I guess everyone is just like your dad.My Dad was in the army in WW2, in New Guinea, plus in the Merchant Marine for some time, he had plenty of tats, some quite large on his chest & back, plus some on his arms.
Later in life he always regretted them, always wanted them removed, but they can't be rubbed out, can they!

tattoos can be removed using laser surgery
they would be those dodgy Defence Forces tat. Similar to Prison ones. No wonder he wants them off him.
No comment on your dad, but I would always hope that the things I do now, whether they're smart or stupid, are things that I wouldn't ever regret.
