In theory Melbourne should get better over the next few years with all their early picks, but let's face it, Melbourne are terrible at developing young players.

Any young players that they have, where already good when they got to the club and haven't really got any better since. Sylvia, Jones, Bate and company are at the exact same level as when they arrived. Frawley and Grimes are probably two of the exceptions.

Carlton are the last team to criticise any player for lack of leadership qualities. Two years ago, nobody within the was good enough to captain Carlton, so they recruited an outsider and made him captain. Adding to that, when Carlton were bottoming out, who did they pick as captain? You just keep dreaming about your tin rattling rabble that will be lucky to be around in 5 years time. I doubt you care much though as the slopes of Buller and Falls Creek seem so much more enticing than watching the rabble that is Melbourne trying to be competitive in a league that has gone past them. Not every club can get around the salary cap by putting their best players on their sponsor's payroll. Hopefully Hankook will pay the salaries of our first and second picks in years to come.
Eddie Betts is over-rated and will be found out now there is no Fevola to take the best defender. He'll have his spot taken by Chris Yarran. I didn't mention Jarrod Waite, I think it'll take him a while to get back to his best after a knee op. Much like David Schwarz back in the day.
We can look after ourselves. You just worry about how you're going to go next year with no real targets up forward. Maybe Judd will carry you to a premiership, much like he did at West Coast. Or maybe his and Chooka's injuries won't be able to hold up. Or you could just cheat your way to another premiership. Keep dreaming about your salary-cap breaching club with it's cheating price-fixing major sponsor.
In 5 years time, Scully, Trengove, Ball and Moloney will be shitting all over Judd, Murphy, McLean and Gibbs.
And if Melbourne are so bad, why were Carlton interested in Chris Johnson, who couldn't get a game for us?
