Deep Web

Knowing what you know now, would you explore the deep web, rather than just read about it?

I'm conflicted, that's for sure. Intrigue and wariness at the same time. Wouldn't want to stumble on something explictly illegal by mistake but on the other hand there seems to be a wealth of knowledge present that is simply not available elsewhere? I'm interested as to the nature of what kinds of things are present, I mean I've been given an overview but aside from that no real specifications.

Yeah the general consensus seems to be 'don't go on there if you don't know what you're doing or else you'll get busted by the feds and ass-r*ped in prison'.

Times like these I wish I wasn't such a n00b at computers.

Thoughts on the Ross Ulbricht case? Find it quite fascinating myself, life in prison seems harsh but then again apparently hired 6 hit men. Still a genius
Very interesting case. Have you seen the Alex Winter Doco called "Deep Web" based on the DPR and his case?

Ulbricht was never charged with an attempted murder/hire hit men charge, (not sure on the exact charge) it was dropped
He was found guilty on;

Count One: Distributing OR aiding and abetting the distribution of narcotics.
Count Two: The distribution of controlled substances intentionally accomplished by means of the Internet.
Count Three: Conspiracy with others to violate narcotics laws.
Count Four: Engagement in a continuing criminal enterprise (kingpin charge)
Count Five: Conspiring with others to commit OR aid and abet computer hacking
Count Six: Conspiring with others to traffic in fraudulent identification documents.
Count Seven: Conspiring to commit money laundering.

Recieved the maximum for each count, this however is just the start. The alleged corruption of 2 federal agents from Baltimore for allegedly stealing and extorting funds from Silk Road, among other crimes. One of these men, DEA agent Carl Mark Force, was the lead undercover agent in the case, at the core of the investigation.

As of yesterday one of the agents has plead guilty to stealing $820,000 and will be charged with
money-laundering and obstruction charges.

And on it goes.

No haven't seen it, was surprised at the lack of docos on this case when I tried to find one. Is it just the interview with him? or is it not on youtube?

That's what has kept me from venturing into it, what I could stumble upon without meaning to stumble on it.
But at the same time I'm intrigued because there is apparently a lot of things, knowledge, ebooks, documentaries, that sort of thing, that as you said isn't available on the regular internet or anywhere else.
The other thing that keeps me from touching the deepweb, is that apparently the connections to it aren't safe as they bounce between other users, with the end user being able to view what you are doing(or worse)if they know what they are doing.

Would be nice if people who went on to deepweb would download the interesting books and documentaries and what not(provided they aren't illegal of course), and uploaded them onto the regular internet for the rest of us.

In some ways it isn't much different to the clear net in that access to a fair number of things isn't possible without a referral, as well as the fact that by its nature it is for the most part unindexed so unless you happen to know someone with exiting knowledge of the sites you're after, as well as the ability to keep up to date with URL changes, you'll hit a brick wall while spelunking before long.

Also plenty of bc scams, like pretty much all of the visible 'no man, no problem' services. As well as lots of goofy conspiracy sites that are no more credible than the clear net, just because they're on the deep web.

I will say though that one of the more darker aspects are the red room sites. Not much chance of stumbling upon one, but far out.

Whats a red room site? Your comment seems to imply you've been on them or know what they are..?

This second one is fascinating. The beginning gives details on how to connect to the deep web securely. Then there is a story that is truly incredible, whether its true or not is up for debate. Very interesting though.

I've been on the deep web, or the dark web as some call it. Not for illegal purposes might i add but for the encrypted routing via the tor network. It is pretty scary although i avoid those deep sites. But the deep web as i see it is no different from human society. On the internet you're going to have your underground groups and some scummy people much like in the real world. Still scary but intriguing stuff

That some mighty fine fiction.

Does anyone know why deep dot web got seized and closed by the FBI? To my knowledge that was nothing more than a news site and wasn't responsible for any illegal activity? It's sadly seeming likely that the we will eventually be at a stage that even having a TOR browser is a reason to be arrested.

From one of the many articles on it......
The FBI have arrested several people suspected of involvement in running Deep Dot Web, a website for facilitating access to dark web sites and marketplaces.

Two suspects were arrested in Tel Aviv and Ashdod, according to Israel’s Tel Aviv Police, which confirmed the arrests in a statement earlier in the day. Local media first reported the arrests.

Arrests were also made in France, Germany and the Netherlands. A source familiar with the operation said a site administrator was arrested in Brazil.

Deep Dot Web is said to have made millions of dollars in commission by offering referral links to dark web marketplaces, accessible only at .onion domains over the Tor Network. Tor bounces internet traffic through a series of random relay servers dotted across the world, making it near-impossible to trace the user.

It be way over the top but some countries it might happen or already happened
