I'm sorry Santos, but I know the answer to this question (which has baffled humanity for decades), and here it is.

Les Murray's real name is Lazlo Urgay, he was originally a Hungarian, but when he emigrated to Austraila (to become the doyen of soccer commentators and an SBS legend) he Anglicized his name to the moniker we know (and love) today.

I know I wasn't meant to give you a real answer ( going against the spirit of this thread), but I believe that we needed closure on this topic.
