Chilling photo

The question is though was Chapman a lone psychopath? I tend to think he was just a fruitcake but there are those who think the CIA programmed him to kill Lennon.
The only fruitcakes are those who believe that the CIA could "program" someone to do anything even now, let alone could do that back then, and DID do it to kill a musician.

well they entirely ****ed up the normal way when they decided to off Kenedy. so they needed to do something drastic to get rid of Lennon

Lennon wasn't just an ordinary musician though, he was a political figure as well. The CIA apparently kept a file on him and considered him a threat to the United States due to his anti-establishment, anti-war views.

Whether or not the CIA had a role in his murder is debatable but with the speculation about their involvement in the JFK assassination you couldn't rule it out.

the FBI studied The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" for 2 years to try and find alleged profanity (and still managed to miss it). government agencies don't always spend their time doing things of great importance

Agreed and while I wouldn't rule out anything to do with the CIA I still think it's likely Chapman was just a nutter. If it came out the CIA were responsible it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

There are even those who think Chapman didn't actually do it.

There are people who believe that Xenu, the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy", 75 million years ago, brought billions of his people to Earth in a DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs.

They're called nutters. Just like conspiracy theory nuts.

That doesn't mean that anyone should believe that the truth is exactly as it is revealed to us by governments and NGOs of power... It means that it is beyond us on an individual, amateur level to "get to the bottom" of these issues, and to believe otherwise is what makes you a fruitcake.

That said, I don't even believe that there is more to John Lennon's murder than we have been told - There's simply no sane reason to believe in an conspiracy surrounding his death.

Oh you crazy old Thetan you :D

I agree with you though, Chapman murdered the great man for no other reason than what was going on in his head at the time.

It was widely known Reagan had a passionate dislike for "peacenicks". Lennon also marched to help release John Sinclair-

I dont think Nixon/Reagan and his cronies were smart enough tö örganize something they may have pondered, without being found out.

Conspiracy theories make for interesting reading sometimes though.

I'm not sure what to make of Lennon. Was he the arrogant sociopath some (like that movie on ABC1 last Sunday) made him out to be or was he a fevent campaigner for peace and a true genius. The critics wrote off pretty much everything he did solo wise. He was definately messed up by his early life but it seemed he had finally got his shit together and was happy by the time he was shot. We'll never know I guess.

RIP John.

Didn't do himself any favour's/favor's with the 'Bigger than Jesus' comment and Ballad Of John & Yoko.

Still, he has one of the greatest Christmas songs ever.

Watched the tv show last night. Interesting in hearing from the hospital staff, Jack Douglas and the fan with the beard can't remember his name who provided photos of Lennon and his killer and his insights of the last few days. And that song, Starting Over, is one of the greatest songs, sends a shiver down my spine, that old rock and roll vocal, still can't believe this happened to John.

Lennon later backtracked a bit and regretted the comment made 'off the cuff'.

He realized Jesus would have been cool about it but the religious right hijacker's came out swinging.
