The only fruitcakes are those who believe that the CIA could "program" someone to do anything even now, let alone could do that back then, and DID do it to kill a musician.Chilling photo
The question is though was Chapman a lone psychopath? I tend to think he was just a fruitcake but there are those who think the CIA programmed him to kill Lennon.

Lennon wasn't just an ordinary musician though, he was a political figure as well. The CIA apparently kept a file on him and considered him a threat to the United States due to his anti-establishment, anti-war views.
Whether or not the CIA had a role in his murder is debatable but with the speculation about their involvement in the JFK assassination you couldn't rule it out.

There are people who believe that Xenu, the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy", 75 million years ago, brought billions of his people to Earth in a DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs.
They're called nutters. Just like conspiracy theory nuts.
That doesn't mean that anyone should believe that the truth is exactly as it is revealed to us by governments and NGOs of power... It means that it is beyond us on an individual, amateur level to "get to the bottom" of these issues, and to believe otherwise is what makes you a fruitcake.
That said, I don't even believe that there is more to John Lennon's murder than we have been told - There's simply no sane reason to believe in an conspiracy surrounding his death.

It was widely known Reagan had a passionate dislike for "peacenicks". Lennon also marched to help release John Sinclair-Lennon wasn't just an ordinary musician though, he was a political figure as well. Didn't do himself any favour's/favor's with the 'Bigger than Jesus' comment and Ballad Of John & Yoko.
Lennon later backtracked a bit and regretted the comment made 'off the cuff'.Didn't do himself any favour's/favor's with the 'Bigger than Jesus' comment and Ballad Of John & Yoko.
Still, he has one of the greatest Christmas songs ever.
