Maybe we don’t have him now?
I look forward to the BF assistant 'TeeKay' helping craft shitfights in future. Or telling me to gagf when asked to show Clayton Oliver highlights

Bit of a mixed bag, a lot of players up and down the whole game.

  • Trac got the ball but butchered it, must've been a world record for kicks smothered by one player
  • Viney was hard at it, but butchered it
  • Clarry looked like he had some power back, but couldn't hold onto the ball for more than 0.1 seconds

The start was the worst part, Gawny on MMM during the week said that the first quarter back from a by is tough ... I'd guess the SUNS listened to that and absolutely targeted it.

Felt for our young guys up forward once Petty went off - Tholstrup and Jeffo barely got a look the whole day.

Worst, our backline selection was a shambles - I know that Lever needed to be dropped, but we weren't big / strong enough down back the whole day.

I think the only we he'd go is if we have a catastrophic loss. Unfortunately the "comeback" made the loss seem a lot better than it was

Yeah with the fact we also apparently have to do a full payout if we sack him I reckon the only way he goes is a player revolt. He'd probably know this so as long as he keeps on the good side of the players he will be coaching round 1 2026 :(

Dunno how we managed to get ourselves into that situation. I don’t recall he was being chased by other teams at the time that contract was drawn up?

Board would have been worshipping him post 2021 flag. I think when Bartlett was on board there was probably two factions, one that was very pro Goody and one that wasn't sure on him. Pro Goody won the war at board level and we've been stuck with the consequences ever since (Not condoning all the shit from Bartlett in the press attacking Goodys character).

Don't know if the contract is a big of an issue as it seems. It's obviously not ideal but he wouldn't be the first coach to be sacked with a year to go and I doubt he's getting paid significant more than most coaches.

Also I remember something about the soft cap going up at the end of the year?

If the board are on the fence he'll stay but if his position becomes untenable I don't think they'll wait another year just for the hell of it.

There is a bevo vibe with us i feel. A club that was starved of success for so long that when we finally won one we have been way to intimidated and scared to move on our only living premiership coach.

It's like we don't know what to do because the club seems to think well revert back to 2013 instantly and it too afraid to risk change, that Goodwin is the only coach capable in the world

At least that how it feels looking in, regardless i do think as a whole we're an organisation that is firmly scared of major change. The board seems very stacked full of yes men and women now

I’m placing a fair bit of blame on various board members for screwing us up.

The immediate assumption after the flag was that we would get more of them, and we ran head first into some very risky contracts (Oliver being the obvious one, they couldn’t really have predicted that our medical team might suddenly try to kill Petracca).

Some of the pressure to keep winning has also produced ultra conservative recruiting with some delisted top-ups that weren’t wanted elsewhere. We seemed to assume that wins would just happen.

The ego wars that meant we had years of Bartlett launching wild grenades wasn’t needed. If we had paid him something and given him a post flag acknowledgement of his work towards getting us there I reckon it would have saved time, effort and member dollars big time.

Roffee in particular saw dollar signs and assumed we would suddenly get 100,000 members and yelled at people when it didn’t happen.

The biggest problem was the wild statements by the club about coming back and winning a flag in Melbourne. Made the club look like arrogant dickheads, and put way too much pressure on players.

I think Goodwin doesn’t have what it takes to keep reinventing himself to stay with the changes to the game, but he might have had a slightly better run if it hadn’t been made so clear that multiple premierships were a baseline requirement. Right away we stopped playing to win and started playing not to lose.

Even after last year we still seem to be living in a myth that we are finals-bound. We have really ****ed it up.

Good: I enjoyed watching the magician in the centre bounce getting pushed out of the way like a toddler.

Fugly: Watching Christian "Panic" Petracca throw it on the boot a millisecond after gaining possession time after time.

I used to sit in quiet disbelief watching us screw up the easiest of skills and goals, but now I've started to quite enjoy it. Am I broken?

Sadly I think it will take the senior players to revolt for Goodwin to get the boot . Can’t see that happening tbo .
No. Petracca our best chance but he’s probably burnt his boats this year with some Melbourne trough and through type statements. It would be helpful if he spat the dummy again, but he might be reluctant that it would be a bad look.
