Not his best night last night. Carrying an injury (physical or mental)?

He has been average this year & 13 disposals last night is not good enough for a player approaching 100 games and in his 5th year. He should be leading the midfield group not going missing:confused:.

Commentators last night we spot on the mark in questioning his correct place on the field. Just because he is a no1 pick shouldn't make him an automatic midfielder.

2008 he won a B&F averaged 24 disposals over 22 games.

Where is he at ?????

Was dreadful last night. How a first year kid in Picken can make a man in Deledio his bitch twice in a season is beyond me. Pick up your game Lids.

hopefully he can prove his critics wrong and have a good game under a new coach this week.

i wouldnt say he is playing 'terribly'.
like Agetigers has posted up he has very similar stats to a younger chris judd, very good find!

can i ask whos been tagging him and what kind of stats they are getting?
and why everyone expects him play 30 disposal games or 4 goal games every week
give him a bit of time imo

thanks :)

Look up the definition of "downhill skier" in the dictionary and you will find a picture of him.

Needs a massive kick up the arse.

May sound a bit outlandish, but if GC17 were to offer up a very early pick for him next year, I would jump at it.

Yessum but Judd was winning Brownlows all over the place by this point. Deledio is nowhere near it. THAT'S the important disparity, between dominance and actual influence on the game.

Judd was playing in a flying form WCE side too though
Deledio is playing in a below mid table side

and remember who we're comparing deledio to here..CHRIS JUDD
deledio was injured last night early on which wouldve bruised his performance

why is there that every week theres a thread either saying

"OmGF LiDz 4 NxT CapTInzZ!"
or
"Deledio is a worthless sack of shit, send him to fremantle"

give him a break, he has been playing some good footy, he had an off game picken got the better of him, same with cotchin he wasent too flash either....

dw next week they will both dominate :thumbsu:

IMO the coaches concided the defeat of Deledio early. He spent no time in the midfield and was moved from the foward and back pockets through the game.

Surely he should at least be put into the middle to start off the match and then moved either foward or back if he's struggerling?

Either that or the coaches are the unconfidant in his tag breaking abilties

IMO just doesn't work hard enough to impose himself on the game.

1st class skills and reads the play well but lacks desire to take the game by the scruff.

If next year he doesn't "OWN" our midfield then he will be right in the mix for GC trade for picks.

Lids is going OK... he was BOG last week FFS & who knows, Picken may be the next great 'glove' player of the comp!

Agree that we shuffle him around far too much. I don't recall him being in at the centre bounce hardly at all last night.

IMO, Lids should play in the middle or in the forward pocket... pretty much nowhere else.

Lol some people, you want to trade away a PROVEN player thats still developing for someone who could be anything ie: JON

Yep your spot on wasnt in the centre last night, had Tuck, Cogs and jackson most of the time. IMO it should be Cotchin, Lids Jackson foley

Tuck's the clearance king though, we'd be nowhere without him in the guts.

One of my favourite players BUT
Last night especially in the third quarter he showed no respect for this opponent or his teamates.
He was very selfish and thought he was too good for Picken and refused to man him up.

I was at the game and me and a friend were disgusted with his application in defence constantly playing 15 meters away from Picken and didnt want to get near the contest.

After Picken kicked his first goal BRad Johonson went up to Lids and gave him an earful. I thought this was great but I also thought surely this would have to fire the young man up and exert some prescence.

How wrong I was, Lids continued to play off Picken and sure enough Brad Johnson next kick hit Picken on the chest 30 meters from goal and Lids was no where to be seen. Picken kicked the goal and Johnson and 3 others went to Delediio and got in his face and let him know.

I admit Deledio was played out of position all night and Picken took him to the Dogs forward pocket. We had a slight lead at half time Lids should of been in the centre or forward.

HOWEVER you play your best no matter what role or spot you are asked to play as its a team game and his simply dropped the head playing in defence.
Again I will state that I am a big fan of Deledio but what he did last night to his teamates was unexcusable. He should be flogged on the track this week and given a week in the two's. He let his mates, himself and supporters down last night.
We are not talking about McMuffen or Petrified we are talking about a player that the Richmond people look to lead us out of this gloom.

A statement needs to be made and it should be just like Ross Lyon made the statement last year with Dalsanto.
People on this board will bag me regarding dropping him but as far as I am concern if we want to change the culture of this footy club it starts now.
I have a feeling that the Richmond culture of selfishness is now making its way to Lids as thats how he played last night - no two ways about it.
Lets not nake excuses or hide from the truth, it was out there last night for everybody to see. Tripple M gave the worst on ground votes in the following order, Jordan 1 vote, Petrified 2 votes and Lids 3 votes.
Enough said....

He needs to stay either in the midfield, along the half forward line or somewhere inbetween. Moving him around does nothing for him, and putting him on half back at the expense of actual half back players is baffling.

If you leave him in one spot it will be up to him to break the tag, instead of relying on the coach to move it and make it easier for him - he needs to grit his teeth, and take the game on. If he gets the ball from a center clearance with any type of space in front of him, he will get it into 50 or kick the goal himself, and any tagger would be hard pressed to stop him with the pace - especially if somebody on the team laid a shepherd for once.

If he doesn't take responsibility and expects the coach to make it easier for him, he will never become a good player.

Yeah I agree. I had not as real an issue with McMahon or Petts games though. They're just always the first the be blamed.

He hasn't been given the chance to even break the tag so how will he ever learn if he keeps getting shifted all over the place. That is not the way to learn.

I wouldn't be too critical on Deledio - he was beaten by a very good footballer last night.

A question to you all though. Why do Richmond give up so easily? This was the 2nd game against us in very recent history where you have given up after half time. Pathetic.

Spot on the money. Last night the coach kept moving him around the ground to try and get him going. HE has to do it himself.

On current form at the end of 09 Tambling will be the better player because he has had to work hard to become a good(better) player.

all fair comments. He was disgraceful last night and got smashed!!

It wasn't lack of effort imo, nearly all of his 12 possies were contested, he just looks lost against picken who has the speed to go with him for the most part. great terrier like player :thumbsu:

Its a mental thing and not that he doesnt work hard enough imho, last season he dealt with taggers with ease, this season he just seems like he cant get away...How can a player not be able to deal with taggers after doing it the year before? is this bc the team is performing so poorly? support from teamates helps a bit. Is he guilty of not working hard enough over preseason and now doesnt have the fitness?

Im stumped, but i reiterate he never had a problem last season, why now?

Appears to be more concerned about his hairstyle and impressing the chicks in the crowd. I'd go in so far as to say richard tambling has overtaken him this year. Richie might make a few mistakes but right now he's putting his head over the ball, winning his own ball and taking some risks. His run from the backline this year has been excellent.

Lids needs a real rocket. Cooney and hodge are showing how a no1 pick needs to play.
