Definitive list of decent youth.

I know we are going to pick up some good kids and i wouldnt be surpised if we get some early draft picks in the next season or so to come. As much as Terry says he wants immidate succes realisticly its going to be a long proceess. honeslty im not worried. Im trusting Terry and im sure in 3-5 years we will be a force.

This brings me to think of our current young players. Who are they, how highly do you rate them etc.

Also - which players do we have in the slighly older age group that will still be running around being very good players? Will they then be over the Hill? Couglan, N Brown, K Johnson? etc.

Personally i reckon the above blokes are gun players and we will be happy with them. Couglan should be the man we build around for the next 5 or so years. I hope the other play near there highest level.

Also, as i said at the start we do have a couple good youths. However i still think the major problem is our middle band of players. Players which seem very average and would not get a look at another clubs 22.


Sorry it was abit long winded with a bit of everything lads. I a happy though that we do have some good kids, look to be getting more over the next season or 2. Also our current batch of kids will be joined by our draft picks, and hopfully in 2006 the likes of Morrison and Zantuck will be replaced with another batch of kids. All this would set up a very bright future for us in 4, 5 years time. Hopfully our seinor playrs, Bowden, Brown, Johnson Simmonds can be execelent and Coughlan, our captain and new captain blood will win multiable browlows and prim cups

Jason Akermanis made a very good point on Brisbane's success. He asserted that they have put together 10 - 12 highly talented players with the rest of the team being made up of dedicated 'good ordinary players'.

This is what Geelong set out to do a few years back - and why Bomber Thompson refused to release any of this core of players - as have St. Kilda.

Next year, we will be at the stage where we too will have a large group of youth from which we will be able to generate our 10 - 12 players. This pool contains:

Roach
Jackson
Coughlan
Schulz
Krakouer
Gilmour
Hyde
Hartigan
Newman
Archibald
Raines
Moore
Foley

Plus up to 7 draft selections.

This is 22 players in total.

Another interesting excercise is to sort our list into David Parkin's A, B and C lists where:

A = Elite level player
B = Good ordinary player - senior regular
C = Development / fringe player.

The aim should be to have the 10 - 12 A list players, all peaking at the same time.
