DELISTED PLAYERS and TRADE BAIT

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I haven't read the entire thread, so this may have already been covered, but what would you guys want for Meeson?

Would Jordan Russell be enough, remembering that they were both first round selections in the '04 draft, and neither of them have set the world on fire, and both players get to go home to their native states.

Would be a win/win for both players, and both clubs come out of it with a decent prospect in the future.

russell for meesen would be a win/win trade if it was to happen. I hope it happens.

You are kidding urself if you think you should keep Meesen, I don't barrack for the crows but am a Norwood fan and he struggles at SANFL level, he's not fast enough, doesn't win ruck taps and his disposal is average. With the difference between SANFL and AFL widening I would be using Meesen as trade bait straight away, and there are a few Vic teams looking to trade quite good draft picks for him, also (and this ashames me to say) I have heard rumors of Carlton considering trading one of their top10 picks for him.
DONE! Where do we sign?!

Meesen for Varcoe would also appeal. Geelong need a replacement for King (despite the form of Ottens & Blake), Meesen is a Geelong boy, Varcoe is the pacy forward we could be looking for.

I have a hunch that we would end up with Didak after the trade week and Meesen would be part of that deal.

Nothing concrete just a hunch! :)

I've heard rumours from a Collingwood supporter that Didak may be interested in a trade to an SA side. There is also a thread on the Collingwood board. If we were able to pick him up it would be fantastic IMO. If we could get away with doing a fair deal I would be very happy.

What would people give for Didak?

Campbell - dont recon he is any use to us just focus on kids in his department
Pfeiffer - cant hack it at AFL level (Obst last year was only given 12 months)
Perrie - a soldier but has done all he can & time to move on
Jericho - probably traded for draft pick
Ricciuto - Retired

that frees up 5 spots 3 in the draft & the other 2 for trades or psd

He's 23 and looked decent in his ONLY game. The 'kids' comment doesn't hold much weight when you suggest the line after, to delist a first round pick with a great deal of talent.

Pfeiffer - cant hack it at AFL level (Obst last year was only given 12 months)

He hasn't been tried at AFL level.

Ricciuto - Retired

Agree on these

nah I meant he cant cope with the demands, he was sent back to train with the redlegs for a while early this season or maybe last season, because of poor form on the track, plus hes had a couple of questionable nights out, one broken jaw from an 'unprevoked' attack at a pub & then the suspension for breaking curfew.

I think he missed a few team meetings - That was the major issue for mine.

Some idiot king hit him in a club - Sure he might have gobbed off (I presume in retaliation), but there's not a lot you can do when some ******** comes up behind and belts you.

The he broke a silly curfew by 20 minutes, and by all reports dobbed himself in.

This is one of our hardest years for delists as we don't have any Matthew Smith's or Alan Obst's that stand out like the proverbials.

If we assume that Taylor Walker is elevated onto the main list along with McIntyre (not sure about the latter) and we are going to have 4 draft selctions, then we have to have 6 retirements, delistments or players traded for picks to make that happen.

Roo ( already retired)
Perrie (retired)

are 2 certainties IMO.

That means that 4 more spots have to be created.

Meesen, McGregor and Jericho are the likely trade suspects with Mattner some chance.

My target would be to get Bullies #5 with whatever combination of these players is necessary to get it as we have what they need and we need #5 to be able to draft a quality mid-fielder with pace.

Straight delists are far more difficult.

Hinge, Campbell maybe but they don't necessarily deserve it.

how does meesen + pick number 10 sound for didak?

or do we have to include mattner in that as well

Yeah i dont recon they'd except either, they'd be asking for someone along the lines of Reily or thompson... port would be a better chance a snaring him as hes a bogan port fan from pooraka, for salopek & a first rounder

Can I ask why we want Didak that badly? Not worth trading our Number 10 pick espiecially with this years draft prospects

Is exactly what the Crows need and want. Would be brilliant if we could somehow get him.

No, who needs a hard at it in and under ballwinner who is only 22:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Pfeiffer - cant hack it at AFL level (Obst last year was only given 12 months)

And how many AFL games did it take you to formulate this spark of genius????

Seriously why delist two kids who could be great, one who was a first round pick, while leaving Massie, Doughty, Shirley, etc, etc, etc on our list

Port would have rocks in their head to go with that trade. I'm dont even think they would give up Salopek in a straight swap, never mind the first rounder.

But at the cost of our first draft pick, or a player like Reilly or Knights?

No thanks - especially when you take his off field behaviour into account.

I've said it before, if we're going to go for a player of questionable character, let's go for Fevola.
Except that Fevola is not going anywhere. Ratten wants him at Carlton and Fev wants to be at Carlton. Fev is off the market.

I agree with Macca23's assessment regarding the numbers.

ie.. McIntyre & Walker to be upgraded. 4 Draft picks. 6 Delistings/Trades required.

Roo is already retired, so that's one.
Perrie will either retire or be delisted. That's two.

I would not be surprised to see all of the following traded:
Meesen - Seemingly wants out due to lack of opportunities, can't say that I blame him.
McGregor - Also wants out for lack of opportunities.
Mattner - Has had his confidence destroyed by Neil Craig, needs out for the sake of his career.
Jericho - If we can get an empty packet of chips for him I'd be happy. Otherwise, delist.

There is significant speculation that we may end up getting one (or more) players in return as part of these trade machinations - players frequently mentioned include Alan Didak, Jordan Russell, Jay Shultz (no thanks), Jordan McMahon. That would mean an extra player (#7) also having to depart.

If we're serious about 2008 being a development year, then it is time to make some harsh decisions regarding our older "backbone" players. That may mean that time is up for several of the following:
  • Michael Doughty (I'd have him as our 3rd delisting, behind Roo & Perrie).
  • Matthew Bode (2007 was one year too many to be MIA through injury)
  • Kris Massie
  • Jason Torney

The latter two have done nothing wrong and don't deserve to be delisted, but probably need to be moved on in the name of list development.

Rhett Biglands would have made my list as well, with the youngsters becoming more and more established. However, he still has a year left on his contract and I can't see the Crows wanting to have to pay that out and include it in their salary cap.
