

My line is shit and over crowded to. Send more services or please abort yourselves.

Also could you explain why colleagues I work with that commute from Geelong arrive at work sooner then I do? I was almost certain 20k's is a little closer then 50.. I could be wrong though?

In summary you guys are shit. Worse in fact then Connex. I am unsure how long you guys have been going around for now but the service you provide is clearly unacceptable even by 3rd world standards at time. If I was a Connex employee I would love life because I know I could just stand around all day doing sweet **** all and offering false sympathies to those who my shit company has ****ed over.

**** you, **** you in your ass. **** your mothers and your mother's mother. Please get ****ed and **** off you sub human shit bags.

P.S can I have that blonde's number?

Not that it makes it OK, at all.

my bus is never on time, I live three stops from the interchange (where the route starts) yet it is constantly 15 minutes late. we're talking about 1km in distance.

every ****ing day. I leave half an hour earlier now, if I left "on time" i'd be twenty minutes late.

trams are good, but trains are very very inconsistent, particularly in morning peak hour - the only time i have to bother with trains are monday, tuesday, wednesday mornings on the sandringham line.

it's not too bad in reality, but could be better but i've heard some horror stories from other lines... i think this is probably one of the better ones.

am i the only one who reckons it would be great to put into service about ten trains with no seats on them, these trains could be reserved to sweep through the busiest lines at about 8am and just clear out a lot of congestion... by about that stage the trains are very very crowded and who really needs a seat anyway at that time?? having no seats would just about triple the capacity of a train.... to be fair i have no idea about the cost factor...

well said copulator....also the cost of public transport in melbourne is ridiculous for the service we receive. seriously public transport is a joke. the further out you live the more it costs when generally the further out you live the less money people in those areas have. they were considering scrapping zone 2 as they did with zone 3 but decided against it as it would have led to a large increase in patronage. instead have decided it is better to have all those people drive to work

My train will be delayed by 4 minutes, well that's not so bad you say. But I need to catch the connecting bus, AND THE ****ING BUS DRIVER WILL LEAVE WITHOUT WAITING AN EXTRA 30 SECONDS FOR THE 20 ODD PASSENGERS.

So pretty much an empty bus arrives at uni everyday because the dirty Indian bus driver, who makes me increasingly racist every morning, refuses to wait for the train to arrive.

And it happens every single morning without fail. Never has the 9:03 eltham or the 9:22 eltham left on time.

It might as well be cancelled.

Public transport is a joke in this state. Used to use it often ages 15-25 (till I got my first car) so I can definitely sympathise.

My bf uses the train when he has to go home- we were on a train from Essendon, needed to get to the next platform at Southern Cross station. And a V-line train too. So the ****ing V-line leaves a minute early! He missed the train literally by seconds. What is the ****ing point if the stupid train leaves early??????? I know late trains are more of a problem, but trains leaving early can be just as annoying as well.

The tube in London is freaken awesome, compared to our shit we have here. Trains run every 5 minutes!!!

Thank christ i drive to work. I'd rather be stuck in a traffic jam (ie. in own comfort of car- adequate heating/air conditioning, radio to listen to, etc) that be stuck on a train that is going nowhere, or stuck on a crowded platform. :thumbsd:

Lol... the point i made exactly in my post.

It's so frustrating, I know. :thumbsd:

early public transport is far worse than late public transport.

i know it sucks if you are on the train/bus/tram but if the it's running early the driver should know this and slow down.

were i live in sydney after about 7pm there is only one bus an hour (horrible i know!) so if say it's supposed to arrive at 7.15 and you get there for 7.10 but it's already gone, you've then got to wait an hour. ****ing hopeless.

just on metro. why would they choose last saturday night and sunday day to do track work?? got ****ing two massive games at the MCG - our bus to the game on sunday was absolutely crammed and when we nearly ran up the backside of a car at the intersection of chapel street and dandenong road people literally went flying forward.

why would they not look at the fixtures and see this week as a great time to do track work - collingwood and north have only attracted 50k twice since 2004, so whilst they're still be a crowd it will be smaller than last saturday's crowd, and there is no game on sunday in melbourne.... instead they do it when the crowd is emptying out from a 60k game and when there is an 80k game on the sunday. ****ing stupidity whoever botched that one up.

Lol, yeah buses can be bad too. I used to rely on them alot when i was younger to get to work, whatever. Back then it was one every 50 minutes, with like service on Saturday stopped at 1pm!!! And no buses on Sunday.

Of course fast forward to now when I dont need to catch buses anymore, the service is alot better. I think i see my local bus still running about 7pm on a Saturday!!

you got sunburnt that early in the morning?

lawl

The glen waverley line must be one of the best ones because i never have problems like that, and most trains run within 5 minutes of their scheduled timing.

I never really use public transport during peak hour but when I have, trains have never really been an issue. I suppose it helps when you have two train lines to pick from plus the tram.

Dad's advice to me was to never live outside of the tram zone. Wise words I think. That way you have a few alternatives.

For the most part it's not bad, but when I was studying in the city, the same trains on certain days just didn't turn up.

You know there's an issue when you're almost at the stage of planning when to leave for the day based on the knowledge that certain trains won't be running.

I'm sure it wouldn't cost 1.5 billion or however much has been pissed away on Myki.

the infrastructure is terrible - rails, signalling some of the stations and also the fact thats its just about all above ground.its hard to believe in a country like australia and a city like melbourne which is only 150 years old that we cant have planned an underground like the london tube or the metro's throughout europe and north america.i reckon no matter who is running the show it will always be sh ite.used to catch 2 trains to get to school in the late 80's & early 90's when it was ran by the govt was crap then, used to work in town when connex were running the show and they were a joke but now working in the burbs and travelling by car which i am thankful for.

apart from perving on some hot young office girls I cant say i miss it at all.

melbourne would also have to be one of the few cities in the world where you cant jump on a train at the airport into the cbd

Yes it does although connex used to apologise profusely

"blah blah blah blah.... connex apologises for the inconvenience"

argggggg

Anyways i fooking HATE peak hour public transport. Don't mind it for leisure though. Move inner city, you will never look back. I work in the docklands and can walk there in an hour or ride there in 25 mins.

Last time I worked in the city I had a job for just over a year of which I was forced to deal with Connex. Luckily before and after then I had jobs in the suburbs or places I didn't have to pay to park. Well untill now that is.

Never in my year of relying on them did they pull the shit that Metro did that Thursday and I'm damn sure I wasn't home ridiculously late twice a week due to "signal faults". I remember a couple of times where they cancelled services on the way home, but we were always well informed and updated whenever they had news to report. They were nice, but it was a frequent issue that seemingly still hasn't been addressed to this day.

I can wear 5 minute delays now and then or if there has been a serious accident I can completely understand the line being closed etc, I am not a man without reason. But the sheer unprofessionalism and lack of understanding these people have for what is required to run an efficient and consistent service is deplorable.

I mean, FFS they drove one of their trains into a stationary freight today!!! How could you fail on such an epic basis?

By no means do I think Connex were great, I do remember ranting on the old TLC board under my original handle in regards to their shitness. I just get so frustrated when we get so much so right in this city yet **** up on such significant issues like transport/infrastructure and other things that belong in other threads that I will get around to at some point in the near future.

I guess it is my fault though on relying on others.

tl;dr.

(But, guessing the gist of the post, might I suggest cycling?)

I do not have the motivation for this and I detest cyclists. Nothing personal against any cyclists, I just believe that they have too much rights on our roads and should have to pay registration. Every day I see them in the city riding on footpaths, going through red lights etc. I have no sympathy for them when they end up under a couple of tonnes of metal.

That and the fact that I ran over one w***er that swerved infront of me the other day without looking. The douche rode off but I'm left with a scratch on my car. My fault for not chasing him down and beating him within an inch of his life I suppose.

But now I'm straying off topic.

Trams are supposedly "on time" if they are under 5 minutes lates. I hate trams more then Trains as they stop at every blooming light! Never miss a stop because someone isn't getting off and there is never anywhere to sit.

Trains haven't been too bad for me of late but they are still far too congested. I don't see why we can't have trains with no seats? Just have 5 rows of bars on the cieling with handle bars for people standing in the middle. The amount of times I've jumped on a train and there are people who can easily stand up the whole travelling time yet take up 2/3 seats with bags and shit alike. I have had a seat once thi year when coming home from the Melbourne CBD....

And then there are people reading the Age on the train! Jesus I just want to smack almost everyone I see on a train

- People with music too loud
- People talking too loud
- Ugly Lesbians feeling the need to show off their sexuality
- Smelly men of one particular race
- Crying baby's and their druggy mums
- Kids and their massive bags in massive groups
- Hot girls and their big boobs expecting me not too look!
