Ive noticed since 2010 Deledio is way way underrated than the other dominant half backs. By looking at his stats he's got 563 disposals at 25.6 a game . The only half back flanker that had more was Scotland (565 disposals) he might be 2nd and 3rd in stats like Efficiency and Inside 50s and Rebound 50s but he has and has made the least clangers 36 at a average of 1.6 a game. I was really frustrated that he didnt make the AA team and 47th in Mike Sheahan's top 50 players but by looking at stats he has a better season than all of them. Soo Underrated or Overrated???

Hes under-rated in what he does off the half back flank.
But he still hasn't reached his potential.

True but probaly better than other HBF's and deserved AA easily ahead of Enright, Davis and Murphy

The real problem is, he's playing the position thats not for him.
A wing or on-ball position is more suited.

I would love to see him start in the forward pocket and swap with Dusty.

This CHB isn't for him, and we need to trade for a big body, backman who can stop a forward.

He should be playing midfield, he's not a kid any more turns 25 next year...we really should be getting more out of him.

good question..he's in between, perhaps with his sublime talent we could ask for more, if he wants to be talked in same tones as goddard and co then rightfully he needs to be impacting the result of games more...maybe thats not fair coz he hasnt got the depth of quality around him that goddard has had...Ill go with a bit underrated by the broarder footy community...but sheesh , talent wise he has it all...and I really hope for Lids sake we begin to deliver as a club

underrated ..... but needs to increase his aggression on the ball a bit to become the complete player. Something I'm confident we will see once the whole side becomes competitive...

I think he is overrated by some and also underrated by others . I think his placing in this years JD was a severe exaggeration of the season he had , then again I struggle to see how Vickery was a better player than JR8 ?
Lids IMO , still doesn't impact games to the level I think he needs to , when the heat is on , whether it be during the early parts of games or in games we are expected to win and attention is given to him.
He has all the tools however IMO isn't able to impact games enough when things aren't going his way .
Only an opinion and appreciate it may be contrary to others !

Travis Johnstone was one of the most highly skilled footballers kicking a ball, but he lacked committment, couldnt be arsed running hard, and thought he could get by on his skills alone and not do anything else.

Dane Swan doesnt have 25% of Johnstone's ball skills, but he is a deserved Brownlow Medallist.

Deledio is closer to Travis Johnstone and a million miles away from Dane Swan

CONFIRMED: It is now officially the post-season.

Marked by the appearance of the annual post-season "Rate Deledio" thread :D

I think he suffers from the 'Mark Waugh' syndrome.

A very good player, but his flashes of genius and the way he makes it all look easy, leaves everyone disappointed he doesn't produce more while ignoring all the results he does produce.

Underrated. One of the most consistent footballers in the AFL. Doesn't have many weaknesses. Held back a bit by the coaching staff forcing him to play as a HB the least 2 years when his best position is midfield as evidenced by his 2008 season and back end of 09. He is a goal kicking midfielder. Very frusted by this actually and have posted about it many times. Still with his versatility he's one of the best HB's in the business.

Unfortunately he won't be rated on the outside of Richmond until we become a good side. Suddenly then all the muppets in the media will rate him as a star when he's been one all along. So predictable. Just watch.

Also this. Definitely a victim of his own consistency. "Media experts" expect him to rack up 25 touches and a week and always be in the top few performers. That's why when the Harry O'Briens and Robert Murphy's produce a level above their normal output for 1 year they stand out more. Even if their year's are still much inferior to Deledio's.

Here's an interesting fact - make of it what you will.

In 152 games, Deledio has been awarded 3 Brownlow votes on one occasion. Not quite the return you'd expect from a No 1 draft pick.

And in how many winning teams has he played on Wallaby? Seing as it incredibly difficult to poll 3 votes in a losing side especially when getting thumped as we have for many of these seasons. Hardly think the brownlow votes would be a great benchmark to use.

I don't think Lids bride looks much older than him, nor is she hard on the eye ?

people expect far to much from some players. he is in the window where players explode which could be a scary thing for the 17 other clubs.

some players dont click into full gear until this age. goddard, hodge, ablett, swan just to name a few. there are of course others like judd, pendles, franklin who just click from the start.

if he goes into the midfield, wing, hff, and we start winning, like others have said his standing within the game will be enhanced 10 fold.

he is probably rated correctly. most people think if moved into the middle he would explode into the player we think he can be, and playing on the hbf like he has been, has been holding him back, but he has been doing the team thing.
